You made the right choice with the walnut box. The pattern would be more subdued on a maple box. It's absolutely beautiful with the walnut! Nice work!
@NewtonMakes3 жыл бұрын
I was worried about that, the pattern being subdued. I might have had to add walnut edge banding or something additional to the box if it was maple.
@CheveeDodd3 жыл бұрын
@@NewtonMakes I had the same thought after posting my reply. Banding the panel would give you the separation contrast you'd need.

I think the ingenuity and creativity are amazing, as seen by the final result. The maple splines really do well in the sides, and the grain of the walnut is fantastic! Thanks for the build video!

Walnut is NEVER a bad choice
@brysonanderson57563 жыл бұрын
This would be amazing with some copper inlay. Just to take it to that next level. But this looks so good. The level of detail and the time and effort that went into this shows. I liked the idea of the splines of maple to break up some of that walnut.

I think it would look like something is missing if there were no splines.

Is there a reason you didn't miter your liner pieces? If the miters are tight, sometimes glue is not required as a friction fit will hold them in place. Also, the liner miters coincide with the box miters making for a very neat appearance. Nice work, just curious.

1 of the tip/tricks that I use when cutting a lid off is to set the blade just shy of cutting all the way though and then use a utility knife to finish the cut this keeps the lid from getting into the blade and then sand it like you did. Have you ever done this or seen it done

Very nice. I agree with your choice and love the walnut bottom. I’m wondering if it’s possible to miter the corners for the maple liner - or are they too thin for this?
