Wow. I remember this as the best thing of the weekend, and I'm not even a "fan" of Airplane etc They blew everyone off stage and that includes Zeppelin. This has been a myth for me for 40 years, and it didn't disappoint. What were you thinking of, taping Hot Tuna for 1.5 hours, I don't know, but thank you, thank you, thank you.

My highlight of the gig was sharing a joint with Grace Slick under the stage. I can't for the life of me remember who was playing. I think it was Led Zep... The Byrds were amazing. The weather was wind and rain but they played for the festival goers and they were brilliant.

Fuck me, Johnny Winter, Steppenwolf, Canned Heat, Pink Floyd, Hot Tuna, Santana, Country Joe, Byrds, Zappa, Zeppelin and the Airplane... Plus acid everywhere, what a time to be alive!

I was there, amazing line up went with a school mate and it was free! well it was for us. Stayed to the end saw Dr John. Hot Tuna were brilliant and of course Led Zep. Crossing the River of Piss flowing out of the portaloos was an experience. Ah Happy Days.

A gem - thanks for opening the Vault and sharing - hope we find more hidden treasures of the sort! There's stuff here I've not heard Hot Tuna perform elsewhere - great! To all those fortunate enough to have experienced these times live and in person - I am a little jealous though happy to be little younger - you know what I mean! Regards!!!

Just having a Hot Tuna session and what a weekend that was - we came over from Penarth in Wales the rain didnt seem to stop for most of saturday and sunday - Airplane were the attraction the Byrds doing a long acoustic set cause no-one wanted to get out on stage - and Dr John as day broke which was just surreal - and for some reason me and a girl from southampton nearly got run over by a fire engine coming to put out a fire in the rain great fun now I look back - good pics too thanks steve!

I was there too, saw the Byrds do a semi acoustic set due to rain , I think Skip Battin stood on a rubber mat while he played bass. Hot Tuna's set was way better than Zep's. Don't think the Airplanes set was that good but I did't care because was THERE!!!

Wot a gem a real rough diamond.... many thanx Steve... a lot of the tunes played here are really rare nuggets in all their distorted glory ... the electric eclectic performance mirrors the concerts weather.. wild... and the comments from those that survived it are gems as well... cheers..

I was there at the time, just in front of the stage, I remember when Jefferson Airplane played a huge Revolution and it started to rain, Grace Slick said "we're sorry, the Airplane can't fly in the rain" and it was over for the band, oh rage and despair...

Optimistically hitched down from up north, didnt get there until about 1 pm Sun, everyone seemed spaced after the Floyd. Led Zep were brilliant. Hot Tuna were too . So knackered fell asleep when Airplane came on but woke up when it started raining and saw Grace looking and sounding great. Tried to hitch back but so many people on road i walked first 40 miles up to Gloucester before I got a lift. Took me 2 and a half days to get back home. Wouldn't have missed it for the world

Best line-up I ever saw, even the Isle of Wight same year which was nearly as good. No bad acts but Johnny Winter, Hot Tuna both mindbending and the Byrds brilliant (acoustic because of rain) stayed to the very end when Dr John played solo to those still left

Yes it rained. Went with some English friends we were staying with in London and we all had a great time, at least what I can remember of it.Have some pictures of the festival and the people I went with. Spent that summer in England and also rode a Triumph motorcycle to Amsterdam. Bike gave out on me in Amsterdam then I took the train it back to the U.K. Stayed awhile longer then flew back to the States on Icelandic Airways. Took the bus from New york to Denver. What a summer!!

I left work on the friday afternoon wearing just jeans and tie-dye teeshirt and carrying a 3/4 length raincoat. I hitch-hiked and arrived in time to sleep. But before sleeping I went to a local shop where I bought some plastic rubbish bags a couple of cans of soda and 2 tins of baked beans and a tin of corned beef. I made a hole in one of the black sacks for my head to pop through and wore a second bag over my legs, like a sleeping bag (in fact those bags were my sleeping bag for the entire weekend). I opened the cans of beans and the corned beef with a penknife - made very jagged sharp edges around the cans - and ate cold beans and corned beef, that was all I had over the weekend. I stayed to the very end, tired, wet and bedraggled. Wouldn't have missed it for the world. I got home sometime Monday night and was at work 7am the next morning. I was at the Isle of Wight and saw the Doors and Hendrix, at Weeley where Led Zep were amazing and a few of the Reading festivals as well as Dylan and Clapton at Blackbushe but Shepton Mallet is the one that stays closest to my heart.

I was so wiped out I only remember standing on a hill a long way back and seeing Led Zeppelin play. They looked like model soldiers. We were all smoking chillums of Durban Poison and I remember the sound came round in a huge circle and landed right where we were so it felt like we were on the stage instead of over a mile away. Amazing weekend entirely. M

A beg your pardon. I meant 43 years ago.Anyway,it's taking me all this time to enjoy again the greatest performance I´ve kept ringing in my memory as one and only from the era.Had even been at Hendrix´s Albert Hall, but even if it went pretty wild at the smashing of the guitar. The sheer but constant madness among such crazy freakish invasion of naked people dancing with such electryfing Airplane Tuna mind piercing intensity had to be experience to believe it.It all ended like, bar none. Thanks you

I was there for the weekend, and took along a Grundig cassette recorder, but most of the recordings suffered from wind noise. My favourite set of the weekend has to be Pink Floyd's. We left just as The Byrds came on. What a weekend but It overran a bit didn't it.

Near 23 years ago I was a 20 years old and not far from the front stage awaiting.A big bang was about to happen. If the AIRPLANE were the main attraction, during their performance due to the rain and as Grace said '...no one wanted to be electrocuted...'.They had to interrupt twice which was kind of a bummer.Though it was announced Hot Tuna would be on later, already dark and one of the outer mindblowing sets ever to sound as intensively volcanic on earth ever again.Set anyone one stage naked

Hot Tuna, all dirty and distorted. Just the way I like 'em! I love HT, but that extended "Baby What You Want..." exemplifies their tendency toward excess, and intermittent lapses of taste. It's a perfect soundtrack for a bad acid trip. There's a 2nd guitarist playing, who's that - Nick Buck, perhaps? And the British announcer at 8:45 - who's that? Marty Balin on "Up or Down" and "Emergency". "Star Trak" takes me back - my high school band covered that one.
