In the books Aegon and Sunfyre had literally one of the closest bonds of all dragon riders who ever existed.. Poor boy, poor dragons don't deserves all this family drama. Honestly, this season is owned by Tom Glynn-Carney. Even when Aegon was powerless in the small council scene, he totally owned the scene. It’s bizarre because the writers clearly want the audience to like Team Black more than Green, but they made the Greens way more interesting to watch. Rhaenyra spends basically all her screen time wringing her hands and being indecisive, Daemon is off having a tantrum in the middle of nowhere and doesn’t have much character beyond “I’m angry”, and Rhaenys kind of just stands around looking smug/condescending. (except for the showdown ofc, RIP Meleys and Rhaenys)

The directing is ambigious. Aemond goes there with a sword in hand but when he reaches the dragon, sheathes it. Cole spots Aemond with his sword (looking like he was unsheathing it, which is a huge misdirection) and yells at him to stop. The writing on the other hand is obvious. Aemond obviously does not find value in his brother being alive. He goes there to finish the job. Sees the knife on the ground. Decides to slay Aegon WITH the knife so he sheathes his sword. This is when Cole yells at him, he looks back thinking "fuck" then plays with the monarch daggar while Cole has a breakdown.

In the books, Rhaenys knew she was going to die but fought on, she did her best to do as much damage to both Sunfyre and Vhagar to protect her house. She knew Baela and Rhaenyra would eventually have to deal with these dragons. In the end, her death was not in vain because she handicaps Aegon and Sunfyre for most of the dance. In the show, Aemond is the one that does that because of the whole bullying storyline, but in the books, that was all Meleys

The saddest thing is that people hate the character of Christon Cole (the kingmaker), and the reason is the book of the series, because in all honesty he is considered a great force for the Greens, an army commander, a brave military planner, and his role is no less important than the dragons in war. Rhaenys could litteraly end the war here. That's why she stayed. The 5 biggest threats of Team Green are here : Aemond/Vhagar, Criston Cole, and Aegon/Sunfyre. Aegon/Sunfyre were out, and she was doing well against Vhagar, putting her down against all odds. It was her duty to try. A success would have given the victory to Team Black. If Vhagar (or at least Aemond) and Sunfyre were both killed, the Greens would only have two dragons left : Tessarion and Dreamfyre. Dreamfyre is not a warrior/fighting type (like Syrax), and Tessarion is still young and too tiny to beat a dragon like Caraxes.

I loved Rhaenys, but she did this to herself. Meleys is at least twice as fast and maneuverable as Vhagar, riding her anywhere near where Vhagar could ambush her instead of staying constantly out of reach was a rookie mistake worthy of Luke. Not to mention the fact that the battle was done, the army was annihilated, there was no reason at all for her to hang around loitering. Either she was stupid or the writers were.

I'm glad he lived so he can face the aftermath of his stupidity. aemond was back to being cruel and vengeful. and I honestly felt kind of bad for aegon. he's not a good guy but I think its mostly from the way he was raised. and no one is takinghim seriously or including him, just leaving him as a figurehead and not letting him do anything. his mothers lecture, though perhaps somewhat true, was so harsh. she clearly has no love for him. he just wanted to go prove he could do something. his dragon was beautiful too. and if they had included him in the plans like they should include the king then he would have known what was going to happen and maybe he wouldn't have gotten hurt. the scene with rheanys and alyn was so awkward. its like hmm the woman my husband cheated on me with must have been hot if you turned out like this. but it was big of her to tell her husband to legitimize him. she was so wise and controlled and classy. i really liked her, she was one of my top characters, and I'm so sad she died. but she went out really fighting and going for it. the look on her dragons face broke my heart.
