I loved listening to your stories especially the one about the window screens. Matt used his screen to go to the creek to pan for gold. Katy took her screen out so that she could throw stuff out and then shoot. When Matt said that she must take after your side of the family and you responded, I don't remember sifting for gold with any screens - I laughed out loud. You're a beautiful couple.

I'm so envious of your peaches. Grew up next to a peach orchard and the gentleman farmer would leave a small basket of peaches early in the morning during the season for my breakfast. He also taught me to drive on his Farm All tractor and allowed me to roam free on his wooded acreage. He was very kind to a child that wasn't his responsibility. Now Mr. Tenny is part of my best memories.

That’s great you got so many beans. We’ve always raised Rattlesnake pole beans, even my grandparents. We love them. I don’t know why they’re called that, either. That peach cake sounds great! My favorite ice cream is peach. My Mama said they used to rehydrate dried apricots, lay them over the bottom of a pie crust, then pour egg custard pie filling over that and bake it. I think that would be good with peaches, too.

Hi! I just harvested a bunch of carrots I had planted in a grow bag on my back deck! I have a ton of yellow cherry tomatoes and I've spotted a Cherokee purple growing, I've had about half dozen of Cucumbers so far, potatoes will be ready to harvest in a week or so, strawberries are still producing, 2 little sugar baby water melons are on the vine...not bad for planting in bags on a deck 😊 we were under heat advisories 28th and 29th 97 degrees on thermometer however with humidity feel of 106-110😢 back in the 80s now. Still praying for granny❤

Matt mentioned quail. When I was a kid grandpa's farm was quail central. But, I haven't seen any in years. But a couple of days ago we were sitting on the porch and I heard one call. A few minutes later he landed on our walk. He sat there until my dog saw him and chased him off. I don't know if someone near here is raising them or not. But I hope more come around.

My dad put in an attic fan in our house also when I was a teenager. I can relate to the sound of it and the suction of it. We opened a window at one end of the house, and at the other end of the house that would draw from both ends. I don’t know that it ever helped, lol. He finally had central heat and air put in a few years after👏🏻👏🏻😃

Outhere in the foothills of Appalachia my favorite time of the year is fall. It cools off and the colors start to explode before the country goes to bed for the winter. I'd never had a favorite season until I moved here. It's just gorgeous. We have two huge flowering Bartlett pear trees that are the last to lose their leaves and they are the most brilliant red, they scream color!!

Hello matt and Tipper, looks like the Lord blessed y'all with a good harvest. Even though some vegetables dont do good as others, at times. My experience with gardening its not always 100% productive. I think the rattlesnake bean are my favorite they do seem to be bug resistant, yeah im done with marigolds too. They didn't deter bugs on my vegetables either. I just harvested all my summer crop a few weeks ago. Just planted my fall garden.planted more rattlesnakes beans, ms. plnkeye peas. And squash zucchini. I remember growing up without an air conditioner too, slept with the window open. Thank God for the A/C but I think it has made us soft. Always enjoy watching.Stay cool, and Happy gardening God bless.😅

I feel you're pain with saying anything... Your more south than I am in New England and my tomatoes do not want to become ripe with this heat and humidity 😫 I love the sunflowers! Those are huge!!! I grew up in Alabama and didn’t have air conditioning until I was 12 years old. We got a window unit and that first summer me, my sister and brother slept on pallets on the floor. We thought it was amazing. Before that it was screened windows and doors and big metal Electrolux fans at the foot of the bed. Our car had no A/C and we drove with the windows down, hanging our heads out the windows like dogs! Good memories when we were all a little tougher and adaptive than folks are now. Prayers for your sweet mama.

Hey y’all, listening to you talk about the grouse & the quail made me think of when I was young in Florida, we had so many quail. Then they started to disappear. The University of Florida did a study & found that when the fire ants started invading Florida the quail began to disappear. They nest on the ground & the ants would attack the babies & it would kill them. I remember they use to fly planes over our neighborhood & drop these pellets that was supposed to kill fire ants. Well all it did was make them more resistant. They are such a nuisance. I’ve never seen fire ants up here, but wonder if maybe something like that caused the quail to slowly disappear. I miss the sound of a Bob white. 😊❤😊🙏 oh prayers for Granny. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

You & Matt are too cute! I feel like I'm sitting rt there in your shaded but hot yard enjoying a casual visit, maybe w/ a coconut popsickle. Here in Austin, TX, we've some serious heat going on too. 100° w/ nearly 40% humidity at 6:40pm Central time. Didn't dare step outside today. I enjoy your videos and happy to see your garden coming along so well! Have a wonderful wk and show us what you'll be doing w/ the peaches. ☀️🌱🍑🫛🥒🫑🌶🍅🍆🌽

We didn't have ac when I was growing up either, but the heat didn't seam so bad then. Looking at your green beans makes me want a pot of beans with some new potatoes cooked in them. our weather has been strange this year also. June was really wet and cool. Sending prayers for Granny. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden with us.

Love watching your videos before I go to bed, so relaxing and I learn new things. Loved the part with the bandana! Matt reminds me of my Daddy and you remind me of my Mama so it’s even more special spending time with y’all. My Mama agrees 😁

Love seeing your beautiful garden. My mom used to call my dad's garden his "truck patch"! He liked to plant enough for the deer and rabbits too he said! My husband and I click our Popsicles together too now!😂 except the ones here are skinny compared to yours!

I did just have the thought that you're very near to the only part of the US that has naturally occurring venus fly traps. I suspect if you planted some you would have to tend to yours a bit more than nature might, but they would cut down on _some_ amount of insects if you laid them out strategically. They're also just fascinating plants.

I am in agreement with Matt on the pepper jelly. I got the recipe from your blog several, years ago. I am always too impatient to wait until the peppers ripen into different colors, so only make green pepper jelly. I got foundered on jelly growing up, but the pepper jelly has such a unique flavor. Great with cream cheese and crackers. I must try those rattlesnake beans. Your enthusiasm is catching.

My mom grew up in a big family and they had an attic fan that was a kind they put in a window. Huge metal looking thing. It would cool off every room in the house except for the room the fan was in. They put it in my moms room and she would bring that up to her siblings for the rest of her life 😁.

I remember those days without air conditioning! My parents didn't get air conditioning until after I moved away from home. They had one of those big attic fans, too and to me it sounded like an airplane taking off! I don't know how we stood it now after I've had air conditioning for so long. I guess we were just used to it. I love Matt's stories about his childhood, they're hilarious! I bet they weren't funny to his Momma and Daddy at the time! Praying for Granny. 😆

I live in Oklahoma and grew up here. I am 58, but have never lived without A/C. It’s so hot here, I can’t imagine not having it. I’m definitely soft. I have never even lived without a dishwasher. I watch The Millennial Gardener. He is based in South Carolina and is also dealing with the heat wave. The other day he said “Its hotter than a billy goat with a blow torch “. That struck me as so funny. My Mom used to say “hotter than Hades”. It looks like the heat is going to be with us a while.
