Best use for a 3d plastic printer I've seen to date. Well done! Looking forward to part 2!

Great job on the pattern! Excellent printer work, but that's just the start.

Thanks! The plaster of paris did kinda work, but also caused problems of its own. Thankfully castings this size are not a regular occurrence.

Liking this - get your aluminium really hot when pouring this Olly. I’m sure you have a feeder, risers and also decent ingate in mind. I’m actually a foundry Engineer by trade - long time ago it seems

I made a few false starts at gating but got it to work in the end. Will show you the result sometime :o)

As a patternmaker by trade, all looks great on the pattern! Just make sure it is gated sufficiently, good rule of thumb is to have 3x the aluminium volume of the casting. Two thirds in the risers and gating, and the one third the casting itself. This helps hold the heat needed for the casting to be fed in it's entirety. Did you account for shrinkage in this case?

I wish I'd had that much spare material! I was very severely limited by my tiny foundry so had to have a few goes at getting the gating to work. Managed to get a good one in the end - there'll be another video along soon :o)
