It's sad to read these reviews, my foster mum (my dad's sister) had a hotpoint from the late 70s up until the early 90s. It was used everyday, taking care of 5 adults & 2 babies then another 2. At the maximum there were 9 adults, 4 children and 3 dogs in the home. In the end they moved and left the machine, a silly mistake as the newer hotpoint gave so much trouble & was replaced with a Bosch.

Indeed, the older machines were very good, easy to repair, and tended not to need complicated repairs, especially if they have electromechanical programmers. I run two old bosch machines for my laundry, and I keep a couple for breakdowns or spares, so really I usually have 4 working machines. But I have the space and the will to do this. The lady who gave me this machine wanted a new machine, she told me that she had thrown something at the door and damaged it. Not everyone thinks logically.

I have one where the machine appears dead. There is power to the machine and when power is turned at the switch, there is a brief flash of light on the start/pause button and then nothing. I assume it is the control panel but not sure.

Sorry to double post but this could easily be saved, hell as you said it's just the paddles. That motor, belt and drum look mint, I've seen nearly new Samsung machines basically gone because they used two different metals for the drum & rear belt wheel. You know mixing two metals in presence of an electrolyte is a bad idea. The design of this drum whilst cheap looking, is technically much better. It would take a little fiddling but cable ties, heavy rope or 3D printed wedges could hold those paddles down no bother. Hell remove the paddles, file down any sharp bits then gasket them. Just add a few hard balls to each wash. a struggling family would be very grateful for this machine, especially with the large load

I have seen quite a few high quality machines fail because, as you say, the alloy in the spider becomes a sacrificial anode and rots or bursts, the new parts are so expensive that nobody would put them in a machine that is about 8 years old.

My Zanussi jet system washer dryer has a paddle missing, I put 3 strips of duct tape over the jagged ,bits which lasts about three washes. It's 16 years old ,best machine I ever had. Today it stopped working, not sure what the problem is , possibly pressure switch as it is overfilling and almost flooded my kitchen. I would buy the same model again if I could get one in good condition, Reason ,it has an unsealed tub and is a way better build than most of the Crap that's being produced today.

Surely you can get a pressure switch and paddle on eBay for small money?

I've got an Aqualtis! It's not great. The newest version with the blacked out door instead.... And the concrete block can't be changed. No bolts... Hate the machine so much! Plus, the drum is bigger but the paddles are smaller... Stupid... And a "titanium" drum. But it actually isn't because it's magnetic. Titanium isn't magnetic.

I used to have an aqualtis it was a great machine weird looking you could fit so much in them quiet to. but kept saying F5 all the time even though it was all free from blockages and pumped sounded fine. Could just turn it off at the mains and it would kinda reset it I guess 🤷🏻♂️ used to do it every 7 cycles on que lol 😂 I gave it away to a friend and it died two weeks later lol.

And what about putting a few stainless steel rivnuts inside and bolt these suckers down? The bolts can be the flat head ones, can be countersunk in the plastic and made smooth with some epoxy...

My aqualtis has corroded a little ( it’s rusty with paint chipped off) just below the door rubber seal. Not sure what to do
@bootsowen4 жыл бұрын
Why do you have to do anything?

True

Yeah we had exactly the same as well as soap dish cap coming off. So what I did was wire brush it, to get all the flaking paint off. Then I coated it with a anti rust gell. Then I used two pack wood filler which goes off in five minutes and sets rock hard. It’s still working well and doesn’t leak.

Love your videos bootsowen! Quick question... Could you not just weld on 3 little metal tabs to the drum for the paddles to fit back on? Such a strange but nice (different) Hotpoint. Never seen one like this before. Take care.
@bootsowen6 жыл бұрын
You could weld on the tabs but you cant slide on the paddles and bend the tabs out when the drum is in the tub. as the tub is factory sealed you can't take it apart to do this! Even if you did find a way to attach the paddles firmly this machine wouldn't have a resale value that would make it worthwhile, as it is difficult to get any real money for a machine that has cosmetic damage, like the crack in the door plastic!
