I remember at the time thinking that Roy was going to be ousted eventually..Ease one one in and ease one out at the same time... Still sad that it happened to a club legend like it did but ultimately i don't think we'd have won anything major under him which pains me to say and it turned out to be the right choice

Roy Evans did decently at least. He inherited a club devastated by Graeme Souness's shite signings and tactics and the club was in a freefall. Roy did managed to halt it and instilled confidence to his team. He also gives the youngsters more chances to play. Because of that, Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman and Jamie Redknapp flourished. Established veterans like Ian Rush worked well with the youngsters and he was back to his scoring greatness. Gerard Houllier came in and brought in much-needed discipline and focus to the team tye media dubbed "The Spice Boys". But joint managerials in top flight football will never work coz of different ideas and tactics. Houllier also disapproved some of Roy Evans's signings. It worked as stop-gap measures but the likes of old guys like Brad Friedel, Paul Ince, Phil Babb and Stan Collymore can never compete at the next level.

The joint manager set-up was a bit bizarre for sure! Liverpool FC really did need fresh ideas back then. They were starting to stagnate under Roy Evans.
