Tbh I would most def get rid of the ugly wallpaper, but the wood would be left untouched. The kitchen most def needs to be revamped with new cabinets and counter tops, ones that would preferably match the woodwork of the rest of the house. You'd also have to take into consideration potential led pipes and asbestos.
@raymondhutchinson71563 жыл бұрын
@@yozora55555 Yeh , I don't think that wall paper matches the period. Most arts and crafts wallpapers had geometric floral designs or scenes of nature. The overall period of arts and crafts was a reaction against the industrialization of the time. If the kitchen is redone, it should take into consideration the period and try to match it while still being serviceable to modern needs. I can imagine new wood cabinets with a medium stain to match the homes paneling .Mabey a subway tile backsplash that is either a green color to match the front fireplace ,any earthy color ,or white.
@raymondhutchinson71563 жыл бұрын
I can understand a condition where there is not much left of an original bathroom, but why do people modernize historic bathrooms. At least try and match the style and character of the home, maybe even look at architectural salvage shops for period fixtures (plumbing, electrical, tile).
@raymondhutchinson71563 жыл бұрын
In a renovation, they still produce some of that floor tile designs. Some classic style tiles are even cheaper than those in fashion . There are also plenty of restoration oriented companies that will reproduce historic features for homes .

What a wonderfully preserved example of Prairie Style design. There should be a preservation easement on both the interior and exterior of this house so no future owner can destroy the historic features. The original bathrooms are just so rare nowadays, I hope someone in preservation is photographing and documenting the unglazed porcelain floor tile mosaic designs, the fixtures, and the bathroom “jewelry”, those original towel bars, cup holders and sconces. Maybe she can write a book on historic architecture or start a website in collaboration with a college architecture student or a historical society or the like photographing and documenting all these wonderful homes!

This home was owned by Mr Spivey for as long as I can remember. I love love love this Prairie style. The interior reminds me of the Arts & Crafts style as well. When I was young Helena had some absolutely beautiful old homes, some still standing but sadly many are gone. Every time Laine features a Helena home I get a wave of heavy nostalgia. It also has a brick fireplace with built-in oak bookcases on each side (with glass doors). And of course, all oak floors. It's a fraction of the size of the Arkansas house, but it's my piece of heaven. There are 80,000 bungalows in Chicago, the only problem is, you'd have to have at least $350,000 to buy one.
