Hotel Mario (CD-I Part 1) - Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)

The CD-I was released in 1991 by Phillips. They were originally working with Nintendo to produce a CD based add-on for the Super Nintendo, but when that didn't happen, the console known as the CD-I was born. It was a massive failure, and the whole project lost the company nearly a billion dollars. Interestingly enough, after their deal fell through with Nintendo, they were still contractually allowed to use their characters for their system.
In part one of the three-part CD-I series, the Nerd takes a look at console's only Mario title: Hotel Mario. After plans to develop a sequel to Super Mario World were scrapped, this game about closing hotel doors was made. Its bland gameplay and confusing controls has given it the reputation of being one of the worst Mario games ever made.

BigHailFan it was meant to be a multimedia device for the TV once CD-ROMs became common, like the Apple Pippin and 3DO. Hardware designers though that was going to be the next big thing in the 90s and so a bunch got made and they all failed. These days they all get lumped in as game consoles since the category they occupied went extinct. It's also why the CDi's pack-in controller was an infrared remote instead of, you know, a controller

How's that a fail? Nintendo gives zero fucks about Sony. Nintendo is still the best video game company with highest revenue in the world, plus they have a monopoly in the handheld console market. I will never, ever switch from Nintendo to any other game console manufacturer. Nintendo actually tries to be original (every console they have ever released had something original, that was usually copied later by Sega/Microsoft and Sony) and they make games that you actually want to play on a console (unlike FPS' and RPG's, which are horrible on a console because of bad controls.).
