The director of this episode said that Rhaenyra, Viserys and Daemon emerge out of episode 3 reborn with new perspective on who they are and what their purpose is. We saw Daemon hear that help is coming and he can finally take a breather, but instead he rows out on his own, feigns surrender, and like a coiled snake he strikes cutting down 16 men, kills the Crab Feeder and drags his corpse out showing off his new trophy!

After three years of war, that letter to Daemon is like Viserys telling him that he can't win the war without his brother's help. So, he rows out on his own, feigns surrender, strikes cutting down 16 men, and kills the Crab Feeder is his way of saying to Viserys "I don't need your help I can win this on my own."

@by that logic If you look closely, he looked and tried to hear the sound of dragon for a long while even after he surrendered and went on killing spree, before letting all the men out. Dragon only pops out after they were all out and he was surrounded. Also arrow thing can just be luck and in series they do show main character dodging a lot of arrow than side ones, like the side character might have dodged 10 arrow but thy will only show the one that hit. The biggest plot hole is how the army of Daemon crossed the sea and landed on island without the crabfeeder noticing.

I saw the Daemon scene completely differently yes he has pride but he is also embarrassed. This was a chance to prove himself to the entire kingdom and importantly his brother. Viserys understood that to some degree as well. But the fact was he was losing and his brother was coming to bail him out yet again showing further he is nothing, without his brother help and power. That’s what took him to the edge, he felt helpless and disappointed in himself and as Viserys said he would rather kill himself than accept help so he did the suicide mission which turned the entire war in his favour before Viserys came and bailed him out. Also yet again props to Matt Smith wonderful acting without saying a word Doctor Who actors really know how to portray their thoughts feeling and range of emotion all with subtleties of their face and body and Smith did that perfectly today. Despite the time jumps, they've done a good job implying what has happened during said time jumps. I also really like all of these characters so far, aside from Otto but that's by design. I really only latched onto the Stark family and then they dispersed them throughout the world and I missed that bond. House valeryon isn't "coming".. they came years ago. 2. rhanera being attacked by the hog, she's dead. She's a 17 year old girl, a wild hog is on top of her for a few seconds, that's more then enough time. She'd be dead. 3. hated rhaneras dialogue with alicent. So is this the 400th time alicent has stated the regretful circumstances of their relationship? Or is it the first and she just waited 3 years to say it. 4. Daemons plot armor and the grayscale thing. Dragging the crabfeeders body and having his blood all over you.. if Damon gets greyscale then ok. But if he doesn't then wtf? 5. The lannister guy wasn't interesting. Maybe he's supposed to be a tool, that's fine but its just not interesting and the first two episodes perhaps spoiled me with great acting. This lannisters acting wasn't impressive at all. 6. No crabfeeder death scene. 7. Rhanera was my favorite going into 3, now it's Damon by default. If her screen time is to be her pouting about the same thing endlessly this will get boring quick To me all this episode proved is that they cant properly develop characters with chunks of years missing here or there. You have to fill in the gaps with your imagination to some extent. Yet when the next episode starts, you hear dialogue that you would have expected to occur already, but because of the time jump they re hash it out for The sake of the audience. It makes it seem very fan fare, with disingenuous-ly timed dialogue.

exactly, what is interesting remember in GOT when Aemon said a Targaryen alone in the world is terrible thing, by marrying Alicent he made himself lonely, he is not connected to the Hightower's because they have their own agenda, and all of the other lords are trying their best to get a piece of the cake, by compromising too much with the rest of them, he made himself vulnerable. There is a reason why the targayens kept it close to the family, so that things like this didn't happen. If vicerys had just waited 2 - 3 years with Laena, he wouldn't of been in this position, but he was ruled by his emotions. The Targaryens should have been stricter with their own customs in order to maintain power, they have to accept the harsh truth that they can't be like everyone else, they can never be like everyone else, the image of them being like Gods had to be maintained in order to keep order in the realm, this was their downfall. Jahearys made a huge mistake by allowing the council and the realm pick Viserys in the first place.

I think the time jumps are done really well as they are realistic. The thing I hated about the last two seasons of game of thrones, especially as a book reader is how quick they jumped from important event to important event. In real life and in a well told story, those things take time. Daemon and Corlys taking the fight to the step stones and the crab feeder would not happen overnight. It would take a lot of time and careful planning. And that’s realistic to real life. Most peoples lives arent jam packed with action day to day.

@@Usthereout It seems to be that way. There haven't been any without a pretty strong Targaryen connection. However, not many non-Targeyen's have tried. In the books, a Dornish Prince goes down to Dany's caged dragons in Mereen, thinking he can befriend them to get in Dany's good books, but he just get's roasted. I loved the scene where Viserys was explaining that for him at least the gift of Prophecy was greater than being a Dragon rider… and how he had had the dream of a Crowned male heir. He questions whether he had shown a lack of Faith in the fulfilment of it by naming Rhaenyra as his heir… only to have son to Allicent… which he ironically bemoans he could never have forseen.

I love how Daemon just swaggered out of that cave with a half Crab-feeder, even without a hint of a limp, despite the fact that just a few minutes earlier he had had an arrow lodged into his knee or meniscus, which..........in most cases would mean you'd never walk straight again in your life or probably never at all.
@majorianus80552 жыл бұрын
Well the abgle, the distance, the wind, and the arrow quality can affect the penetration of the arrow. And im bot sure, but it seems he did have a mail or leather protection inside there. Its common enough for knights.
@Cbricklyne2 жыл бұрын
@@majorianus8055 The arrows got in deep enough that he had to break them off at the shafts to be able to move somewhat normally again, when the barbed heads still jammed inside him. And arrow getting that deep into your joints (let lone a complex joint like the knee) means you probably can't move that particular limb very effectively (especially if there's still a part of it jammed in), let alone carry your whole body weight, or half of it on it, ....all while dragging half of another person. Not to mention he was fine enough to RUN into the cave after the crab-feeder and then presumably fight him on at least a leg and a half and win. But it's okay. I get why they did it. It looks cool, and I liked it. (.....despite all that, which I just found funny. That's all)

Viserys has a good heart. And as much as he has a good heart, he's dumb and naive. Daemon is right, he's not good at being King. He doesn't have a strong presence, and a deep voice even amongst his own men. They all see his weaknesses and waiting for a chance to feed on his corpse. In the other hand, Daemon is strong and consistent. And he doesn't rely on anyone but himself. You saw when he received the letter his ego got bruised and he immediately ended the war all by himself.

The Velaryons were not a dragon riding family, but can still bond with an egg and learn to ride if properly trained. The suggestion is likely that Corlys was gifted an egg upon either his marriage to Rhaenys, or when he was named Master of Tides (the Admiral of the Royal Navy, known in GoT as the Master of Ships) and to the Small Council. So Laenor is a rider, but his family is generally not.

Otto 💚 (love his scheming and insults!) 5. Viserys (Paddy and Milly with the best acting) 6. Alicent 💚 7. Rhaenys 🖤 8. Laenor 🖤 9. Criston 💚 10. Laena 🖤 These are my updated weekly rankings. I don't see anybody catching Daemon at #1. He's like Top Gun: Maverick. I don't think we'll see a better movie than that one for the rest of the year. The big movers this week have been Corlys and Alicent. I really like Corlys the more episodes we see of him. For him to defend Daemon against his own brother showed some real loyalty. Maybe Alicent really isn't that evil? That the only reason she's in this situation is because of her pimp daddy? She was supporting Rhaenyra to be Queen which surprised me. It seems Rhaenyra is the one slowly turning into the dark side. Did you see how she killed that wild boar 🐗? She went to town with it like her uncle did at the Step Stones. Basically dyed her hair red from the boar's blood stains. Laenor is a new addition to my top 10. Had to move his sister down to 10th since we've only seen her for like 2 minutes so far. But Laena will eventually move up once we start seeing older versions of her. Props to Paddy Considine and Milly Alcock. While Matt Smith's Daemon has been awesome, Paddy and Milly have really carried this series with their performances. No wonder Paddy gets first billing in the intro. He's been fantastic in all 3 episodes. Emma D'Arcy better bring her A-game by mid-season because Milly is killing it.

Caraxes doesn’t scream because he’s being pierced t the fire arrows, they have no effect on dragonscale, he is screaming because daemon was hit in the shoulder. Dragons are bound to Valyrians (the Targaryen dragons, the last dragons, bound to the Targaryens) by blood magic. This is where the Valyrian tradition of sibling marriage comes from. to keep the Valyrian blood pure to keep control of the dragons. Because dragons are bound through blood magic to the Valyrian they are bonded with, the dragon also feels the same pain. This is why Syrah screams during Rhaenyra’s childbirth and why Vhagar hesitates excessively before burning Laena EDIT: Rhaenyra is 18 in this episode EDIT: Viserys wasn’t mislead by dreams. He had Dragon Dreams or what we would call visions. He would see things that would happen. However Viserys misinterpreted the meaning of these dreams

House Velayreon is descended from the survivors of a house arguably greater than Targaryens back in Valyria but unlike Targaryens who shifted the entire house along with their 5 dragons due to dragon dream by the lords daughter, they didn't and became essentially a branch house of Targaryens, frequently intermarrying them. There is also a lesser third Valyrian house, located on a small island much further away than Driftmark(House Velayreon) from Dragonstone, called house Celtigar which has a Crab as their sigil (bastard connection to crab feeder perhaps?). All Valyrians can ride dragons but only house Targaryen owns them, all of King Jeharys and Queen Alysane's grandchildren were given one dragon egg in their cradle (that is why Queen Aemma was a Dragonrider) and it seems at least the sons of princesses are given one as well or more likely that Leanor Velayreon was born while his mother was still in line to the throne but his sister Laena was born after Viserys became king, disinheriting the daughter of the king's cousin from a dragon egg (property of the crown/house Targaryen). Colys isn't literally the second son, he is lord of his house which became a second son next to Targaryens when they conquered the majority of westeros (and later when his house didn't get the throne). He personally made his house great mostly by his own efforts like a second son would mostly make his station by his own. Otto Hightower is also a second son and he aiming to become the grandfather and puppet master of a King (the King is almost his puppet as well, mostly throw his efforts). A lord of House Celtigar would later do the same as lord Corlys but his house was probably very diluted in Valyrian blood by that time unlike house Velayreon.
