I remember a documentary about Back to the Future saying they had a hard time finding a studio to make it. Disney saying it was way too raunchy, and all the other studios saying it wasn't raunchy enough. Hot Tube Time Machine is what I think you would get if the other studios had gotten their way...

The timing is interesting, albeit in a tragic way: Lizzy Caplan (April) dated Matthew Perry from 2006 until 2012. John Cusack (who was Gordie's deceased older brother in Stand By Me) joined the cast based purely on the title. Clark Duke reportedly came up with the idea of having Lou be Jacob's father. Crispin Glover (the dad from Back to the Future) was originally supposed to scream when the accident happens, but he convinced director Steve Pink that it would make more sense that he would be in shock and couldn't say anything. Sebastian Stan's character Blaine claims to be fighting Communists. Interestingly, Stan himself was born in Romania when it was still under Communist rule. This was the last film that MGM and United Artists distributed together. British actor Steve Coogan was originally supposed to play Chevy Chase's character, but he declined the role.

They end scene with Motely Lue is a tribute to Motely Crue. Lou's introduction starts with it playing in his Trans Am and at the end. It is a remake of their actual MTV music video. So, if you had seen the original "Home Sweet Home" video, it would be a lot cooler that they edited Lou into the lead singer part seamlessly.

There WERE cellphones in the 801 First one was 1983 and it was connected to a briefcase sized transmitter. They got smaller faster, but they were all enormous compared to current phones.

The cell phones of the 90s actually looked like cell phones... I got my first one in 1997 and was one of the first people I knew who had one, but it would only take a few years for them to become something almost everybody had. The few that existed in the 80s were either the gigantic bricks like that one guy was holding that look like satellite phones or something, or they were corded to a suitcase that doubled as a giant battery, or they were in some rich person's car. If you had a cell phone in the 80s you were either some corporate Wall Street investor douche bag (probably what the skier here was supposed to represent), a drug dealer, a doctor, a head of state, or Zach Morris. Remember in Scream (1996) when Syndey's boyfriend dropped a cell phone, it was considered suspicious and strange. But... they did exist. Just weren't common until c.1998-2000, and by the late 2000s they were ubiquitous.

11:21 According to a quick Google search, the Motorola Dynatac 8000X (aka "The Brick.") was the first internationally massproduced cellphone in 1985. Although the first cellphone was developed in 1980/1981 in Sweden. Cellphones existed, but they were extremely expensive and certainly not a common man item, like today..

John Cusack as "Adam", was in Stand By Me, of course he was younger then and, he played "Denny" the older brother of main character. Rob Corddry or "Lou" had small role in Old School as "Warren" one of the pledges. dont remember him speaking. but he is included in the scene with the cinderblocks for sure. Clark Duke as "Jacob" was very very small role in "Superbad", he was at that party where they tried to steal alcohol from and it got busted by the police and McLovin. he might of had a spoken line, but i dont remember it. he is first person the two cops talk to when they enter the house. Sebastian Stan, as "Blaine" the ski-patrol kid who keeps beating up Lou, you might remember from Captain America, as "Bucky Barnes", this was filmed before that so hes just a few years younger i think.

You're awesome and I love your laugh and sense of humor. I liked this movie a LOT more than I thought I would. There's just something about it I can relate to. I'd probably be Lou and also want to stay there in the 80's since today's society just isn't for me. I miss payphones, writing letters by hand and sending them to loved ones across the country with an envelope and stamps, and no existence, whatsoever of the dreaded social media and even more dreaded cell phones. The way people have their heads down buried in their cell phones 24/7 is absolutely pathetic. I feel sorry for them. It's probably been mentioned already, but "Nick Webber" was played by Craig Robinson who was a long-time character on The Office. But if you never watched the series, then you certainly wouldn't have recognized him.
