Lithuanian actor Viaceslavas Mickevicius has helped bring warmth and kindness to Ukraine since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. Together with a group of volunteers, he helps produce stoves out of old car rims. The stoves help provide heating for those in need in Ukraine.

That's what I was thinking 😊 It reuses old car parts, probably allows volunteers to develop their welding skills, provides practical as well as emotional solidarity to people in need of both (a bit like the Kazakh activists setting up 'Yurts of Incivibility' all over Ukraine), strengthens the bond between two nations. Plus, a potbelly stove full of chocolate and coffee sounds like something out of a fairytale! Well done to the people who thought of this and everyone taking part ❤

Absolutely. I was there when the roads were full of hours-long convoys of Soviet troops going back to Russia. In the local area, many people had never heard English, because there was a jamming mast to block TV and radio. For the first few weeks I was there, the only non-Soviet foreigner many had ever encountered, strangers compulsively told me their stories, the stories of their family, the stories of everyday indignities like going to pay your rent and the person in the municipal office scolding you for speaking “animal language”, Lithuanian, instead of Russian. Many officials had spent 30+ years in the country and never learned the language. People were happy to never have to go and wave a flag at another parade in their life. They were made to go by their bosses, who had responsibility for seeing they turned up. “Eventually we just would turn up and be seen, then sidle away to picnic in the park or go to the beach, like naughty schoolkids,” I was told - by a middle school teacher!

What a great idea. Lithuania is one of the countries that I want to visit after Ukraine wins the war. They are a small country but they have big hearts and they find ways to give and give some more. Estonia is also on my list of places to visit as they gave what is probably all of their howitzers to Ukraine. Poland is at the top of the list for being the best ally a nation can have because they not only support Ukraine they will go after the big dogs like Germany and embarrass them for being so reluctant to give heavy weapons that are desperately needed in Ukraine. Now the Leopards are on their way as are Abrams tanks and the next is going to be F16's and I can guarantee that flying those birds will make the Ukrainian pilots very happy. I've met quite a few F16 pilots who fly for the Air National Guard that is just minutes from my home and they loved their F16s. Now they fly F35s but some still miss the nimble F16s.

Thank you for caring and for your efforts! What a wonderful idea - super useful. I wonder how expensive it is to transport these stoves. For someone who lives far away in Canada, we can only contribute monetary donations. It would be wonderful to volunteer for such a cause.

These rims was not discarded. Most of them was still good, some was on cars, some was in garage waiting for winter, some was for sale.. These guys spread the message that they need rims to worm up Ukraine. All these rims was given by people.
