Hot Wheels Amazing Barn Find
I got a call last week from a local fellow who grew up in the 70’s and had loved Hot Wheels from the beginning. He said that he just remembered that his old collection was stored in his parent’s barn. He showed me a few pictures and I could not believe what I saw. I met with him the next day and went over the collection and in some ways it was very sad what time and a bad storage had done to the cars, track, cases and accessories. But all was not lost because in the 6 cases were some surviving jewels. Hey wait till you collect for 50 years and buy and sell for thirty years. I talk every day to collectors who are so picky that they won't even buy a blister pack unless it looks like it came out of a time machine, and even then only if no one has ever touched it.

I was 14 when I started to collect redlines too. Now I have hundreds that are almost mint and several more hundred that aren't mint.

@@toycarcollector I hear you there. There is a guy who has ALL of his carded and loose Hot Wheels from 68-72 or later were sealed after they were PSA graded. He will not take an item or keep it I should say unless it's a 8.5 or higher. If there is the tiniest nick or scuff on the blister or ANYWHERE on the car to him it's crap. But then again he has cars worth more money than I can imagine.

I hear ya... I live in europe... no redlines whatsoever. Best I can get is severly beat up cars that go for silly money; a custom cuda with missing everything (hood, glass, wheels, broken base) will cost me around 15,- IF i can find one.

I think that if you refinish these cars would be a bad idea, leave them as survivor cars. Obviously you are a snooty money making collector and these are beneath your level of collectibility. I wish they would have stayed in the barn another 40 years.

I whole heartedly agree. I couldn’t believe he said he’d have that blue silver shadow re-painted. Just sell them to people who don’t need C9.5 cars. When you restore them you’re ruining them for most collectors and you’re killing the redline business by removing what are great pieces to a lot of us.

Sadly they were so dirty I could not even get them clean. Worst I have ever seen. Rule of thumb is if a collection has been in a wheel case the cars are very used. If the case is a stack tray or flat case then probably nice cars.

Now at 45 years old I've started getting back into die casts. Unfortunately as a kid pretty much all of my toys were handed down to my younger cousin. I didn't mind at the time because it was just the right thing to do. I always separated what I wanted to keep for myself though but you know how moms can be at times and she didn't understand the difference and those ended up being given away as well. Then the last of the last that was packed up even ended up gone after I graduated from high school and left for basic training at Parris Island. There wasn't much value in the die casts but they were my favorite and kept for a reason, most were unopened. The rest of the toys are worth a decent amount now and I could scream about the football cards lol. I'd love to able to have some of it back but more importantly I'd really love to have my mom back with us. Just started collecting again, have about 20 or so unopened for now. Nothing special at all, just some that I like. That's a nice 442. Back in high school I had a 71. Just a supreme though but still ran strong with a mildly built 350 rocket. Usually I ran between 12.75-12.95 qt mile in it. 12.689 was the best I ever got in it and I honestly thought I jumped the light but they said I didn't so I guess I believe them lol.

I use to have a Sizzler car set with track. It was the Silver Streak track set. The cars were silver. Charge them up and let them go.

Well, the barn is not exactly the ideal place to store Hot Wheels, but that was a pretty good find imo. Many of these beg for restoration wich i'm a fan of, as it gives these oldies a new leash of life, unless you _want_ them to look old for some reason. Thanks for showing these, it's always fun to find old Hot Wheels.

Every car in every condition appeals to someone. I like smokin mint condition for my core collection. Thanks for watching. Ps this collection cost $6,500 when I bought it. It is exciting, this collection was full of crap! What I mean by that is I collect as close to mint condition as possible and so many of these were damaged. But this collection also had one of the most valuable cars Hot Wheels ever made, the Purple Olds 442. That car sells in the $10 to $12 thousand dollar range. And the guy said he left the collection in an "out building" but barn sounds better.

wow thats a great collection...some of those cars you would restore i would keep as is in my collection...also...that cutter thing is a glass cutter...you use the wheel to score the glass and then snap it...the one end has a ball that helps break the glass...im sure there is a video you can see how to use it...are any of the beaters for sale? im going to check your site

Wow. All those ones you talk about repainting look awesome. Why would anyone remove the original finish and paint it? Repainting for me is only for those missing 70% or more of paint and need extensive work. Then again, i'm no expert. Only a guy who appreciates the history of what these cars went through.

To get collection you have to put your name out there in places such as Craigslist for Hot Wheels Wanted. Also make sure people know you are a collector. Price wise it is whatever the seller is happy with. You won't get anything cheap like you could before the internet. But you can pay half price most of the time. Then you have to do the work to sell the cars you do not want and that is no small task. I can pay more than most because I have a very strong buyer base who love to spend money and avoid the disappointments you get on eBay.

@@toycarcollector Thanks Dave, I appreciate it. I got lucky with my first collection. I paid around $500. It has some pretty good stuff in it, so I'm told. How about a near mint purple T Bird with a white interior, or a red Indy Eagle with a White interior, or a red enamel heavyweights fire truck. A mint aqua Beach Bomb, and a purple Indy Eagle with a black base were also in it. Now, those are the better cars in the collection. Most of my stuff is blue, green, and aqua, but the cars are in I'd say excellent plus shape. Really enjoy watching your videos and the info Dave, James.

What you are saying is true, they were meant to be played with. But now that most were played with the ones that were not played with have very high value to collectors and those that are played with have much less value. Some kids beat the poo-poo out of their toys and some took care of them and both enjoyed their toys. I have been collecting for over 35 years so naturally I'm want the very best I can find.

Back in the seventies my father would bring me home Hot Wheels like every night . From the Shell gas station. They gave him out for free you know when you get fuel. I had all your cars I destroyed them how's the night I used to throw them on the concrete ground and bust them all up I don't know why I did that maybe I was secretly a Johnny lightning fan😂😂😂😂😂😂🤔🤔. When I used to race My Hot Wheels with the neighborhood the fastest car I had was the demon that thing never lost 👍😂
