As someone who grew up on Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter the names in the A Song of Ice and Fire series has never been an issue for me. Interesting names that kind of rhyme just seems standard sci-fi and fantasy stuff at this point.

Hitting on Hector's point about them streching out the show, they actually aren't doing that and actually can't do that. The Dance of the Dragons is a relatively small conflict that lasts only about two years from the time Viserys dies to a ruler is crowned. It is based on 1/3 of the book Fire and Blood and three short stories. Unlike GOT, which spans decades, several books and short stories and is left unfinished. The basis for House of the Dragons is a finished story. The first five episodes of this season cover the prologue of the story, which covers all the events in the first chapter of the story in Fire and Blood with some of the short stories mixed in to flesh some things outs. The story of the Dance of the Dragons spans about four chapters (give or take) of Fire and Blood (Prologue, Chapter 1, Chapter 2., Chapter 3. Aftermath). All of the season 1 covered the first chapter, most of the expanded material and a little bit of the second chapter sprinkled in. Season Two is looking to cover most of Chapter Two with a little of Chapter Three. And so on. At the most the show will last between 3-4 seasons depending on how much time they want to spend in the Aftermath portion of the story. The biggest complaint people have is that things seemed too rushed. However, after Game of Thrones (a story to this day remains unfinished) George RR Martin stepped in and took a more creative control of future projects. He acts as executive producer of House of the Dragon and is very much adamant that the story not divulge too much from whats in the books. This is why we had so many time jumps in the early part of the season. That's how it happened in the books, they weren't allowed to add to it. That's not to say they can't change things here or there, Laenor is a best example of this, while they can change details here and there to better flesh out the story, they cannot go around inventing things like they ddi on GOT. HBO has already greenlit another GOT-esque project The Hedge Knight, based on other A Song of Ice and Fire short stories. Martin has a lot of other material and ideas to adapt so they really don't need to stretch out any one project as there are plenty to fill up HBO line up for years to come.

All right, so now that war has been declared we have two factions, the Greens (Alicent and her family) and the Blacks (Rhaenyra and her family). This may help you keep track of who is related to who. *Team Green:* Alicent Hightower Targaryen; her father, Otto Hightower. Her children Aegon, Helaena (married to Aegon), Aemond (the eye patch guy), and Dareon (not yet seen and won't even be mentioned until season 2)...all of them are Targaryens. Aegon, btw, is only 19, and is her oldest child. Also on Alicent's side, Ser Criston Cole the Kingsguard, and Ser Larys Strong, aka The Clubfoot, who is the Master of Whispers (he's the guy into Alicent's feet). Ser Arryk Cargyll is the twin who stayed to serve the Hightower family. *Team Black:* Rhaenyra Targaryen, eldest child and the heir of the dead king; her husband, Daemon; her cousin , Princess Rhaenys Targaryen and Rhaenys's husband, Lord Corlys Velaryon. Rhaenyra's sons from her first marriage -- Jacaerys [Jace], Lucerys [Luke] (now deceased), and Joffrey [Joff]. Rhaenys and Corlys are their grandparents, in name at least. Rhaenyra's sons with Daemon, Aegon and Viserys. Daemon's daughters from his first marriage, Baela and Rhaena. Rhaenys and Corlys are their grandparents. Ser Erryk Cargyll is the twin who stole Viserys' crown and brought it to Dragonstone to give to Rhaenyra (since it is her father's crown and it was supposed to go to her to begin with). Yes, the Targaryen family tree is less a tree and more of circle...they are a lot like the Ancient Egyptians in that way, and even here in America the frequency of first-cousin marriage was a practice that had often been favored, especially by elites. It was all about keeping the blood pure and more often than that, keeping property/land/wealth in the family, particularly in cases where the woman inherited it; gotta find her someone in the family to marry our all that wealth will go to a rival family. [smh] Don't try to get into the weeds to untangle all the relationships. The easiest thing to do is take everyone but whatever current title they claim, i.e., Rhaenyra calls Daemon her husband, Rhaenys refers to Rhaenyra and Daemon's children (from their respective _first_ marriages) as her grandchildren, Jace refers to Baela as his future/betrothed wife. They are every one of them cousins in one way or another, by blood or marriage. Basically, everyone with white hair is related, and Rhaenyra's dark-haired boys are still related to the family, but only through ONE of their parents (making them the least inbred members of Team Black).

1. I think there's only going to be 3 seasons. 2. As everyone is saying, this literally taken from source material written by George RR Martin with a few changes. This show fulfills the peak GoT feelings I had before the dark times (when the directors didn't have source material.)
@pimtooler63703 ай бұрын
It's really not accurate to say that the show ran out of source material when by season 5 the show deviated so far from the books that there was possibly no way they could've course corrected themselves even to stay accurate to what happened in book 4 or 5. Many important characters in the books weren't properly introduced when they should've been in earlier seasons. I remember at one point GRRM stopped talking about the show entirely and posted about this other historical drama called The Last Kingdom probably because he felt that what the show became was no longer his story...
