They wrote 10 episodes, then it got cut down to 8 by HBO. Then the writers strike happened and they couldn’t rewrite it down to 8 episodes so they cut episodes 9 and 10. They did the best they could. If HBO couldn’t afford the full 10 episodes then they couldn’t afford it. With no way to rewrite episode 8 then they gave what they could. That simple.

Just google it! They had budget problems because of the strike and Warner cutted just before they started filming the last 2 episodes and they needed to rewrite the ending in a few days!

After being cut down to 8 episodes the writers strike happened. They couldn’t rewrite episode 8. They gave us what they could. HBO couldn’t afford Rooks rest, the red sowing and the battle of the gullet in one season. Even GOT season 8 only had two battles. Asking for three is too much and would either bankrupt HBO or be an awful battle sequence.

And, in my opinion, is responsible for the lamest scenes in S1 and S2, which is Rhaenys breaking through a solid stone floor on dragonback and mudwrestling Tyland Lannister and Lohar. And given the quotes about HotD I've seen from her, I don't think she's a good fit for the show. BTW I enjoy your channel. I watch it from time to time.

A list of characters BUTCHERED in season 2: Rhaenyra - she has no agency and is justified in all her actions by omission, absence or lack of knowledge (no leader can survive that trifecta against them and yet she does). Daemon - he is no longer himself - he is handicapped by visions and rules by prophecy whereas a simple scene switch in episode 8 would've saved his arc at least somewhat. He's also verbally and morally gelded by the women on the show and the writers write the interplay between these characters to always make Daemon at fault, thereby forsaking any semblance of depth and complexity in the female characters. Alicent - is a parody of herself. She would not dare sacrifice her son, and insodoing, her entire family - especially not for the sake of Rhaenyra. Them meeting not just once, but twice so quickly after their last meeting undercuts tension, makes them far closer than they ever ought to be in this time and period and makes the writers say "it's not the women to blame here - despite all the losse, they're still trying to keep the peace" which is an absurd angle to take not only in this world but in any world - Human Psychology does NOT work this way and viewers can pick up on that immediately. Mysaria - instead of a contemptuous, resentment-driven female Machiavelli for the small folk, we get a cheerleader who is content with seeing her entire moral compass thrown to the winds if it's Rhaenyra the one doing it. Game of Thrones season 1 literally has the whore Shae say that no woman who was just raped or in Mysaria's case, disclosed said rape, would be fine with being kissed, groped, touched our have sex thrown in their face -- and yet this PROLOGUE to GoT can't seem to recall that psychological truth when it comes to Rhaenyra kissing Mysaria. Aemond - his descent is unruly, overly quick, lacks build up, tension, justification and ruins the wish to follow his character. Again, this is the "all men end up bad without female influence" angle the writers can't stop going for... This is not how men work. Men are complex creatures, just as much as women and to pretend like Aemond, as worldly as me has made himself, would discard any sense of morality so very quickly and with such little build up or pressure to his life to justify the sudden change.... It is absurd. Baela - is such a cool character in the books and none of that is seen in the series. She's a perpetual cheerleader for other characters thereby negating the writers' belief that women should have more agency. Rhaena - should die utterly and without remorse if she thinks she can so dangerously and disrespectfully neglect her charge of two small royal children in a time of civil war, all to go chasing after some dragon, which she will likely get, thereby completely undercutting a valuable moral lesson - if you drop all your responsibilities in the pursuit of hollow power, you do not deserve to attain it and will not be able to wield it either properly or respectably The prophecy - ASOIAF does NOT work with a "predetermined fate" framework. Prophecy is there to make the characters act either in pursuit of it, or in the attempt of escaping it - all just to find themselves embraced by it at the other end, but never how they expected and likely worse than they feared it would be. This is because their paranoia and improper judgment causes them to act in a way that brings the prophecy about despite their best efforts. The series takes the EXACT OPPOSITE approach, turning everything predetermined and thus, robbing EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER IN THIS WORLD of their agency, their morality, their worldviews...everything falls gleefully by the wayside. Anyone feel free to add... Who else did I miss?

Actually after the writers strike HBO told the show runner/production of the show they had to go back and make changes Before the changes they had 10 episodes and after they had a budget cut and had to make changes so the blame should not entirely be put on the writer staff but HBO who demanded the changes

@@humbleopulence actually it is a correct response With budget cuts comes scenes that are taken out that don’t explain in more detail reasons why characters are doing what they are doing among other things Plus did you see the part where I said they were FORCED to make changes You know the film industry has a long history of writers writing something and then an executive who has no knowledge in storytelling coming along and saying “I don’t like that. Change it” and because the executive holds the money, the writer can say no or they can keep their job and make the change Yes there are writers that exist that can’t write a good story and do butcher character arcs But for there to be evidence that the writers for this show, that they were forced to make changes because of budget cuts and executives telling them to change the story and you to still blame it completely on them without acknowledging the third party making them do it is crazy

@@humbleopulence I have an issue with you blaming them for something that is not entirely in their control That’s what I’m getting at They already had season 2 written and then after the writer’s strike their budget was cut and they were told to go back and make changes So we don’t know what they originally had planned and then how different it is from what we got So I am saying the blame for the quality of season 2 is not on them If I hire you to write me a show and then I say, “cut out this scene”, “edit this scene”, “I want this character to be more mean” then the writing isn’t your fault because you were not the one who had full creative control I destroyed your vision which ruined the end product Therefore you can’t be blamed So I’m saying don’t blame them for their writing because what they ended up writing is not what they wanted to write so they can’t be blamed for how the show turned out I don’t want to come off as heated I just want to get across that it’s not THEIR writing that’s bad necessarily because it’s not what they wanted to do
