Thank you, out hot point is 10 years old and never failed until today with a drum full of water, it’s in a corner with the dryer on top and the fridge next to it but still managed to tip it backwards enough to get a bowl under it and low and behold the filter was full of a mass of hair and bits of plastic! Cleaned it all out and it’s running fine again now. I was just about to go to Curry’s and buy a new one but realised I had to get the water out somehow anyway so found your video, you’ve saved me a new washing machine today!

Thanks Lurgs - just took the filter out and found an elastic band that has been impeding the spinning thing which has been gradually worsening the draining out over the past couple of weeks. This was an excellent step by step guide for me, much appreciated!

I think i just fixed my hotpoint that wasnt draining. Before this video i put it on another wash foolishly and it filled up more an wouldn't drain still 😅 watched this an as soon as i opened the drainage part some shit was stuck i removed it with a shed load of boiling hot water turned it on and its now draining and on a dry cycle 😊 you are a legendary man lol thanks dude i only got the bloody thing a week ago second hand obviously

Hi Lurgs, I have an indeset washing machine , the standpipe is 66cm from the floor, the pipe going from the back of the machine on the left to the standpipe on the right, it goes horizontally across back of machine and down into the standpipe, my washing is now not draining even in a spin.. is the standpipe too low please? Would that be a problem? It was like this when I moved in.. Thanks for any advice Lurgs! 😊 I've checked the filter.. really clean.

No that should be ok as water is pumped out and the weight of the water should make it flow and move. Maybe the pump has failed or there’s a blockage in the drainage hoses

You may be able to turn it using pliers then simply buy a new filter, but beware of lots of water. Good luck

How odd. If it’s brand new and the hose is connected then it should all work. It could be faulty.

You should be able to see any debris in there and flick it out with a flag bladed screwdriver or something similar. Or a small grab claw which people use when they drop screws into engine bays etc

Hey what do you do if you just can't open that bit more than a slight turn? Mine won't turn more than a quarter turn and I just don't want to force it in case I snap something

It could be a hairband stuck behind it maybe, make sure there is nothing blocking it. Else it could be the pump is faulty.

Check the mains cold water feed pipe, make sure it's not kinked. Check if there's an inlet filter where the hose goes in, this may be blocked up
