Hot Water Cornbread Recipe

1 cup of self rising cornmeal
• 1 teaspoon of salt
• 1 cup of boiling water
In a bowl, whisk salt and cornmeal together until well combined.
Add boiling water and mix until well incorporated.
Make cornbread patties and fry in cast iron skillet over medium high until golden brown.

My father in law in North Carolina made thin crispy cornbread in oil we fried fish in. Yum! Mixed to pancake batter consistency. Poured it into the oil made thin like a pancake. Flip once, with fried catfish....stuff of dreams. Thanks

Girl in team fry cornbread all day. My mom 94 years old and she use white meal also. I grew up on this. Mustard greens and hotwater cornbread is the best ❤❤❤

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS MY GRANDMA IS IN HEAVEN NOW. She used to make this all the time and I never knew how to make it. The thin ones with fried fish and greens. I know how to make the fish a greens but not the fried corn bread. Many blessings and have a blessed Thanksgiving.

I grew up with what we called cornbread pancakes but fried in not in that much oil. Like half of that amount of oil. It was the consistency of pancake batter and fried. And we ate that almost every day with our meals. They looked like pancakes and we would slather them in butter and they were so good.

No, it has to be cornmeal with nothing added except salt. It may be a pinch of sugar with hot water that’s it.

let me add to ur country taste buds. Along With salt I add 1/2 tablespoon of onion powder, 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper. But for the ultimate rush, I fry mine in BUTTER mixed with Olive oil, (about half n half.) when the Greens are gone.....I'm still munchin on my Cornbread!

Just made these following your instructions and that’s most definitely too much salt for this small batch. They came out VERY salty. I’ll use much less next time.
