Look if you want walk-in closets stay in the USA. Or move to Dubai. If you're going to another country to experience their culture, experience their culture. Most of the world doesn't put walk-in closets as a priority

Bradley Gregory Things are going well here in Cuenca, Bradley. We have very busy social calendars plus we travel a lot. The show is staged reality. The apartment we picked on the show, we were already living in for 8 months when we filmed. We did both want to be in El Centro but we also wanted something that was new or remodeled on the inside. We did exactly what Keith said in the show. He uses a closet in one room and I use the closet in another room. It works. Hope you get back to Cuenca soon. If you do send us an email through our website at retireearlyandtravel.com
@L.Spencer7 жыл бұрын
We also used the closets in other rooms since the room we used was the quietest but didn't have any closets. Also, in our Mexican apartment we didn't have hot water but boiled it on the stove and mixed it with water in a bucket whenever it was cold. Hot water is a luxury! I was wondering, do they make you take out your furniture when they film? I think it's funny when prospective renters tour places that have so much stuff it doesn't look like anyone is moving soon.
@RetireEarlyAndTravel7 жыл бұрын
Loraine Spencer Yes they do remove our furniture to shoot the HHI episode. They were at our house at 7 am with a three man crew to start packing and moving. After the shoot, same day they move everything back into the apartment. We have a blog post you can read at www.retireearlyandtravel.com/house-hunters-international-filming It shows a lot of behind the scenes photos. If you want to read about the process of getting selected and the behind the scenes story go to www.retireearlyandtravel.com/house-hunters-international-journey. Thanks! Take care!

Lovely options of apartments to choose from.. I have thoroughly enjoyed this tv series (and especially the international series!) for so long now, that I couldn’t guess as to the number of years❣👏👍 Although I must say that when it comes to the ‘guess/ participants’ what amazes me esp after all of the years this show has existed, is how unrealistic the expectations are.. as to what the properties (esp incl those in countries which usually are nowhere near as well off/ typically do not have easy access to many of the taken for granted widespread amenities, etc.. etc! (viewers are well aware of the many differences!). One would think that prior to making large, significant changes in their lives, such as choosing to live somewhere.. possibly halfway across the world, where there’s quite possibly/probably differing construction.. materials.. availability of some items/ incl time frames to receive if/when ordered, etc etc... that expending some effort doing one’s own *research* would a logical.. ‘Must!?!’ esp nowadays where info on nearly any-everything can be found fingertips computer!? Yet so often lack of realistic expectations remain! Admittedly I wondered if the woman in this episode was Ever?! going to stop whining about not being able to find one with a “Walk-in Closest!!” answer: NOPE! she kept it up, right to the very end of the show, with her last ‘sentence’..being yet another dig’ on no walk in closest! FFS! I mean, what a Travesty! I soooo ‘felt her pain/loss!! Not! LoL!😉

Hi Cheri and thanks for visiting our channel. I don't normally comment back on the House Hunters show but it's been enough time since the taping that I thought I would. House Hunters likes controversy. This was explained to us by the Director. If the show gets people talking about it (good or bad) they feel it's a success. Our show was very successful with lots of replays due in part to people talking about the walk in closets. Believe it or not, my wife only mentioned walk in closets once or twice. Through the magic of editing, they inserted it in many places. And ask her to say it again a few times. They knew that would create discussion. In fact, this is technically "staged reality" meaning we were already living in Ecuador 6 months before we started filming. We had to move all the furniture out of our apartment so it looked like it was empty. All that said, I realize how she came across in the show so your comments are fine. We absolutely knew what to expect when looking for an apartment. Having traveled to over 30 countries, we are very comfortable with not having everything we left in the US. And as an fyi... both our places we lived in Ecuador had walk in closets. :) Thanks!

@@RetireEarlyAndTravel I’m glad to know this.. however I am sorry to hear that you signed up for what they apparently added on to your search for a place to live.. I mean it is such totally unnecessary ‘drama’ .. especially when people are desirable of living in new locales/ wanting to experience new cultures, environments.. makes the show a hit.. not trying to turn it into yet another ‘forced drama puzzling to say the least. I’m somewhat surprised I’d even bothered to comment.. it’s not my usual, mostly post positive and encouraging words. I think bc there’s been an increase in what at least appears to be spoiled behaviours/ expectations.. it seems like it’s just starting to become like yet one more overdone ‘reality’ show.. anyway, glad you’re enjoying travel and things worked out!😉cheers from 🇨🇦👍

I think that he did not understand the "hot" water in the kitchen, that was a faucet for boiling water! Not common at all in a cheap apartment. Of course, all the kitchens have hot water, but the normal one that is not boiling. this one was boiling.
@RetireEarlyAndTravel5 жыл бұрын
Hi Roxana. Actually, they meant just normal hot water. I know what you are referring to about boiling water but that wasn't it. Living here for 3 years now, we realized that in Cuenca, we haven't met anyone who didn't have hot water in their kitchen. There are many bathrooms however that don't have hot water at the sink. Kieran, it's very safe here in Cuenca. We often walk home from events at night with never a problem or worry. Expat news gets around and we've never heard of anyone getting mugged or assaulted. I equate Cuenca to the US in the 50's. Little kids walk to school by themselves or take the public bus.

1000 dollars a month to live in Cuenca? There ain't shit to do there. Too many gringos there and they are taking advantage of that. How many people in Cuenca can afford 1000 dollars a month?! Even if you work in the gov you are only making 2800 before taxes. They are getting ripped off. I live in Quito and the prices are MUCH better. Plus you have things to do. Cuenca has nothing. You couldn't pay me 600 dollars a month to live there. Plus to fly out of the airport is super expensive. Living in Quito is better because at least you can fly to other places if you want.
@christopherdamico41825 жыл бұрын
By the way, never sign a 2 year contract. No one besides Americans are going to be able to afford that. You have the upper hand in the deal. The reason why you don't sign a 2 year contract is because in Ecuador the profits are always made in the "grey areas." For example, you can go to see a beautiful house and then sign the contract. Then when you move in you realize the guy next door has a pack of dogs that bark 17+ hours a day. Another situation might be that the sewage pipes were not done properly so the sewage smell backs up into the apartment. Another situation might be a mysterious humming noise from the electrical wiring. These are all common issues that I have had. You can never assume that you will have an "American experience" when renting an apartment. It is not like Ecuadorians are trying to take advantage it is just that many have no idea what you are expecting and these things may not bother them as much ( especially if they are paying 40% less than you are to rent the apartment). As an American renting an apartment you are paying an average of 40-60 % more. Keep in mind that you are bringing regular CASH to them with no strings attached. You have power in the deal more than someone else does. My recommendation would be to tell them that you will stay in the apartment for 1-2 nights to make sure everything is nice before you sign ANYTHING. Check everything including the electrical box to make sure the wires aren't crossed and that you will not be stuck with someone else's bill. Just some tips.

Sigh, they moved all the way to Ecuador and hardly a mention of bothering to learn Spanish. Alrighty then.

I was expecting it as I saw the ritual performed many times walking through town. The healers are actually pretty good at making it come out a fine mist. LOL

so unrealistic they were only renting and wanted unrealistic things for that country. If you want those extra items you need to BUY a home . Boring people.
