I have tried to cover as many scenarios as possible in this video that involve exporting from Houdini to cinema 4d. This includes Alembic, Particle and Scatter setups but also VDB exports.
I simply wanted to give the 3D community something back and I hope this video is usefull for some of you!

Love this! Another thing I'd find useful is texturing Houdini grains inside of c4d, like different parts of it. I've struggled to wrap my head around it and I'm close to reaching the point of believing its not possible. Great video!

it is possible but can you be more specific with what you mean by texturing grains? do you want every single grain particle to be different shaded?

@@maxschwugier Hey, sorry for the late reply. I mostly mean like having a grain sim textured in 4-5 different parts, I tried using a camera mapping material but it didn't work.

Your copy to points grids workflow is really fast but seem to be not very efficient (c4d side)with big numbers or im wrong? When i need to render in c4d the particle i export the point via alembic but with some conversion before export. IN HOUDINI Main Points: - Default vector, quaternion and matrix attributes will not import into C4D correctly. They must be explicitly converted the the correct type in vex, or created with the correct type via an attribute create node - Orientation must be a matrix3 attribute and is plugged into the "Alignment" p@orient = dihedral({0,0,1},v@N); 3@align = qconvert(@orient); setattribtypeinfo(0,"point", "align","matrix"); // C4D want Matrix3 for rotation setattribtypeinfo(0,"point", "rest","vector"); // C4D want Vector3 not 3float Vector In C4D ALEMBIC export Inside Geo SOP In C4D import Alembic Particle on top of this create a Programming> Xpresso Node. Inside Create a PPASS>>PGET>> PSET PASS connect PPASS Particle to PGET and PSET. FROM PGET TO PSETT CONNECT NODE. CD Vector >> Cd Vector and Color (for viewport) ALIGN MATRIX to ALIGNMENT PSCALE TO SIZE or SCALE LIFE REAL > LIFE REAL AGE REAL >> AGE REAL Velocity to Velocity but in remap the value from 0to400 to 0 to 1 for example. Its a bit of works but in this way c4d has no problems with millions points and rs tag for instancing 👍

do you know if its possible to assign a specific ID/attrib to each point in houdini, to use that attrib to copy specifics instances from a list of objects in c4d?

@@es_ina you need to create different path attribute, create path from attribute from alembic rop (something like this) so in c4d when you import you have separated point geometry and you can assign different mesh from rsobject tag.I'm on vacation let me know if you solved it.

Regarding 18:10, wouldn't the easiest method be to just use the connectivity SOP to give each connected piece a "path" string attribute instead of the "part" attribute?

good point! i think there are a few ways to do it this is how i do it. maybe not the most efficient one but it works :D
