I just found your channel and I love all your videos. The way you break down every step is amazing and I see that you respond to a lot of questions which is a big plus when following someone. I’ve been using After Effects for almost 16 years and on Halloween I run a minimum of six different projectors, for video animation, but I’ve never done projection mapping although I’ve always wanted to. My biggest thing is I live in Oregon and it’s cold and rainy on Halloween, and outside is the last place I want to be. 😂 Since I found your videos I think I’m going to bite the bullet and at least try this coming spring and/or summer, when it’s a bit warmer. The projection housing should take care of the rest. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you.

Hi Luna - fantastic easy to understand videos...Thank you for them. I am just getting started in this fun project and I went through your mapping videos using LumaLite and then taking it into Gimp and finally into MadMapper Demo. There is a slight problem I am encountering (it's probably a simple adjustment on my end) when I am at the final step of the process in MadMapper, where I need to put the image in Full Screen mode and then do a snapshot. The image gets blown up too big and some parts of it are off screen and do not make it into the screen shot. Do you think the original picture I had taken with my phone on top of the projector might have been focused in too close? Maybe there is there some simple adjustment that needs to be made in MadMapper before I put it into Full screen mode? Thank you in advance for your help and guidance. - Ron

Hmm, sounds like maybe you've scaled your input mesh to be smaller than your photo... but I'm confused as to why you are using MadMapper if you've downloaded LumaMap Lite? The whole workflow can be done in that software, you don't need to use MadMapper. Follow this with LumaMap Lite www.lumabox.com/lumamap/knowledge-hub/guides/make-a-mapping-guide/

I am going to do a projection mapping on my antique bus for Christmas. It seems, since you are using Meshroom, that you have a PC not Mac? I was going to buy a Mac but want your opinion. Also, how many and what type of projectors would you recommend for a bus?😆 It's a typical 9' x 35' Trailways bus. I am doing an outside projection as well as an inside projection. This is new to me altho I have a 3d CAD design background so it's not totally a foreign language. I love your tutorials and am definitely using them as a guide☺️
@LumaBox3 жыл бұрын
I did use a PC but I also listed some photogrammetry software options for Mac users in the description - I've used Regard3D which works on Mac and the results were ok. Maybe not quite as good as Meshroom but good enough to make a guide. Check out the projectors I recommend here - they'd probably be fine for your bus www.lumabox.com/house-projection-mapping-kit/ but check your dimensions with the projector central calculator www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm. They would probably be overkill for interior projection though where you won't need something so bright. You'll definitely want to go short throw if you don't have much space inside.

@@LumaBox Thank-you so much! I really appreciate the fact that you reply to your comments and that they don't go into the internet black hole. hi this is great, one question. do you have to project on to a white house?. x
@LumaBox3 жыл бұрын
Hi. No you absolutely don't need to project on a white house. You can project on almost any kind of surface. HOWEVER, the darker and/or more textured the surface, the more brightness you will need from your projector and very dark materials (red roof tiles, or surfaces painted black etc) you might struggle to get the results you want within a reasonable budget. Compare how the projection appears on the white parts of the house compared to the red tiles on the roof - there is a big difference.

Hi, I have a question and it would be great if you could help me with it. Whenever I'm projecting (I use Resolume), there are pixels visible in the projected image. Is there any way that can be controlled or removed or is that default? Would using any other software or keeping a high composition size help remove them?
@LumaBox3 жыл бұрын
What is the resolution of your projector? If it has low resolution and you are projecting an image over a large area, you will see pixels. Or it might be because you are using low resolution video content or your composition resolution is too low. It's hard to say without knowing what you're working with. Rule of thumb is always try to use the highest resolution your budget will allow which includes both projector and video content resolution.
@peachygrenade3 жыл бұрын
@@LumaBox I'm not entirely sure of the projector resolution but it is around 3k lumens. And by pixels I meant this faint grid visible behind the image in the projected content. Maybe, that's normal? However, this was helpful. Thank you so much.

@@LumaBox Cool. I'm sure it also helps that your home is so close to white. Might this process be possible in Apple Motion instead of After Effects? If so, would you consider doing a tutorial?

@@MiracleAttraction I don't know about the 'mapping' part of the process in Motion (e.g. the corner pin and output through projector) but all the video content animation could definitely be done with it. hi there I've watched all the videos and I have two questions 1: will any full hd short throw projector work? 2: my house is attached on both sides how would I go about taking the photos? p.s. thank you for the videos really well explained and put together
@LumaBox4 жыл бұрын
In principle, any projector can do this -- whether it's short throw, standard lens, Full HD resolution or less (or more!) But not all projectors are created equal so it will really depend on the model you've got. A cheap projector might, technically speaking, be capable of doing this but it doesn't mean it's going to look anything like as good as an expensive projector. I don't think having houses either side should be too much of an issue for your reference photos. Just try to get as many angles as possible and see what results you get.

Watched your complete tutorial and learned lots of great things that I think I can build upon. I was really excited to give this a go on my house until I realized that my house won't work with the method you used. Unfortunately the best projection areas on my house are two walls that are at a 90° angle from each other. Any suggestions?
@LumaBox3 жыл бұрын
The process will be a little trickier for you, but still doable. What you would do is export your Side camera view from Blender in addition to the Front. Then you will have to do a little splicing/assembling in After Effects so that the surfaces join in the right places. Imagine you have a paper model of the surfaces you want to project on and you're lay them out flat, that's what you're trying to make in AE. Does that make sense?
