Hot Wheels Redline 1968 Original 16 Models - Video No.135 - July 29th, 2016
When it comes to Redline Hot Wheels nothing is more popular than the “Original 16” models for the 1968 model year. Frequently guys will call me up and ask how much a set costs and that is a difficult question to answer. Several years ago I sat down and calculated the most expensive set I could think of and realized that you can easily spend over $30,000 for the best and rarest models to fill out a set of 16 first year cars. On the other hand if you have an eye for value, and access to many places to get Redline Hot Wheels it is possible to put a set together for around $300. Of course you can’t be too picky about condition at that price. This set is the first set I have put together for a customer at his request and I did it for him because it is going to be displayed in a museum. Usually it is just too hard to match up 16 unless you really put your mind to it and put in lot of time at it. This set is valued at around $1,400. Thanks for watching and be sure to give me thumbs up and subscribe too. I thank you so much for your time! www.ToyCarCollector.com --- Music Credit: Dispersion Relation by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (creativecommons.org/licenses/...)

I had 10 of the original 16. Played with them for hours. Held on to them for many years as well as my collection of Corgi and Matchbox cars. I had a son twenty years later and I gave them to him to play with then when he was done with them I sold them all for a nice price

Good job, you made me eyes tear up. I remember going to a store called Fed Co (Target is there now at Rodeo & La Cienega) in LA. As soon as we entered the store I’d say “I’m going to the toys!” I had about 300 cars then. Plus, I remember my silver Boss Hoss coming in the mail while I was at school. @@toycarcollector The only Hot Wheel from my youth that I still have is a Mebeytoys Gran Toros Ferrari that my parents brought back from Italy for me. Over the years I have bought some of the ones I had, I found a Gold Deora in beautiful condition that made me very happy to have again. I have looked at your sales and almost bought a couple, but not yet. Green Hot Heap, Red Mustang, are two that I would love to have again.

I remember in 1968 my family driving almost an hour to San Bernadino to go to Sears on a shopping trip, and my priority was to get a HotWheels car like my friends all had. I didnt know anything about cars so I had no idea which one to get and i stood there brainlocked unable to decide. Finally my parents said we were leaving and i grabbed a Cougar, probably the least cool car of the bunch (which this video doesnt even call out). I think i still have the car somewhere buried in a box of stuff.

I have those and some where made in Hong Kong and some in the USA, you could tell the difference when you compare a USA version and a Hong Kong version, the Hong Kong version had more detailed chassis and bodies. But the USA versions I think brings more value to the table. I have some of both, USA and Hong Kong versions.

There are some nice models being made but they are hard to find. If you check out on KZbin "hot wheels 2024 Case A" and on down through the alphabet you will find that hot wheels come out in "mixes" that change every 3 weeks or something like that. Then once you see what comes in a mix you will know what to look for at the store.

Mr Dave, how do I know if a car was made in 1968 or not? I mean, most models debuted in 68 but they might be 1969 or so. Is there a way to know if they are really 68s? Thanks for sharing your knowledge! I’m a fan!
@toycarcollector
@toycarcollector 6 жыл бұрын
These are 1968 mode year cars so it does not matter when they were made they will always be 68's. There are however some variations to some of the cars that make them earlier produced than others. I can''t tell you exactly what the are as I have not committed that information to memory. For instance the Custom Mustang earlier models have body color tail panels and later ones have flat black tail panels. There are guys out that that keep detailed information about early models and how they changed.
@hotwheelsbob2000
@hotwheelsbob2000 Жыл бұрын
There are first run details on many of the 16, but they were left off in later runs that were still made in 1968. Many of the original 16 were made in 1969 also, and some made until 1971. But there is no real way to tell which year they were built because changes were whenever they were made, not by year. There were also late changes, such as added doorlines, louvered windows on the Mustang, etc.

No one is showing the very first motocross mountain top set with 2 motocross bikes and the stands for them. And yes, there is one because I have it. It's not in any of the collectible books for hot wheels that I have seen.

Do you mean "Mean Mountain"? It is in Hot Wheels The Ultimate Redline Guide volume 2. It is valued at $1200 plus the value of the motorcycles.
