Jak and daxter the precursor legacy was my second ps2 game. I was used to running around croc with the d-pad and couldn’t figure out why jak wasn’t moving when I first booted it up, then when I was randomly pushing buttons I dashed forward with the square button and got excited😂 eventually I figured out that I needed to use the joy sticks and enjoyed the game for a few years but could never get past the first lava section on the zoomer. Then in 6th grade after my mom and I moved to a different state, I booted up J&D just to fuck around until I could find me memory card. I played long enough to get the 20 power cells and tried to get past that lava section. To my surprise I managed to do it but had to go to bed. I kept my ps2 on for almost a month straight getting further and further than I ever had before because I didn’t think I could get that far again if I turned it off before finding my memory card again. Now any time I replay the first game I make sure to collect every powercell and precursor orb before the final fight. I absolutely love this series.

In a Jak 4 I suspect that Dark Eco sylo where gol and maya are entombed is buried somewhere undisturbed until an Archaology team accidentally finds it, opens it and those two emerged as something more twisted than their first exposure to dark eco, with bits of metal from the dark eco robot on their bodies. And they're really, really angry.

Honestly, after over 15 years of making super "mature" action adventure games, I bet Naughty Dog is yearning to make something bit more wholesome and unrealistic again. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the devs want to wind off from the horrible darkness of TLOU 2 and maybe even start working on another Jak game. Especially now as so many bright colourful games are really popular like Genshin Impact, I think audiences would love it.
@Conv1cti0n5 ай бұрын
i feel like if they make a jak 4, it needs to be grittier because that is where the series was heading. Have final fantasy like graphics and have the combat and gun play be enhanced for next gen. Add a bag of new mechanics that have you explore the world even better. I wouldnt want them to go the route of the ratchet and clank games at all.

I LOVED this video, thanks for doing this Kyler. I played all the jak and daxter games up to Jak x combat racing (although I barely remember the first and never played Daxter spin off game) it holds a special place in my heart for my PS2 was a hand me down from my older cousin who played the games with me then I with my little brother, me and brother spent whole summers just replaying combat racing. I still keep the same PS2 and game displayed in my office to this day. Though I think it very unlikely we will ever see a Jak 4, I can see a re-master of the games in the future being a possibility .
@NanoNutrino10 ай бұрын
They are being ported to PC, you can play Jak 1 right now on PC natively in 4k 16:9 120fps with a hd texture pack. They would never get officially remastered because the game engine code is obsolete and has been lost to the mists of time. The decompilation team have brought them back from the grave, this is the quintessential version of the Jak games now.

I'd love Jak IV. Keep te OG art style I think, I think there is a bit of nostalgia for that low poly look that we miss in todays ultra-realistic looking games. I like the cartoony, evocative art style. I'd love to see locations from the previous games revisited. The ruins of locations from Jak and Daxter, a rebuilt more utopian Haven City, and the Wastelands now that the eco shortage has been corrected. Maybe get some lore on what exactly the metal heads are and the history of the war between the Precursors and Dark Makers. I think a Dark Maker villain would be cool, maybe like a more refined version of Dark Daxter's design but with a really sinister villain personality behind a brutish appearance. And I like the idea that there needs to be a Sage for each type of Eco again, and part of the story could be seeking them out to fend off this Dark Maker villain trying to bring the war between his kind and the Precursors back to the world.

I presume you know that the game has been completely decompiled/reverse engineered, it's been PC ported and is now playable in 4K 120fps. They are working on Jak II and will work on Jak III afterwards. The games were basically dead because the game engine code was unique and not used anymore, so no one knew or remembered how to use it, there was no documentation on it so no one could relearn it. The official re-releases are all bugged up because the code is inaccessible so they can't fix bugs, but the pc port decompilation team have brought it back to life. Maybe in time the community could completely remaster the game graphically with path tracing.

Yesterday I completed Jak 2 for the… somethingth time. And it is easily my favourite of the franchise. Hardest, but I think the story was so ambitious and lands. Did I rage quit a few times? Yeah. Did I find out ways to exploit some of the hardest missions that make it very easy like the piece of the seal in the water slums and the metal head leader boss battle? Yes. But while I felt a little dismayed at how the vibe shifted from this quasi magical somewhere between Disney between comic book between anime colourful collectathon of the first game that I lived in (and now can beat in like 4 hours without really paying attention to what I’m doing like muscle memory), but every time I beat Jak 2 I realise how much more I love it every time.

Jak2: I got stuck on the EXACT SAME MISSION as a kid but my issue was I could NOT see the lasers from the turrets in the first corridor and just figured it was the games intention to knock me down to 1 hit wasn't until years later (and a better Tv) that I actually noticed the lasers and got through easily had to edit: Jak 3: have you heard the fan theory where there's actually another time loop in the moment where Jak leaves with the precursors at the end and appears next to daxter, Basically the theory is Jak DOES go with the precursors and gains all the knowledge and ability to become what this timeloops rendition of Mar would be, jumping back in time to appear next to dax watching himself leave. . . however this doesn't explain why he didn't age a damn day but eh, precursor magic I guess.
