Hugh’s mother wasn’t a Targaryen bastard, she was Saera Targaryen, she was banished by jaehaerys for sleeping around too much and being rebellious. That’s why his mom would tell him, he is no different than Baelons kids. I doubt she would say that if she was a bastard too. I think that’s also why Hugh walks and moves so regal and Stoic. She probably raised him to stand tall as viserys or daemon would. 😊

I don't think Ulf broke an egg [they are almost stone-like and need super amounts of consistent heat just to incubate them]. I think he stood on an incubating egg sac instead; also we can see intact eggs inside the egg sac. Furthermore, we see the effort Daemon went to to break an egg sac in a cave to procure dragon eggs in season 1.

I really liked how this episode emphasized how the dragons have agency and aren't just beasts "controlled" by their riders which is something Viserys alluded to in season 1 when talking to Raenyra. Addam being Laenor's brother it makes sense why Seasmoke would seek him out & choose him since genetically he's so similar.

But due to the fact that they are also from old Valyrian ancestry, when the Targaryen took the throne and had to look for marriages if there were not enough Targaryen women in the direct line to marry all of the males. Or if there were too many females which has intermingled dragon riding blood in the descendants of the driftwood throne by the time of the dance. Alyssa Velaryon was married to aenys I and the only reason that maegor couldn’t wipe out the rest of the targaryens, as she hid the future king from his reach. Also stealing blackfyre from him when she left the keep in the night. Driftmark were Targaryen vassals and they would’ve rather married their kin off to house Velaryon as the blood of old Valyria, even if they were seafarers and not dragon lords, because they were seen as elevated status wise from all other houses in Westeros that was not blood of old Valyria. so well without the Targaryen marriages into house Velaryon (pretty much right after the conquest, aenys I married Alyssa Velaryon , who hid the young child that would one day become king jaehaerys,) so they are known for intermarrying specifically to that house to keep the blood of Valyria strong and to keep the precedence set that even seafarers with the blood of old Valyria was better than other lords. This didn’t change until right around the dance.

@27:13 I disagree I think this was a sanctioned flight because the dragon is wearing a saddle. Prior to Ulf, she had been without a rider for ages. I doubt she had a saddle on that whole time. I think that after she and Ulf matched up, Rhaenyra or maybe one of the dragon keepers (they could have come back, maybe) put a saddle on the dragon so that he could safely ride her. Silverwing had been without a rider for years and I don't see a dragon having a saddle on her back for years without a rider. Also I think the flight was sanctioned because Rhaenyra wanted to send a message.

If you go back and watch, Silverwing was wearing a saddle already in the dragon pit. But I agree that that flight was intentional, otherwise they wouldn't have been lined up ready for action had Aemond not skedaddled.

Likely they also thought if Aemond follows on his dragon we may be able to lure him back and defeat him with our three. He was smart enough to back off though. It was a win win situation for them as they saw it. Best case scenario is Aemond follows and they manage to gang up and kill Vhagar then war basically over. If that doesn't happen then they at least show the Green's their new arsenal. As shown, whispers get back so unlikely they can keep the new dragon riders as secret so might as well show their new might.

But at the very least she wanted to show off her new strength as a way of saying this war isn’t gonna be as easy to win as you greens thought

I think Rhaena is Nettles in the show, she will tame Sheepstealer and take the name Nettles to cover up the fact that she's joyriding a dragon instead of raising Rhaenyra's children in Pentos. The books remark on the odd, "father/daughter" relationship between Damon and Nettles. I can see Damon being changed by his time in Harrenhall and finally becoming a good father.

My favorite part was how much they took the fans annoyance with rapid cuts to mind. The last season of GoT had so many impossible situations that they just cut away from and then something happened off screen to save the main character, and the GoT fight scenes themselves were cut to action confetti. That long “one-er” in this HoTD episode with the seamless hidden cuts felt like a lover letter to the fans. It was an amazing technological feat and took so much work to execute, but, gods, was the final product worth it.

I get his fear to be challeged in the future but he is literally Rhanera's eldest son, her heir. The low born bastards have bigger dragons but they're not the Queens eldest son nor her heir.
