RFE/RL's Roman Pahulych accompanied a Ukrainian drone crew as they sent up the army's Leleka-100 unmanned aerial vehicle into occupied territory. Vlad, Yevhen, and their crew say they have made 2,000 sorties since the war began, by day and night.

@@Mortthemoose probably yes, or at least it needs a professional repair. If I am not mistaken, they are made from aluminimum soda cans, so there should be sufficient spares available. With that in mind, it seems to be better decision to prioritize higher payload and longer range, than a heavier parachute landing system.

Interesting. Being an old RC pilot I spot an FrSky Taranis remote controller. I hear the familiar sounds of a brushless speed controller powering on and servos centering. Civilian gear equipped with a thermal imager. I mean why not? Range is excellent on 2.4 (even if the old FM band actually had better range but was more vulnerable). Modern RC gear is also very resilient to interference. Good work Ukraine!

I was just watching a tech channel about toroidal propellers that are being evaluated on everything from little drones, through speed boats to cargo ships. Almost twice the propulsion efficiency and much less noise and less cavitation. The drone size can be 3D printed. I have a 3D printer so now I want a drone just to try this type of propeller for myself. It won't surprise me one bit when the day comes I see Ukraine teams adapting it.

Um, that is an epoxy hobby model with a reverse propeller Cox .049 engine. As I recall, very effective for controlled dogfights on the ball field of the elementary school in 1970..

NATO might want to develop attack drones, each mounting a .223 cal. SBR; one shot - one kill. Attack drones ride 10 each on carrier drones to russ trenches, artillery, and convoys. Carrier drones loiter as recon, radio relay and drone return. Drones attack russ from all altitudes and directions, spread out and maneuvering much, causing russ to waste ammunition; from all ranges. Ukraine : russ KIA ratio will become tremendously one-sided. Many russ weapons and vehicles will remain for immediate Ukrainian use 🇺🇦
