Hughs mother is a true borne sister to baelon who is dameon and viserys's father. Hugh is the grandson of king jahaerys and the dragon he claimed was king jahaerys's. Hughs mother was an outcast of the family and basically cast out because of the life she lived.

1) "Hull" is not a bastard name but a town in Driftmark, so Addam is just saying "My name is this and I'm from that place." The brothers don't have a bastard surname because these are only to designate bastards of lords, and for that it needs to be known and acknowledged that one is a bastard of a lord. Their mother is a common citizen from Hull and didn't tell who their father is, so they just grew up as lowborn commoner. And when a commoner is born a bastard, no one cares enough to mark him with a bastard surname. Commoners dont even have surnames which are for the lords their House names, so he's not Addam Soandso but just Addam from that town. 2)Hugh's mother is Saera Targaryen, a daughter of Old King Jaehaerys, thus a sister to Baelon and Alyssa, the parents of Daemon and Viserys. In the book, Saera was a slut so Jaehaerys banished her first to the Citadel, but she fled to Lys and opened a pleasure house there.

There are three wild dragons: Sheepstealer, Greyghost, and the Cannibal. One of those three is likely in the Vale. Vermithor, Hugh's dragon, belonged to King Jahaerys. Daemon sang to him last season. He's the Bronze Fury. His mate is Silverwing, the one Ulf now rides. She belonged to Queen Allysane. The Greens still have Dreamfyre, Helaena's dragon, and Tessarion, Daeron's dragon. There is a fan theory that Dreamfyre is the mother of Dany's dragons. We saw Dreamfyre is the dragon pit last season. Aemond approached her after Aegon and his nephews gave him the pig.
@CollideFan1Ай бұрын
Its believed that Hugh's mother was Princess Saera Targaryen who was the ninth child of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen. She was a very willful, wild individual who tested her parents patience constantly. She was basically banished by Jaehaerys. So she went over to Essos and became owner of a pleasure house

It's pretty cool that all the dragons have their own different personalities, proven by how they all chose their new riders in three different ways. I imagine Seasmoke was missing his old rider and naturally drawn to Addam because maybe he can sense/smell that he's his old rider's half-brother. Vermithor respects a rider who stood up to him without fear. And Silverwing is a cuddle bug who loves a submissive Ulf.

This episode included 2 magic sacrifices (very in line with themes in the books). The mains 2 magical forces in Westeros are the Old Gods and the Targaryen Dragon magic. During this episode we see a sacrifice being made in front of the weirwood trees (it is said in the books that the trees "drink blood" from the earth) and also a sacrifice to the Dragons in the Dragon pit. Pretty much like how Dany sacrificed the witch, Drogo and her son to hatch the dragons.

Rhaenyra the real mother of dragons
@s1lm4r1l6Ай бұрын
Rhaenys Targaryen was the only child of Jaehaerys I first son, Viserys and Daemon were the sons of his second son. Hugh Hammer is the bastard of Saera Targaryen. Jaehaerys' 9th child and 5th daughter.
@tuxedomask4mascАй бұрын
Jace is upset cause 2 of those new riders got a claim for the throne too, and they got bigger dragons than him AND Rhaenyra, whats stopping them from switching sides? This is why he wanted highborn riders cause they got titles already and their targ blood is so small that they can still bond with a dragon but their claim for the throne is weak.

Hugh's mom Saera isnt a bastard. She was a wild royal princess. Who was sent by her father the King to their version of a nunnery. She escaped to Bravos. Came back to Kingslanding to open her own brothel.
@k.v.7681Ай бұрын
Almost. She fled from the nunnery, and built her fortune as a high-end prostitute in Lys roleplaying as a nun to be defiled. Then she took her money, left, and opened her own pleasure house in Volantis. She never went back to Westeros.

In the book, both Addam and his brother Alyn (who were about 15 years old at this time) tried to claim dragons; and Alyn was definitely rejected (and badly wounded), but Addam claimed Seasmoke. Alyn does, much later, claim another dragon, sort of (depending on how you define "dragon"), well, is claimed by one.

Corlys bastards surnames are Waters
@bill.godwin-austenАй бұрын
That would be the case if they were acknowledged... however, Corlys has never done so, which is why they're known as Alyn and Addam "of Hull", the commoner practice of having a given name, but a descriptive name relating to where they're from "of Hull", or to their trade (Cooper, Fletcher, Wright, Smith), or some distinguishing trait ("the tall", "redbeard") rather than a surname. For example, in the book, Hugh is often referred to as "Hugh the hammer".
@gailf16172 күн бұрын
@@bill.godwin-austen Addam and Alyn's mother was called Marilda of Hull, since she was from the town of Hull, and she was a shipwright's daughter.
@NXS1FYАй бұрын
Hugh implied his mother is Saera Targaryen, who was the ninth child of King Jaehaerys I and Queen Alysanne; she was known throughout Westeros for her promiscuity, and was eventually disowned by her father, sent to live with the Silent Sisters and meant to live out the remainder of her life in celibacy. However, she escaped, and eventually began her own brothel and lived as a concubine. His grandfather King Jaehaerys dragon was also Vermathor. Ulf claims to be the bastard son of Prince Baelon Targaryen, and the half-brother of the late King Viserys I Targaryen and Prince Daemon Targaryen. Ulf is uncertain to go and claim a dragon but any man would be scared if your only source for your Father being a prince is your mother. So I understand his uncertainty there. He does have silver hair. I just want to point out the Dragon Daemon woke up and was singing to was Vermathor and the Dragon Rhaena Taragryen is seeking to claim is Sheepstealer because of all the sheep bones lying around. Sheepstealer is the 2rd largest Wild dragon behind the Cannibal. It was also said that the Cannibal was living in Westeros at the time of Aegon's' conquest which would make him oldest living dragon in Westeros by the time of Dance of the Dragons but not "the oldest". The 3rd wild dragon is Grey Ghost.

I know it doesnt fit what happened in the books, but it just makes me feel like team black is mentally handicapped. Everybody knows that Silverwing has the reputation of being the more gentle, human friendly, dragon of all the riderless ones that are available. Why didnt one of these geniuses use their head for something other than a hat rack, and let Ser Steffon try with her first? It hadnt been tried before, it would only be logical that if you were going to "test" something like that, to try it on "easy mode" first to see if were even possible. Moving on after the decision with Seasmoke, you now know it can be done because he went and picked out Adam of Hull on his own. That should tell you Silverwing should be next. You've got a bunch of bastards, call in Silverwing, surely she would pick one of them. So your odds of getting one more dragon rider would be pretty high, but no, they gather them all of them send them to Vermithor first? He was considered the grumpy, ferocious, vicious one, he could have killed them all and you wouldnt have gotten ANY more for all you know. Was blind luck that Ulf escaped into the caves and that Hugh was able to claim Vermithor. They came within a hair of my chinny chin chin of getting no dragon riders from this event... None of the decision making seems to be done with any tactical/strategic thinking.
@mmeade9402Ай бұрын
And early in the season, when Rhaenyra comes back and decides "I .. Want.. Aemond.. Targaryen.." ..... Ok? Instructions? Thoughts? Expand a little, what would you like us to do? You want us to send Assasins? Setup a dragon ambush with Caraxes and Meleys? Pay the faceless men? Come on, we need details? But no, just a vague instruction which causes Daemon to do his impulsive thing and go pick out a couple unreliable actors which leads to the baby killing. But Daemon catches all of the blame? You're the queen madam, you dropped a "I want X dead" bomb in the council meeting and then left it at that? Sure Daemon isnt blameless, but Rhaenyra's the boss, the boss left no instructions, and when left without clear instructions, who knows what the employees will get up to...
@gailf16172 күн бұрын
Seasmoke probably picked Addam because the dragon smelled Addam's kinship with his last rider, Laenor; that, and Addam was more palatable as a rider than "salt and sea" Alyn.

It is not a good idea to give ordenary people superhuman strength who previously had none. It is even less good to give power to people who have suffered before. The danger is much greater that they will now take what they want and think that they are entitled to it now. Do we really think that Hugh is honorable? Previous episode has shown that he is not. He knocked down a man to get his food instead of going to the beach himself. And here, too, he is driven by the desire to gain power, even if his wife did not wishes for it. And did he really save the woman's life here or just wanted to prevent the dragon from bonding with her? Because the dragon stood relatively calmly opposite the woman, he did not attack her. He then drew attention to himself. Also interrupted a possible bonding moment. Hugh has selfish ambitions. His goal is first and foremost to give his wife and himself a better life and feels more committed to this than Rhaenyra and the realm. In contrast to this is Addam, who immediately got down on his knees and swore allegiance to Rhaenyra and the realm and immediately turned his back on his old life. I think Ulf had it so easy with Silverwing because he took on the smell of Silverwing's children from kicking in the eggs. She accepted him more as one of her children. And of course it was intentional to fly from Ulf over King's Landing. Who gave Ulf the saddle for Silverwing? It had to be on it first. Ammond was lured to see the superiority of Rhaenyra. Their goal is still to end everything without bloodshed. This was intimidation in the hope that the other side would give up.

In the book, it is implied that Addam and Alyn might be Corlys' sons, since he waited to bring them forth and recognize them until after Rhaenys' death. The boys' paternity is never clarified, but they are definitely Velaryons.
