Maybe strange to say , but you actually changed my life :O from childhood on i was on the darker sides of, at the age of 14 i had already 2 juvenile convictions and at age 26 i did approx 5 years in multiple terms. Cocaine, booze, homeless. It was a deadly spiral. Then at my last visit to the states hotels, a guard introduced me to the guitar, he lend me an old acoustic one that was barely to be tuned, but i got the first chords down. started to play in the church band in jail and then my father smuggled in 2 dvd's (Yes i know i am from Holland, where jails are actually really hotels) with youtube movies. Starring Marty Schwarz ever since i am hooked to guitar and music and a lot of times it keeps me out of trouble. Thanks a lot.

I Love stories like this, I was lucky enough to have awesome dad named Bill Miser who was a Chicago Blues Man and Old School Gospel Singer. I would sit around and watch him play and sing for years until when I was about 16 he bought me a baby blue fender stratocaster for 20$ from one of my friends and I spent the following 5 years or so learning all the songs he would play and sing until he died when I was 21 from asbestos lung cancer. I'm so glad I took the time to learn his music because now whenever I want to be with him I can play them and feel and hear him playing beside me. Kinda sucks tho he would always play rhythm and I would play leads but now I only get to play his part and then switch to my part never getting to hear them both at the same time like it was cuz I have no one to play with. I did have a bit of forward thinking and got him to go to a recording studio one day and we recorded a handful of songs but he was having a hard time breathing that day so the recording isn't his best not anything like how amazing we used to play during a long night of beers and BBQ. Anyway kind of a rant but this was his favorite song and he sang it with such power it literally would have people in tears, I know it brings me to tears just trying to replicate it best I can. Marty Schwartz here was crucial in my learning process whenever I wasn't playing with my pops I was learning stuff from Marty and would bust it out when I played with my pops later on and he would get so excited to hear me playing songs he didn't even know how to play. He would shout "Wow! Josh that is so cool!" at the top of his lungs when I would get done playing a new song, even came up with a song or two of my own that he really enjoyed. so Im happy to see Marty made a video on this song, I love to hear him play as well, very emotional for me. Music is a wonderful thing, Keep on rockin in the free world! ~Josh Miser

Tommy Emmanuel teaches an Am chord at the 5th fret, a C9 (just add the high G3 on the E string) a D chord minus the 3rd at frets 2&3, an F7 barre chord at 1st fret. For the E he plays a first position full E7. He alternates of course, but this a nice voicing on acoustic.

I really appreciate how easy you make it learning a tune; you break the tune down into easy blocks and how to pick out strings in the best way I have seen online. Other players baffle me with over-complicated explanations about chord progression and everything else. Most people learning want to be able to play a song or two before going deeper into the whole guitar method & history. Thank you so much; I am NOW enjoying how to play the guitar at long last & watching the other tutors was beginning to think I should give up because I could not grasp the overload of information and was thick or not musically inclined. You have convinced me that with your help; anyone can at least learn to play a couple of song on guitar and they don't need to grow 6 extra fingers. Cheers Marty God bless you. Keith.

thanks a lot! it's helpful when people put chords on the screen, but fortunately you showed the fingers positions quite well. appreciate that. such a gorgeous melody! really timeless.

I like those one. Dude I think it’s great that you leave your “fails” in here. Makes it known that it’s totally okay for the rest of us to “fail” or mess up as well. Cheers!

Hi Marty. I have always sucked at using a pick (plectrum), do you think you could do a basic tutorial on how to use a pick? I always grow my nails, which I find don't sound as good, but it feels more natural. Might sound like a super basic thing to teach, but man, my picking is so bad. Would be good to get your input into how to develop the technique and to use the right kind of pick, especially for a beginner pick user. As always thanks for your tutorials, awesome You Tube Channel, your work here is very much appreciated.

there's an app called 'yousician' it helped me so much with my plectrum. It gives you 20min lessons each day without having to subscribe. Hope you find it useful:)

If your picking hasn't improved yet, try a thumb pick. It would be a very similar feeling to your nail.

I too have issue, I had my right thumb re-attached at the first digit and had extreme difficulties at first. However, after practicing 2-3 hours a day for a month I got the hang of it, just keep practicing and you'll get it.

Just started playing guitar, know a few chords. Is this too hard for me?
@bc11836 жыл бұрын
Start off with something a bit easier since you are a novice. That being said, you should be able to build up to this skill level soon. Focus on being able to transition smoothly between the basic chords. Good luck!

Am I the only one who can't do a F to save my life? My fingers wont stretch and slide together
@paulsun10015 жыл бұрын
I found that chord so difficult, however I played it a million times over and now it kind of slots into place. You will get there in the end as long as you persevere.

Mine dislocate so I can’t play the bar version and it’s really hard for the other ones too.
@edwinflynn97446 жыл бұрын
Thanks for explaining the F Chord for me. I have been having difficulties holding the both notes with my little finger. Your comment about not being too worried if the high E is not held properly is positive, I guess it will come good with a bit of practice. Thanks
