Ok so House Of The Dragon Episode 7 set up the seeds of war that episode 8 seems to be delivering on. Having read the source material I know there's some big things coming that we're gonna be breaking down in this video. We'll play the teaser in just a bit but it's important to bear in mind that this has another major time jump in it that is likely going to take us to the year 129 AC. This is a major year in the fire and blood storyline in which a major character dies so if you don't want any spoilers then I suggest you turn off now. With that out the way, thanks for clicking this, now let's get into the trailer.

Ok so if we're right about this being 129 AC then that would mean we've had an almost ten year time jump to the year of Viscerys death.
Though his voiceover appears in the teaser he's likely gravely ill at this point and this explains why Otto Hightower is doing the talking for him. Otto obviously has his own goals in mind and thus it's impossible to even say if what he's saying is what Viserys wants.
He says that he is the Kings voice and that he speaks on what he wants and all other matters.
What Otto wants though is his grandchild Aegon on the throne at all costs. This pushes Daemon and Rhaenyra away who end up going to Dragonstone in order to get away from the kingdom. I'll talk about how this is a big mistake later on in the video but it's all a play by Otto who now rules the realm. This is shown by the fact that he stands in front of the throne and at points even looks like he's sat in it. Though it was common for the Hand to do this he's clearly now in charge of the realm. It'll be interesting to see if he gets cut or not and if he doesnt then it might indicate that the Hightowers are in charge in the eyes of the throne.
Elsewhere we see that Alicent is now in Viserys seat on the council too showing how she has taken over it all.

Rhaenyra's selfishness and decadence destroyed the House of the Dragon. She is the one passing off bastards as heirs, almost all the drama happening right now is a direct result of Rhaenyra's selfish actions in the past. Alicent would still be suppoeting Rhaenyra if she just had acted like a responsible heir to the throne, instead of a spoiled you know what.

Lol this shows you the problem of a catchy one-liner 😂. If anyone actually checked the Targaryen family tree, they’d realize it never was a 50% chance of madness, they had a lot of average and normal family members. Even Mad King Aerys wasn’t 100% Targaryen, he was half-Blackwood! Targs have some kind of blood magic that prevents their inbred bloodlines from genetic collapse, otherwise they’d be A LOT grosser looking and barely functional with the amount of inbreeding they do. Heck, the Valyrians in old Valyria literally inbreed for this unwinds of years, of course they figured out how to eliminate genetic and mental defects from expressing themselves. The madness issue only really started coming in cos the Targs branched out into other Houses, but then brought those bloodlines back in and started the incest again, like Alicent with her half-Hightower children. Those non-Valyrian bloodlines aren’t protected by the Valyrian blood magic, inbreeding effects started getting expressed cos the Valyrian blood got diluted. Result is you have a half-Targ like Aerys who goes mad (but not immediately as well, he basically had a mental illness later in life).

Videos like these really go a long way in making the week between episodes manageable 😊 I still think there’s a decent chance we get to see Daeron in the show maybe starting next season. People have pointed out that in the intro it looks like 4 lines of blood run from Alicent’s symbol. They might just not want to overwhelm people on kids this season when others don’t play a huge part until the war starts. We’re definitely going to need war storylines from the ground Robb Stark-style to save on budget and to take breaks from expensive dragon shots

I have thought with certainty that every episode the king was going to die at the end of the episode and he’s still here. I enjoy the comments saying that Viserys should've done this or that. Then we would not have a show and Viserys wouldn't be one of the causes of the civil war. The entire series is meant to characterize that he has all the agency and cannot use it even though he's a man and the King. In contrast, Rhaenyra and Alicent wield power, but are just females. It's their rivalry that sets the entire war in motion. Along with many other things like the Lords of Westeros refusing a female leader to the point they commit treason and go back on the vows they or their fathers made.

No king has ever done that. There are people who renounce their claim before becoming king, but nobody has ever just abdicated once becoming king. They just give all the power to the Hand until they die.

It would probably be better for Viserys to cut his losses and disinherit Rhaenyra while he still can. She had her chance and she blew it completely. Because of her placing bastards in the line of succession, civil war is now effectively guaranteed. Even if everyone were to accept Rhaenyra herself as queen and her own ascension was completely peaceful, civil war would still erupt immediately after her death, because her eldest son is illegitimate and has no legal claim to the throne, while her half-brothers do have a claim. In fact, there might even erupt a civil war between Rhaenyra's sons Jace and Aegon at that point, because Aegon is her oldest trueborn son and has a better claim. So even if Alicent's children hadn't existed in the first place, the realm would still burn because of Rhaenyra's actions. The only way out for Viserys now is to swallow his pride and cut off Rhaenyra's line and its future bastard claimants from the royal line of succession entirely. But he won't do that, because he obviously still loves his daughter despite everything.

I wish Rhenaerya would emphasize more that Alicent’s sons are her BROTHERS. They are so divided yet they are her family and if she worked on building that connection with them, it could have prevented so much of this between them. They are team green but reality is they are such as much black.

We don't know which of the brothers was tallest from the books, onle that Aegon was bigger as a baby (but Aemond was more spirited). The showrunners have probably decided to make Aemond taller than Aegon to reflect their personalities. Aemond is much more of a warrior and leader, Aegon is more cunning (think Joffery 2.0).

@@empac8631It is probably because Aemond in now taller that it makes it seem like they have gone for a smaller actor for the older Aegon. But Ty Tennant (younger Aegon) and Tom Glynn-Carney (older Aegon) are the same height.

@@jamesdanby1540 that’s what I assume too, also this actor seems to be giving a bit of hunch to portray the years of being a drunk entitled prince has made Aegon where Aemond, someone who wishes to strive to be a fierce warrior and understands the war that is coming, is almost standing straight up at attention. When you look at the scene where they’re discussing Aegon marrying his sister, he’s all slouched over without a care in the world enjoying being a prince, where Aemond is standing straight up, hands behind his back talking about how he’d fufill his duty gladly if he were in his position

I think it's in this episode, in that shot he was in the throne room and in the trailer Otto, Alicent and kids looks at something or someone with a surprised face, I think Viserys gets up from his bed and comes to the throne room while Otto is sitting in throne, it is surprising because he is not in a well position

I’ve always felt it’s stupid how they shove 8 or 9 episodes down our throat’s week to week for a few months, then make us sit around for 2 years waiting on the next season (which they’ve announced will be 2024). Why not space them out so they’re around a month or so apart, that would at least give us something to look forward to for a year or so?

She wasn't raging about uncle and niece getting married. She was upset about them having sex outside of marriage in a pleasure house. That's a significant difference. Marriage between relatives was common in this world. Ned's parents were cousins. Tywin was married to his cousin. However, the heir to the throne potentially getting pregnant outside of marriage is a potentially huge problem. There is a stigma against bastards in Westeros.

@@PreciousMe no, she made the comment about them "fucking in a pleasure house". Rewatch the conversation. They were not discussing marriage. At that point in the story, Alicent still supported Rhaenrya's claim. So had anyone suggested a marriage between Daemon and Rhaenrya, she likely would have been in favor since it would have strengthen Rhaenrya's claim. It's important to note that the Faith of the Seven was more upset about Targaryen polygamy than it was about "incest". The former was not common in Westeros while the latter was. Also note that when Daemon brought it up to Viserys, his response wasn't "she's your niece ". It was "you're already married". Likewise, when Otto suggested marrying Rhaenrya and Aegon, Viserys didn't say, no, they're siblings. He said no, he's 2.
