Having worked at a place with pocket doors I can tell you this. When they fail. They fail miserably and are much harder to repair than a swing out door.

They often aren’t in working order. I have some; one slides well, one doesn’t. For that reason, I cannot use them (yet). The last house I was in had them too. It was c 1898. The pocket doors worked but banged a bit upon opening, squeezed, and barely fit. I think they were made a bit short. For that reason, they weren’t super convenient. I had stripped them partially and had to sell the house. Wonder if they remained, but I hope so!

I am SO GLAD you took the time to speak about why all the woodwork on the second floor is painted. That is the number one thing that irks me about older homes with beautiful woodwork. Every single time a home goes on the market, somebody decides it will look cleaner and brighter and bigger for prospective buyers if they slap white paint everywhere. I live in an area that has so many gorgeous old homes, but finding one with original, unpainted woodwork is nearly impossible. SO...after seeing all that SPECTACULAR woodwork on the first floor, I would have been grinding my teeth if you hadn't taken the time to explain why the second floor is painted. (I learned something, too.) Thank you. This home has truly wonderful original details. What a gem! Extraordinary.

Forty two years ago, I looked at a Queen Ann home that I wanted so badly. It had stayed in the family since it was built. It was in wonderful shape despite it’s age, and had a third floor ballroom,and the original cistern in the basement. It still had the original carriage house, and hitching post in the front of the house. I have never forgot about it, but I’m too old now to take care of it. At the time, it was at $84,000.

Some sort of cleaning lady or ladies, grounds keepers, gardeners, house insurance, real estate taxes, to name a few! Wow! Living in a town that has a preponderance of these types of houses, I’m impressed by the attention to detail. Someone once told me (who owns one of these houses) that a true Victorian has at least 4 different paint colors on the exterior. Most of the houses like this in my town have been converted into apartments and office spaces.

Oh gosh what a treasure! And thank you for finally explaining Queen Anne! I moved to MI from UK in 1980 and you are the first person who has clearly explained the meaning!! It all makes sense NOW! That really is a remarkably well-preserved home but still eminently comfortable and livable from what you were showing - the kitchen really was so impressive and the dining nook as desirable now as it ever was - so amazing it didn't have its heart ripped out in the dreaded 60's or 70's! We lived in a Victorian and the steeple (turret) was my room. It had a small door that lead to a different area of the house like secret apartment with back stairs. The walls were all mahogany! so many hidden places too. The details stunning like this

Here in Oregon, $650,000 gets you a beautiful home, but nothing like this beauty, it would be at least $1,500,000 here, maybe more. A ranch style, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home here goes for $400,000 & my middle son just bought a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath home in a decent area, but nothing too fancy, for $575,000. Amazing Victorian home! Glad you pointed out the painted trim on the second floor. A lot of people don’t know they did paint the trim in those days. I love the 1910 kitchen and bathrooms. I live in a Victorian home built in 1910. It’s a beautiful home with pocket doors, large foyer, ect.., but unfortunately the original 1910 kitchen was completely remodeled in the 60’s, and the only original 1910 bathroom part left is the floor tile. My home is in a historic district and quite a few homes in my neighborhood still have the old gasolier fixtures. Mine fortunately still has the original 1910 light fixtures in the foyer, living room, upper hallway and a few of the bedrooms. I would not change anything about the 1910 kitchen in that house. Nothing wrong with those countertops and cabinets. The current owners clearly put a large sum of money into the preservation of that home.

It's beautiful..the hard work.and care to take it back is perfect and you can see the love and time it took...well worth the price..in CA you couldn't buy a dumpy tract home for that price..it's a time capsule and I hope it's loved for many more years..thanks for sharing

A magnificent house and superb video. I appreciated the explanation of what "Queen Anne" meant; I had no idea where the name came from. I'd never heard "gasoliers" before, either. Your presentation of the home was the best I've ever seen. While you were in the video, you didn't dominate it to the point that the house was hidden. You and your camera person worked so well together to provide wonderful views of the rooms. And for this house, the survey of the grounds was almost necessary. I congratulate you on the best house presentation I've ever seen.

This is an outstanding channel. Your presentation skills, passion about the architecture and general energy are superb. It makes no sense why you're shooting these beautiful videos on a potato of a camera. The low lux grain is literally taking away from our ability to see things. I'm shocked a video from 2021 looks like it was shot with a webcam from 1998. I'm subscribing because this is awesome and will look even better when you get a quality camera.

650k seems like a steal the absolute amazing condition that house is in and it’s originality is astonishing it’s lasted more than a century. While I’m not a huge fan of pink I wouldn’t change a thing about that house.
