This house is stunning and I would love to live in a such a place. Maybe I would update the garden as well (avid gardener here). @@Rinsuki it’s the cost, and the fact that the masses don’t have access to the good lumber required, either. In fact, that kind of wood needs to be purchased salvaged, usually and can be difficult to find. Remodelers in the 1920s, 30s and 40s salvaged building materials, but more current remodelers did not. Beautiful deal. I really believe the original purpose of the room to the right of the entry is the parlor, through to the library-they often had pocket doors to draw-thus all the shelves, low light over a low table; the dining room is the one adjacent to the kitchen with the swinging door for serving. The fireplaces are fabulous.
@genkibee94663 жыл бұрын
I think you are correct and it is now this way again, the room to the right is a parlour, then leading to an office-library, with the dining room on the left side, leading into the kitchen. That flow works well for us.

I have seen library type shelving in in several Victorian and Edwardian dining rooms. They were original to the house. People in those days had complete and separate sets of china for EVERY occasion. They even had different sets of china for each meal, breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. These could range from every-day, casual, business, semi-formal, formal and even very rare occasion formal and any or all combinations of these. So, it was common for homeowners to display all of their sets of china all in one place. Thus, all of the shelving in the dining room. It was like a passive yet conspicuous demonstration of their china bragging rights. You did such a beautiful job on this, as you always do.
