Razormind is the quintessential Payday 2 track: quiet but tense section for when the heisters are maintaining stealth, solid build up followed by a drop for if the heisters' cover has been blown & the cops are on their way, and a hard-hitting high-energy that can loop into itself while not sounding boring for when the heisters are actively fighting off a police assault. The "cover blown" section also repeats (partially) during any lulls between police assaults. This, "Break the Rules" (which you've already done), "Evil Eye", and "Ode to Greed" are my favorites of Viklund's tracks. "Black Yellow Moebius" is also a crowd favorite.

It's been years since I last played it, but still listen to the soundtrack here and there. "Razormind" along with "Donacdum" are my faves, I believe the latter is one of the few ones that isn't Viklund. I just love how the VA lines are sampled in it.

Payday 2's ost is the best at building and hyping that tension and then releasing it. It's so good everytime. I can't think of another game that has such a mastery over this. That phrase you said "I'm confident and uncomfortable at the same time" is the best description I could have only dreamed of saying.

Simon Viklund did a incredible job with the ost for this game! The game music will change as the heist progresses through 4 phases, they open on "stealth" and loop there if you are successful on stealthing the entire mission but if things go "loud" the stealth part of the song will transition to a "control" phase which is the start of the song that begins to amp up a little bit, cops are arriving, you're hiding away hostages and its a stand still.. for the next few moments it will change again into what we call the "anticipation" phase where the police who arrived first to the scene retreat and swat teams slowly enter their way towards you (this phase can go as long as 30 seconds which suits the name anticipation very well!), then the fun starts and the assault wave starts as all hell breaks loose cops are relentlessly throwing themselves at you and you just have to survive this onslaught. We call this the "sustain" phase, and finally once you kill off enough swat they will retreat and you and your team will have a few seconds of respite to collect yourselves after a horde of police.. the music fades down for a couple seconds; this is called the "fade" phase. After that the music will go back into control then moves to anticipation and right back into sustain continuing that loop of awesome varied music until you finish the heist. This is why you didn't hear any loop to the song here!

Indeed, it's a first person game, & co-op w/ up to 4 people. Often the bank heists start off stealthy, like Ocean's Eleven. But security guards or cameras can catch someone off guard, & then things escalate to what's essentially a Michael Bay film of conflict proportions. Exaggerated numbers of armored cops trying to gun you down. That shift from quiet, classy & non-lethal, to hostage taking, grenade tossing. It's riveting stuff. As I commented before in your previous Payday reaction, Evil Eye is my favorite track. I'm sure you'll remain curious until the request finally appears. Also, regarding Payday 1, it was good, but Payday 2 came out, & was so well supported w/ new content for the longest time, & was much more fun, that it garnered a large, consistent player base over a long time. It's been a bit of a hectic ride for the devs, but they've recently announced Payday 3 in the works. I await the new soundtrack w/ baited breath.

Seconding Evil Eye- with the exception that I can't choose it if I'm trying to fully stealth a mission, haha. Something about the buildup section starts to make my skin crawl as it loops; and if I'm stealthing successfully then it never gets to the loud part 😂

PAYDAY 1 and 2 are pretty different. I wouldn't say 2 is "better" as much as it is different. I prefer the first game by virtue of it not having as much bloat and having a Michael Mann-esque tone. That and I prefer its music.
@FrozenSolid90
@FrozenSolid90 Жыл бұрын
Payday 1 was kind of a cops and robbers themed Left 4 Dead clone, 2 is much more of an different game doing more than just being a horde shooter with map objectives. Also, for the police assaults, I think the most accurate comparison to what the police response to any crime looks like in my opinion is Blues Brothers from 1980.

Composer behind payday OST know how to get you moving. Most tracks has this urgency, that "gotta run" feeling to them, which also transition to their other work. Their work in "GTFO", co-op horror survival game, has exact same feel of "Oh shit, we gotta go", but with a more tension\terror vibes.

I've been waiting for more Payday 2 on this channel. Many people would say that the soundtrack is what elevates Payday from your average shooter to a great shooter. It just adds so much hype to your heisting. A personal recommendation of mine would be "Trouble Always Inbound" and "Mr. Purple" from the Reservoir Dogs crossover. Though "Evil Eye" is a lot of people's favorite. That one is from the Hotline Miami crossover (lots of crossover in Payday)

The sight of Razormind showing up on the channel makes me so happy, because its such a classic payday 2 track and is one of the first heist themes a player will usually get to hear and man does it nail it as a first impression. Even better, this track is the first of literally *dozens,* and Every track is just as good as this. It is not inaccurate to say that Payday 2 without the music wouldn't be nearly as good as it is because the music is just so good and such an integral part of the game. Also, if you're wondering what the best track in the game might be, here's a fun fact for you, its name is Random, because none of them are bad! Its presence here makes me hope that we get the perfect encapsulation of the payday series in the form of the (hilariously enough) April Fools Music Track "It's Payday!" some time soon. I fully expect someone to request it once we get a concrete release date for Payday 3 if its not already in the request list frankly. I kid you not, I have never heard someone go so hard for an april fools joke and as soon as it was possible I literally replaced the main menu music with the april fools track because its just so good.

From what I understand about how Payday music is made, the more “metal” stuff represents the gang, while the electric stuff is the cops coming in. Also if you like some Opera music, but payday like, then Ode to Greed is a great one

I often forget how good Razormind actually is, because when I think of it the first thing I recall is that high-pitched siren when the assault starts. This video reminded me of the excellent buildup that leads to that siren, and the incredible work that follows after it! And, listening to it again basically transported me back to Harvest & Trustee Bank, played that heist so many times that I must've spent entire months within its walls.

I remember my buddies who have 1000s of hours in payday buying me the game and saying "you've played shooters? You'll be fine, just do what we tell you" and booting up a pretty difficult mission. This brings me back to that very first play session. Me, the rookie in this heist, trying to listen to the shots my veteran buddies are calling while this music is pounding in my adrenaline-filled brain and the fuzz are coming in HOT on our squad while we try and run with the cash. Payday 2 is a thrill, that's such a great core memory. So immersive.

The Payday OST has a consistent structure to it as it's one of the mechanics of the game. It is split into sections 1, Stealth/setup, where the crew of heisters has not tripped any alarms and no one knows they're being robbed yet. 2, Control, being where the alarms have gone off and the cops are on their way. They must use this time to take control of the place and get the job done 3, Buildup/tension. The cops are on scene and are starting to get into position. Things are about to get hot and you don't have too long now. and 4, Assault. The real meat of every track. The police charge in en masse in an effort to bring you in dead or alive. Survive until you force the cops to regroup and the song dies down and loops back around to 2 until you leave, either in the getaway or in cuffs.
@daz211
@daz211 Жыл бұрын
The assault track is the longest segment of the track because if you go loud, chances are you'll spend more time in the assault wave than not, so Simon (and the artists who came after his departure from Overkill) made sure to give us plenty of song so it doesn't feel like a tedious loop

The game has 4 phases in a level and you can hear that in this song, it's very clear in this song. You have Stealth, no alarms triggered, the guards are ok, Control/Anticipation, the alarm has triggered, the cops have been altered, Assault, the cops are on you and attacking then Fade, the mission is over. The start of the song loops as long as you don't trigger the alarm.

I feel like I should throw out some recommendations on other tracks to listen to. So, here we go. (I’ll also mark personal favorites with a *) Backstab * Drop Zone Locke & Load And Now We Wait * (Fun fact, it’s the original composers’s favorite track that he made for the game.) Pulse * Jokes On You Sly Gloves Steel Wrapped Gift * Death Row * Donacdum Bullet Rain * Underground Lockdown * Tricks of the Trade Propulsive Force Blast Our Way Out * Storm Fuel Overload Driveshaft * Trainwreck Left in the Cold * Blastaway * 8 Bits Are Scary * Dirt & Dust Sucker Punch * (Best track. 12/10) And as its own bonus segment, remasters of tracks from the first game, Payday: The Heist. Aside from one (which I’ll point out) the only difference in track name is the year number, which is when it was remastered. I’ll put the remaster year in parentheses for clarification and formatting reasons. Stone Cold (2017) * (Best Remake track and best PDTH track imo) Double Cross (2017) * Code Silver (2018) * Breach of Security (This is that exception, the remake is simply called Breach 2015) Gun Metal Gray (2015) * Crime Wave (2015) The Take (2016) Three Way Deal (2016, and a side note, it’s the one track I prefer the original over the remake. It’s just faster.) Home Invasion (2016) and finally, a track originally just made by the initial composer Simon Viklund as a normal song, but the remake is also a heist track. I Will Give You My All (2017) * (It’s also my Cousin’s favorite track) And it’s only after I type this that I realize I could’ve just said to listen to all of it. Eh, this’ll at least give you a good baseline to work with. Have fun, this is legitimately the best OST I’ve heard to date. Hope you enjoy it.

So I don't know if it's been said, but Payday 2 Heist tracks have 4 parts. Stealth (Quiet and sneaky), Preparation (You've been discovered, things are about to get real), Anticipation (The initial wave of first responder cops and ai), and finally Assault (when combat is at it's apex and you're mowing through waves of enemies). It's a genius move with the music to tease the player, build the tension, and when the tension pops it's perfectly in sync with just going ham. I love Payday 2's OST and it's all fantastic.

I'm very happy to see Payday again! seriously we've gotta get more of these songs to you, it's honest to christ some of the best VGM out there. This track in particular was composed by Simon Viklund, but after 2018 or so he stopped composing for the game. The main new composer, Gustavo Coutinho has taken up the mantle very nicely, and a lot of his additions have been on par with some of Simon's best imo. That's not to knock the other either guest or transition composers however, as Le Castlevania composed a few guest tracks, and Carl Noren, whom also had some wonderful additions. I have to say that there just aren't any bad tracks despite being 90+ songs at this point. And personally I recommend Bonebreaker if you're feeling up to Mariachi music mixed with electric rock :)

The Payday tracks come in a few sections. In order on this I do believe they are the Stealth, Buildup, Assault and Control. Stealth part is before the alarm goes off, Buildup is when the police are about to start assaulting the place, Assault when they're coming in full force and Control is a slightly calmer period between the assaults as they gather around for another one.

Basically every track is broken down into sections as the music is dynamic in game. 0. Stealth - Where every track starts and loops if you're trying to stealth a heist. (Heists that are loud only skip this phase) 1. Control - When stealth ends/end of an assault wave 2. Anticipation - Assault wave is coming 3. Assault - (You have summoned the horde) After that it goes back to Control and loops till the end of the heist. (There are pieces that are bridges between phases so it's a clean transition) Some tracks have alternatives phase tracks (Dead Eye has a two Assault tracks for example with one that plays rarely or Break the Rule's Vocal Track as examples) Almost every track is a joy to listen to. Even the Christmas themed tracks (Ho Ho Ho as an example.) When I ever stop playing Payday 2. And I come across the music, I redownload the game and waste more hours playing it with music on blast.
