It's worth remembering that there's no internet or photographs in this age. The common folk have most likely never seen the princess before, certainly not up close (perhaps in the distance at a tournament). It would be relatively easy to hide among the common folk, as long as they don't see the hair. But the knight there recognised her, he will have seen her up close plenty of times.

Exactly. They'd have no chance to ever see the royals, unless in a grand procession, which happens maybe once when the new king is crowned or wed or has his first son. Even the Red Keep guards didnt recognize Arya in GoT S1 because she was wearing dirtied clothes. That's why clothing is so important then, it really signified your social rank, status, family, etc (colors, fabrics, insignias etc)

we all need to remember that every time Viserys extends a hand to daemon he let him down: he literally just forgave him and he took his daughter to a god damn brothel and he believes he also defiled her, all to force him to let Daemon marry her/to fuck with him. Viserys said so himself "i spent a lifetime defending you" this is probably the 56th time this happened. Honestly, Viserys is not an idiot, he is in fact quit clever but tired of all this Bull and his trying to hold it all from falling apart with a loose cannon like Daemon, a rebellious daughter like Rhaenyra and a Snake like Otto im supprised things did not fall apart already.

Rhaenyra had puffy red eyes from crying when she got back to her room. Daemon left her emotionally upset and very, well, aroused. She decided to take out her frustration by seducing Criston, and it made her feel giddy to get back at Daemon using Criston as a rebound. And Daemon stopped while they were still in foreplay. They were using their hands and he had just gotten her pants down. It’s also a VERY bad thing for Criston to sleep with Rhaenyra. He swore a vow of celibacy as a Kingsguard. Sleeping with a woman is grounds to have his cloak stripped from his shoulders, sleeping with the Princess is grounds for EXECUTION. If anyone ever finds out Rhaenyra pressured him into breaking his vows, Criston will at minimum lose EVERYTHING he’s ever worked for, and is more likely to lose his life as well.

Daemon removed her hair covering, he wanted to expose her to rumors, to make it easier to let Viserys wed her to him, but he somehow couldnt go all the way- the showrunners said he couldnt get it up. I think theyre using virility and ferility as marker of moral purity, and Daemon with his wicked whims just isnt up to bat right now. I feel bad for Cristin, but also so disappointed in him. He gave a pity attemot to stop, and then folded like a chair. But Rhaenyra was so calous with doing this. She can survive the controversy, but Cristin could lose his head by sleeping with her. She's being so reckless and letting her emotions lead her instead of using this time to consolidate her power and claim to the throne.

The whole "she wasn't submissive" thing was said by the director of the episode and just her interpretation of the scene in my opinion. The writer said about him knowing he was doing the "wrong thing". So we can assume it can be a mix of the two. Although, I would have appreciated if they mentioned it's their interpretation and not influencing everyone else opinion o the matter.

A little bit of lore background: the Brackens and the Blackwood have had beef for centuries, probably more they both are descendants of the first men. A Blackwood killing a Bracken at a courtship is from the books and that has happened many times in the past. Their hatred for each other is well known in the seven kingdoms.

The Targaryens interbreeding is a common thing in their culture, so that is a part of why she isn't too bothered by Daemon pursuing her. Another thing they don't really explore it too much in the tv show, but at least in the books it's more explored that she had a crush on Daemon for a long time, so that is also apart of why it isn't much of a traumatizing thing. Also, in the brothel, it was all foreplay, they didn't actually do anything beyond that. The reason she pursued Criston Cole, is like you guessed, she was still a bit horny, and Daemon had awoken something in her. The idea that sex can be for pleasure and not just duty and marriage stuff. In the past few episodes, there was a bit of minor tension between the two (Criston and Rhaenyra), obviously the show is moving a bit fast, but it isn't that surprising that she would want him. There is a video that the Game of Thrones KZbin channel posted about this episode that the creators and actors explain a lot this. It's titled: "House of the Dragon | S1 EP4: Inside the Episode (HBO)". I also don't know why you were mad at Viserys this episode. A lot his reasoning for being mad at Daemon makes sense. The TV show didn't seem to bring it up yet, but there was a whole conflict with the Faith of the Seven and a Faith militant uprising that made it outlawed for even the Targaryens to practice polygamy. Daemon didn't really deny to having slept with her, and doing that while she's in the process of seeking out getting married by Lords across the Kingdom that would be understandable why Viserys would be mad at Daemon for doing that. Honestly, Leanor Velaryon is the best match, seeing as he, himself was influential in the war with the Crab King, is a dragon rider himself, family has very close ties to the Targaryens, is more closer to her age, and is heir to the richest family in the realm. Sorry for the long run-on paragraph.

We gathered all of that from watching the last few episodes and from just understanding the universe, all except the part about the faith militant. Since we haven’t read the books, we wouldn’t be expected to know that aspect of the history. Laenor is a very good match. But if Daemon is likely to start a war out of bitterness toward his brother, as has been hinted at throughout this series, another peaceful option would be to wed Rhaenyra and Daemon, and then wed a Valaryon next. Not as good of a political option, obviously, but if they are in love and invest is the Targaryen way, then it’s not so far out of the realm of possibility. That is, if you’re like us and don’t know anything about the Faith Militant’s involvement in this story, since it this far has not been communicated in the show.

I think he couldn't follow through with his plan because he sees the look of genuine love that she gives him. and couldn't bring himself to use her. which inevitably didn't matter because everyone thought they banged anyway. and that was his plan. Whats odd is the writers said he couldn't do it because of impotence. but if impotence means he couldn't get it up then it doesnt make sense. . it doesnt matter if he couldn't get it up cuz his plan was to ruin her reputation. but instead he abandons his plan completely simply cuz he couldn't get up? doubtful.

Not going to lie, Viserys is my favorite character so far. People are shitting on his style of ruling(or lack there of), but his style makes the most sense to me. The kinds throughout history that i.possed their will on the populace and did whatever they wanted usually didn't last long. The truth about a king is literally balancing what everyone wants, it's rarely about what you want, unless you want to be a tyrant. Not saying he does everything right, but I do appreciate his approach more than most kings on television. Also, I haven't read the books, but pretty sure this is looking like it'll end in a civil war cause of the two siblings. Rhaeneyra was told last episode that she needs to spend her time consolidating her claim and she doesn't seem to want to do that.. which is valid. But why does she want to be queen then? This is just going to make everyone think she's more like Daemon and we all know how everyone in the kingdom feel about him being king. Despite this, Viserys will probably keep his word. I don't think he gave that lightly. So, the only other choice will probably be Aegon. Whose too young to do anything that'll make the realm feel like he's not as bad, plus yeah, he's a boy. I wanted Rheaneyra to be queen, but her approach has been downright awful so far. I'm not saying she shouldn't be allowed to sleep around. But that's kind of all she's done since she was told to consolidate her claim. Which is even more important due to the fact she's a woman in this time period. If she marries Daemon I think it's wartime when Viserys dies. The realm already fears him and her marrying him will make them think she's even more like him. Sides will be taken and oof. That'll be a hell of a thing. Wow this was longer than I expected.

We are on the exact same page with everything. We’ve given Viserys a lot of shit the last 2 eps, but we really do love him as well. It’s just hard not to be frustrated by some of his more fatal flaws. He puts things off, ignores serious problems, and due to his genuine empathy, he is easily manipulated. It’s his weakness and his strength, his heart in conflict with itself so to speak. I think he deserves his fair share of shit from us, but so do the others.

@@BOLDcast I think that criticism is appropriate due to the fact he's a king and needs to be held to that higher standard. His decisions will have tremors for decades. However, when I feel miffed by his lack of decisiveness, I always think of his introductory scene when he is named the successor and his face says it all. He did not want to be king at all. I don't think this is an excuse to his shortcomings, but it does give me perspective. Especially when he genuinely tries to be a good king, because I'm pretty sure that's his aim. I also think that it must be terrifying to him that he's dying(that's scary enough, rotting flesh) and none of his potential heirs seem to be ready/even want to be in power. He probably sees the writing on the wall that the realm could tear itself apart and that he will probably pass away soon without a consolidated heir. Sure, some of that might be his fault. For example, naming Rhaeneyra heir from a young age. But now that they are all adults, I think a lot of the blame can be shared. Personally, I think another bad decision on his part was promise her that she would never be supplanted. I'm not sure she even wants to be queen anymore. She hasn't been proactive with it. Maybe that'll change. Hopefully it does. But I think he should have remained flexible with his choice of heir as something to earn rather than to inherit. Daemon's character made him unfit, alright, fair. Rhaeneyra hasn't done much except be a bit more willed, that honestly isn't enough, she was told to consolidate her claim. I want to see her do that and if she doesn't, then maybe the crown isn't for her. And Aeagon is still in diapers, so he can still be a terrible or good king. In short, I'm not sold on anyone being heir yet, I can understand Viserys frustration. I hope to see one of the three consolidate their claims, so that I can actually root for one of the heirs. I know I'm long-winded haha. My bad.

Unfortunately the two hope he had is a chaotic brother and a bratty daughter, notice he only mention his son from Alicen as "Hightower blood" ?. Having your favorite character in Daemon doesn't mean automatically making everything he does or says right. I'm on Viserys' side in this case. What should I do? Thank him for taking my daughter to a brothel, trying to f*** her and then asking me to marry her? All this after years of not showing up and casually showing up when she has to choose her husband. If he marries Rhaenyra he would become the husband of the heir to the throne and he would gain power. In this case he too conspires as much as Ser Otto. (sorry my english is very bad)

In Damon's position, it would be easier to kill his wife and then come to Viserys with a marriage proposal. And not after he dragged his daughter into the city and left her on the street without guards, where she could easily be killed or raped. What if a drunken group attacked them, killed Damon and then raped the heir to the throne? So it was stupidity on Damon's part, he endangered his life and the life of his niece and would surely do it again.Viserys is not the best king, but he isn't the worst of the Targaryens.He's not a manipulative genius like Otto, but he's not an idiot either.He has reasons to keep his brother away from the throne and away from his daughter.

31:08 Yessss! that was literally the whole point of all this effort from Viserys to save the throne from Daemon because he believes that Daemon do not care about anything but power we saw his attitude in the last episode that he would rather do a suicide mission than accept help from his brother. Also, since this is also inspired from real life medievel times and keeping in mind that both of them are quite unpopular among their people, a rumor about the future queen coupling in whore house with her uncle would be devastating for the support from people and can easily allow rebel factions to take advantage. Politics is not easy if Rhaeneyra really wants to be Queen she needs to understand this complications we will see how this actions will come back to haunt her in the future. Also I personally think removing Otto as hand was a mistake as they keep your enemies closer once king found out about Otto he should have kept him close in order to keep an eye on him but now he can easily raise a group of powerful lords to be a strong opposition to Princess Rhaeneyra claim to the throne without anyone's notice.

While I do think Rhaenyra and Daemon would be great Targaryen match but can we really blame Viserys? Especially in this episode? Daemon is a great complex character and we can see that he loves his family but he really has his own hypocrite parts too. He argued back with Viserys in 1st episode for not giving him much attention as a brother but here he finally had a chance to mend with Viserys. While we can see that his ultimate goal might’ve been to get rid of Otto but in the end he did decide to use his already weak powered niece. If he wanted to marry Rhaenyra, he just needed to say so to either Rhaenyra herself or Viserys but the fact that he put her in situation (since she’s a girl) where her virtues would be blamed since she get it on with her MARRIED uncle. The court people are already trying to find faults in her. In this world taking in 2nd wife is not allowed. He can’t divorce his wife unless it’s proven that she can’t bear child and if she dies cause divorcing your wife is making an enemy out of a whole house from where she comes. The Targaryens are already going through a lot politically, they can’t care to make more troubles. In Viserys’ eyes Daemon really proved his incompetence the wrong way and without excuse. All in all great episode. I think I like Viserys the best in this episode cause at least he is thinking of solutions and methods in this movie while Rhaenyra is the one who acted reckless instead when she should be taking advantage of this time period and establish her ways in the court.

R is my fav character in the show but I found her a little annoying in this ep bcoz she's like a spoiled brat in this ep. R and V had the talk at the end of last ep that she was going to marry someone of her choosing for duty's sake and then we find that she has been rejecting everyone many of them without even meeting them. She also says at the end of this ep that "men can father 12 bastards" but how is she going to "father" kids?? Thats a stupid line.

True She says she wants to be queen but rejects the idea of having children, which, regardless of gender, is a basic requirement of being a monarch. There’s zero way around it. Yeah she, like every other character has some pretty blatant flaws. I’m glad that not even the spunky main heroine is considered perfect and beyond criticism by the writers, cause it would have been so easy to make her the perfect “Yass queen” type of protagonist. But stuff like her being unreasonable and imperfect make her human and a good character.

I apologize if someone has already commented on this but it's important story-wise. Daemon and Rhaenyra did not have sex. Daemon became impotent (a recurring problem apparently) when Rhaenyra took control of the situation. The writers discuss it during the 'Inside the Episode' segment.

In that case any of her cousin can take the place after she’s done with her reign. We have Queen Elizabeth as an example. The Tudor line ends on her but then there were also the Stuart. Even if Rhaenyra was planning to live a solitary life as Queen, there was Daemon and his possible future kids, Rhaenys and Leaner who have Targaryen bloods and are riders themselves.

Don't think Daemon and Rhaenerya actually had sex. He just pushed her to the brink and then backed off. This is all part of his ploy to push the King to marry her to his allies son. Also, in all the years Daemon has been having sex, he has not Fathered a single child...hummmm.... he might very well have backed away from his Niece because he has issues in the bedroom...but more likely, because he had already done what he wanted , which was to disgrace his Niece and force the King's hand to marry her off. If she were to end up pregnant, it would be Cole's and after marrying The Sea Snake's son... try explaining a dark haired child. Also... in a possible outcome, if Otto did send the tea instead of the King....it might not kill her..but what if it prevents her from ever becoming pregnant, then Otto only strengthens his grandson's claim to the throne.
