Gisselle, wanted to drop by and say thank you. We were less than a week from our trip to Egypt when we saw your video that as Canadians, we were no longer able to get visa on arrival. We panicked, but were able to show up in person to an embassy to get our visas last minute. If not for your video, we would've missed out on a trip of our lifetime! Thanks! Egypt was amazing!

When I travelled to Egypt last year, a prime objective was to visit the Great Pyramid. What a stunning feeling to stand before a monument built with such care and precision 4,500 years ago, and know that in another 4,500 years IT WILL STILL BE THERE - unlike most of the creations of our "modern" civilization. Was able to go inside the passageways and enter the King's chamber ... it was a highlight of my life.

Excellent video Gisele. It would be possible to see the other entrance to the pyramids, I know there are two. Thanks for your videos, you are a genius.
@Gventures10 ай бұрын
Haha. Yeah maybe if I make a video about the Giza Necropolis and the pyramids area I will show both entrances. As I'm sure you heard me say in the video, I mentioned there are two entrances, but like I also mentioned in the video, I didn't show the main entrance because this video was about hotels near the pyramids, and there are very few at the main entrance, but dozens and dozens near the Sphinx entrance. I also loathe going to the main entrance. It's a longer walk up, there are tons and tons of tour buses, and it takes longer to get to if you're coming from anywhere near downtown (which I always am, as I live northeast of the pyramids). But when I make a more detailed pyramids video (not sure when, I have a lot of other ones I want to make about Egypt), I will make sure to include the other entrance 👍 Thanks for watching Joaquin!

Could you do a video about prices on souvenirs to not get scammed? Also like best places to buy from and what is reasonable prices? I’d love to explore this topic as I travel there soon but don’t want to be taken advantage of! Like a souvenir guide? Thank you 😊
@Gventures10 ай бұрын
I unfortunately don't know how much souvenirs should cost, that's the only problem. I never buy souvenirs (like papyrus, oils, jewelry, rugs, trinkets, all that), so I don't know how much one should be paying. But if you are looking to buy souvenirs I recommend going to Khan El-Khalili. There's no sure way to not get ripped off, even I do sometimes, or even if I go with my Egyptian boyfriend, because they see him with a foreigner and tell even him a higher price. The best way to try and figure out how much you should be paying or how low someone is willing to go: go to 5 different shops asking for the same item, and barter at each shop. They will all be willing to lower the price and you will begin to get a better idea of what that item should cost. They will give you different reasons as to why their product costs more: better quality, real not fake, hand crafted, etc. If you know how to tell the difference between real cashmere or pashmina or banana paper vs. papyrus or gold vs. painted gold, etc., then great! If not, just buy whatever you like for the lowest price😅 I did make 2 videos in Khan el-Khalili talking about this briefly, if you're interested in watching: Part 1: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZbbgYitjMl7b8U Part 2: kzbin.info/www/bejne/amSYgomNi6ZneJo
@hassansalah97639 ай бұрын
as an Egyptian I'm telling you that .. if it's not an official store or there's no ticket ,the price is nearly half of what buyer is saying.. so negotiate well and offer 60% of what he says if he refuses just leave him to the next shop 👍

Hi Gisselle! Thank-you sooo much for making this video! I've been thinking of taking a quick trip to Egypt and staying at the Egypt Pyramids Inn, but was curious about the other hotels in the area and the area in general. Your video was perfect! Thanks! (Your channel... great also! I've added a bunch of your videos to my "watch" list and will check them out as soon as I have some time.) Hmm... not sure if you know about the following or not... I was thinking of catching a taxi at the Cairo airport and heading straight to my hotel in Giza. Do you happen to know around how much I should expect to pay? (What about tipping? What percentage is custom in Egypt?) Is it easy to find a taxi at the airport? Are they willing to go as far as Giza? Hmm. Not sure if you know the answers. Either way... Happy New Year! :) And Congrats on an amazing channel! Julie (in Nova Scotia, Canada)
@Gventures10 ай бұрын
Hey Julie, thanks so much for watching, and Happy New Year to you as well!!! So excited for 2024 and what the year will bring 🤩 100% you can catch a taxi from the airport and they will take your hotel in Giza. I would recommend catching an Uber, just so you don't get ripped off by the white taxis who will charge you more. It depends on the time of day and traffic, but roughly an Uber from Cairo International to the Pyramids area with all the hotels should cost around 350-400 EGP ($11-$13 USD). You do need to catch an Uber in the parking lot, but it's easy to access, just walk out of the airport and you should be able to see it. Only issue is, it might take a while for the driver to find you, and it won't be easy for you to locate him unless you know the Arabic numbers (the license plate numbers are in Arabic). I actually made a video talking about some useful info for arrival to Egypt, and in part of that video I talk about the Ubers at the airport as well as the numbers kzbin.info/www/bejne/f52ZoY18nN6flas Tipping isn't huge here, most Egyptians tip very little, but I think Egyptians do see foreigners and hope to get tips. You could tip 20 EGP and it would be generous, most Egyptians round up to the nearest 5 😅 But I think if you can afford to tip more, it makes their day so why not

Thank you so much for your great content. It's very interesting and fun to watch. I will be going to Cairo soon and I was wondering whether it's calmer in a hostel next to the pyramids or in a hostel in downtown Cairo? I guess it's noisy everywhere but maybe you could tell me if there's a difference? Thank you 🙂
@Gventures8 ай бұрын
Sure. But first I have to point out, there are no hostels near the pyramids, only hotels and guest houses. All the hostels are going to be found in downtown Cairo. Generally, the pyramids are a more quiet area, because the pyramids area is sectioned off a bit from the main roads and the rest of Giza. I mean, it's Egypt so it's still noisy (dogs barking at night, maybe some cats meowling, some traffic noise, etc.) but it's quieter than downtown Cairo, which is a lot busier, hence more noise. I prefer downtown Cairo exactly for this reason: there's more to do. Plenty of food options, cafes, it's closer to many sites than the Pyramids in Giza are. Actually, I talk about location a bit in this video, in case you haven't seen it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f52ZoY18nN6flas
@Mela-eg9jt8 ай бұрын
@@Gventuresgreat, thank you for the response, it was very helpful to me. I have trouble sleeping when it's noisy so I will probably pick Giza and take an Uber into Cairo for the sights and restaurants.
@Gventures8 ай бұрын
@@Mela-eg9jt Okay. You might have trouble with the dogs near the pyramids though, especially at night. 5 star hotels are probably pretty quiet, but you'll pay the price. Maybe try Zamalek, I talk about it in the video I linked, you should watch it, I think it's useful. Zamalek is an island on the Nile and probably the most quiet area. But honestly, it's hard to find "quiet" anywhere in Giza or Cairo. 6th largest city in the world, over 22 million people, still developing, lots of stray cats and a fair amount of dogs to make noise at night...I would specifically search for places that mention the peace and quiet if noise bothers you.

@Gventures10 ай бұрын
Yessss solo travel is the best, I love it! But you know I actually never even have a tour guide, I just get Ubers to the places I want to go and explore on my own, I usually do that all over the world: taxis/local transportation to destination, then walk around and explore, maybe meet cool people. Of course, you should only do this if you confident and comfortable enough to, I know it's not for everyone and Cairo is hectic. Because I never take any kind of tours (with a group or by myself), I can't recommend a tour company. But I will say it's almost necessary to have a tour to take you to Saqqara/Darshur and Memphis, because those locations are far away and each site is spread out. However, I do think Giza Pyramids and Cairo can be easily done on your own, a guide isn't necessary. Just take an Uber to the pyramids, buy your ticket, explore. Then do the same for whatever else you want to see in Cairo and Giza. Again, the city is hectic (6th largest city in the world and still a developing country), but it's not dangerous and most people are very friendly and curious. Do generally ignore people trying to sell you things on the streets though, it's the way it must be done. If you don't straight up ignore them, they will persist.

It's hard for me to say though, as I don't have personal experience with any tour companies or guides....I'm sorry!

Gizelle, the memory of the pyramids that l have from 5 years ago is one of filth at the front gates to the pyramids, rubbish scattered here and there, someone chasing his horse that he was trying to whip down the main street and the sound of a horse or a camel behind the brick wall surrounding that area, groaning, a type of screaming if you will for its life! I've never forgotten the sound this animal made. Sorry but that's what l remember.

You can homestay for 10 dollar a night..also with pyramid view...much cheaper
@Gventures8 ай бұрын
Yeah, or you could stay in a hostel, that's what I always do and it's much cheaper. I also prefer downtown. But some people want to stay in a hotel near the pyramids. I made this video for them. Also I don't think the homestay is $10 a night during peak season, but maybe. Anyways, different strokes for different folks

I can't be sure, it looked like it said some sort of Bazaar on the sign as I was walking by. I can say that this is the location of where I was, right next to Nefertari Papyrus maps.app.goo.gl/Wf4Kf12mhyEkockb8

I'm very impressed at 5:26👍😄I have a qustion: Are the taxes included in these rates? If the room is $40 per night , is it realy $40 or plus other fees and taxes?
@Gventures6 ай бұрын
As far as I am aware, it's $40 total. Usually if someone tells you a price in Egypt, that's the final price

I can't remember exactly when I recorded this video. But I live in Egypt, so I've acclimated to the temps. I'd suggest googling average monthly temps in Egypt from city to city, as I have found google to be quite accurate. Also, depending on where in Egypt, the temps will be different, so it's good to check which city

Are you using your phone to film or a camera? Would a small video camera be allowed without any microphone? Thanks for all the videos.
@Gventures8 ай бұрын
Yes it should be fine, but not in certain areas. Any time there are a lot of police, security, military or anything like that around, don't film. It will just be a hassle for you, they will likely tell you to stop, and may tell you to delete your footage. Wait until you pass through security and then film. Leave your camera in your bag until after you have passed through and gone a good distance away. You are allowed to film in the pyramids area but it's better to get away from all the security stuff before you start. That goes for anywhere in Egypt. Also, don't film government buildings/embassies, etc. I almost never film with my phone, I always use my action camera with a small mic attached. Filming with a phone is a lot easier, almost nobody cares about that. Even my action camera is usually not the problem, it's the mic with the little furry wind muff on. It looks too "official" 🤣 Thanks for watching! 🥰
