I just moved to Chiangmai recently and its definitely a buyer's market. I asked politely for about 30/40 % off the requested rental and a lease of 6 months as I may want to move elsewhere. Got a good bargain in Chang Pheuk for 6000 baht. Those places I enquired earlier and not willing to negotiate are still on the market and probably be vacant a long time unless owner willing to negotiate. There only 5 tenants in a 24 room compound and comes w a decent swimming pool too.

The first house would be like living on the set of a '90s teen sitcom lol. Kind of cool for those of us who grew up with them!
First home isn't a home it is a shop.... Shop house.... And It doesn't have windows in the middle of the building.... Totally Depressing environment. Crazy....Overpriced .... If someone wants to rent it he should first check if the other houses that are attached to it isn't or won't (impossible to know) be rented as a motorcycle repair shop or anything else noisy bussines.... Pass....

@@themountainwanderer Helpful tip: If you are planning on a move (temporary or otherwise) to Thailand, join expat Facebook groups in the city or region where you are planning to live. Get to know the "lay of the land" and see if there aren't some expats looking to rent out a portion of their home. This is what I did, and it was the BEST idea, in every way. My roommate had her space (downstairs), and I had MY space (upstairs). The cost for me was reduced substantially, and I had an instant contact for my initial months in Thailand.

Moving furniture up and down a spiral is a pita.
@MrDonkeyface23 жыл бұрын
One might say that the spiral direction it is so going up you can use your right hand on the rail, but the downside is that if you're trying to defend your property from invaders with a sword, you can only wield it effectively left handed whilst retreating into the (rocks and hot oil) upper level. I thought they had this sort of thing sorted already in the middle ages.
@somkit91023 жыл бұрын
Agree. Nothing wrong with spiral staircases, but this one is extremely and unnecessarily dangerous. Looking at 5:56 they could have easily increased it's radius by 50%. That would increase the length and width of each step. It would also look more impressive, in my opinion.

My mate had a massive new house in a gated community in the middle of Bangkok - right next to Phra Khanong BTS. Now the oil company his wife was working for was being ripped off, but the neighbours were paying the proper price, and (IIRC) it was something like 26,000. A huge house with a pool.

I think they're both probably overpriced, especially the first one that has no a/c. It looks more like a short-term rental for airbnb than a long-term rental. The second one is better, but commits you to driving everywhere. Probably for families whose kids attend one of the international schools, but for 40,000THB a month, you could get a much newer house. I don't think they'll rent these for these prices, especially now.

The 1st house I did not like at all. Only good for American college kids who wants to party and thrash the place. The 2nd house was much better! only one issue there: the very SMALL spiral staircase. I wouldn't be able to handle that! lol! but everything else looked very nice in that house. The prices were reasonable (before corona) for both properties, but now there are much cheaper options, about 30%-40% cheaper. Thanks for the video Chris, and I hope you will do this again in Chiang Mai, but with a different agent. She was lovely, but there are so many better condos around, and to show you what she did, it has not inspired me. In any case - Thank you Chris!
