A high school graduate went to north Korea as a senoir trip. He stayed in this exact hotel and while there he was framed for ripping a Jim Jung un poster off the wall, was arrested and held in a camp for a whole year. The Koreans finally sent him back to the U.S. but not before poisoning him. He died 2 days after arriving home. This is not bullshit there is an entire report on this horrific treatment of foreigners.

The guy at the end of the video stole a picture from the hotel wall which put him in jail & ended in him getting beat up & tortured by the North Korean guards. His family was pleading to bring their son back. For a month or two. Within those two months it was bad for him :(. When he finally came back to America, he was in a coma, and died later on due to complications. It’s bad in North Korea as a tourist especially being from America. They caught American spy’s in their country years ago. Giving them trust issues with us most likely.

Well said. Most KZbin rants are pathetically inaccurate. This one, however, shows how shifty and corrupt the NKs are. This kid (granted was wrong) tried taking a anti-American propaganda poster home and legit was tortured to the point of being comatosed, and then served on a platter back to the US with a bunch of pathetic BS lies of how he came to be a vegetable. As if we would do even 1% of that to a NK who stole a poster. Those people are brainwashed/savage waste of spaces. If there is one place on the planet that needs to be removed, it's North Korea.

Welcome to the Yonggakdo Hotel, an extraordinary and historic establishment nestled in the heart of Pyongyang, North Korea. Embrace the exceptional experience that only this iconic hotel can offer. Here's what makes the Yonggakdo Hotel a captivating and unforgettable destination: 1. Living History: The Yonggakdo Hotel's rich past dates back to its origins as a prison hotel in the 1960s. As you walk through its halls, you'll be surrounded by a sense of history and intrigue, giving you a unique perspective on North Korea's heritage. 2. Curfew for Charm: In a nod to its historical roots, the Yonggakdo Hotel maintains a tradition of turning off hot water at 10 pm, reminiscent of its former life as a prison hotel. This thoughtful touch adds a touch of authenticity to your stay. 3. Unique Dining Experience: Savor a culinary adventure at the hotel's two restaurants, aptly named "Number 1" and "Number 2." While the menu options may be limited, they showcase authentic North Korean flavors, allowing you to indulge in the local cuisine. 4. Cozy Comfort: The Yonggakdo Hotel provides comfortable rooms, ensuring you have a restful stay amidst your explorations of Pyongyang. While the beds may be firmer and slightly smaller than standard, they're designed for your comfort. 5. The Enigmatic Fifth Floor: The fifth floor's restricted area adds a mysterious and intriguing aspect to your visit. As you explore the hotel, you'll be reminded of its history while maintaining your privacy and comfort. 6. Modern Amenities: While embracing its past, the Yonggakdo Hotel also caters to contemporary travelers' needs. You can expect amenities such as Wi-Fi, room service, a well-equipped gym, and a spa for relaxation. 7. Central Location: Being in the heart of Pyongyang, the Yonggakdo Hotel allows you to easily explore the city's attractions, landmarks, and cultural sites. The hotel's concierge can assist in arranging city tours and excursions to enhance your experience. 8. Cultural Immersion: Staying at the Yonggakdo Hotel offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in North Korean culture. Engage in friendly interactions with locals and learn about the nation's traditions and way of life. Book your stay at the Yonggakdo Hotel and embrace an unforgettable journey into North Korea's past and present. As you step into its corridors, you'll be transported back in time while appreciating the modern comforts and amenities it provides. Discover the beauty and enigma of Pyongyang while creating memories that will last a lifetime (included but not limited to tourists) Please note that your stay at the Yonggakdo Hotel will also offer an opportunity to appreciate the admiration and respect that the North Korean people have for OUR Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un, who plays a significant role in the country's culture and traditions. While you may observe displays of loyalty and reverence, it's essential to bow down with respect and sensitivity during your stay or else! Embark on this extraordinary adventure at the Yonggakdo Hotel and embrace the opportunity to experience North Korea in a way that few travelers have the chance to encounter. While you’re at it, don’t forget to ask about our work camps! We have great family packs too! We look forward to welcoming you to this remarkable destination!

Honestly I wish I was followed this way when I went to Sudan or most of Africa for that matter. NK is cenrtinly strange, but nothing too weird. I didn't feel like everyone is a robot actor placed by Kim Jung Un to fool me. Growing up in USSR I was pretty used to seeing empty streets, it was pretty nostalgic actually. Am I right in thinking that the last clip is of Otto Warmbier? For anyone who doesn’t know, he visited North Korea 2015 with a tour group. One night, the group went out while he stayed at the hotel. While they were gone, someone broke into the 5th floor, removed a North Korean propaganda poster from the wall and placed the poster on the floor. It is unclear if the person was Otto, but since he was an American and he was at hotel at the time, North Korea didn’t really care if he did or didn’t do it. When his group was leaving, they kept him in North Korea while claiming that he was sick. After that, he was forced to admit to taking the poster down in hopes of overthrowing North Korean government. From this confession, he was charged with a 15 year sentence of imprisonment with hard labor. In April of 2017, North Korea sent Otto back to the US. He was in a coma from what North Korea claimed to be a food-borne botulism and usage of a sleeping pill. Otto would unfortunately never wake up from this coma and would pass away just a week after returning to the US.

The video with the guy being arrested is about an american student that went on a trip to north korea, he was called Otto Warmbier. Otto went to a hotel's floor that you are not allowed to enter and he stole a propaganda poster from there as a cool souvenire. At the airport just as he was about to leave two guards took him away and sentenced him to 10 or 15 years of hard labor. The president of the US had made a deal with the North korean government and let him go but he was in a coma because of the torturing and beating he faced in the concentration camp. He was taken back to the United States but 5 days later he died. A very sad story, the guy seemed like a really cool guy. I would have been his friend
