Vhagar being able to sneak attack literally makes no sense. She’s about the size of a football field. She’s way too large to hide or sneak attack anything. And considering that Meleys is the fastest and most agile dragon, there no way that she would have so easily ambushed.

Regarding Dragon loyalty: The dragons bond with their riders, so can we assume that they share their rider’s allegiances? Daemon and Caraxes were kinda bonded to Laena and Vhagar while Darmon and Laena were married. We saw them playing and exercising together during that time. How will they react to being pitted against one another?

I love that they waited to show gruesome battle until now! A lot of people have complained about pacing, but the MINUTE Rhaenyra said ‘GO’ it was a bloodbath. It really gives weight and an insight into the amount of compassion she’s shown in her caution until now.

Is the reason she did not flee when she had the chance was because perhaps Sunfyre and Vhagar would have followed her to Dragonstone and ended things there? Just a theory. Was only one dragon sent because Vhagar and Sunfyre were not factored into the equation?

I feel like you are right about fleeing to Dragonstone. She could handle each one of the those dragons 1 v 1. she couldnt do a 1 v 2. If Daemon was at the castle...she would have chanced it. But they have too many fresh new non-battle tested dragons and riders.

I have a similar take. I’m not a book reader but I saw so many other none book readers getting upset about her not fleeing to safety. Some people even said that Aemond gave her an out and I almost laughed at those. Aemond would have definitely chased her since his whole purpose of being at the battle that the men would have easily won, was to draw out a dragon and take it down. Seeing this episode shows me that the Greens are planning to pick off the Blacks’s dragons instead of risking a full on attack. And that makes sense considering the damage one dragon can do when the rider and the dragon have previous battle experience.
