I had a friend many years ago with property like yours. He also cut trails through his woods and planted various naturalized blooming shade plants throughout the trail that made for a beautiful walking trail. Lots of iris, bleeding hearts, hostas, etc. that would come up every year.
@mcmanpa3 жыл бұрын
Our farm had ticks. The solution, when going out to walk or work on the property, was to wear boots, thick socks, long pants with the trouser tucked into the socks and all three (boot, socks, pants) sprayed with a repellent that contains DEET as the active ingredient. Ticks won’t get past it. (Also, keep the grass short around the house where you do most of your walking.)

When you get into the barn, some of those old crates may be vintage fruit crates, etc. Could nail them to walls for shelves or storage in workshop. (BTW, it's called a vise, the "clamp.") and keep those sawhorses for wood projects, painting, bucking wood, etc. How many acres? Was this an estate sale, that you got all the junk, etc "as is?" The pond is cool! You'll have to do "trail work" every year to keep your paths clear! Arbor and you are going to love those walks! Do you get snow there? You'll need a shed for your chain saw, chipper, lawn mower, (snow blower), (or garden tractor). Maybe a four-wheeler? I hope you have the $$ to complete all your projects now, and rehab the rest. I know a lot of this hasn't been cheap! Take care, and enjoy! Hopefully, your O.D. work will pick up soon, with vaxes increasing and masking/contacts relaxing! ❤️

I probably live about 30 miles due west from Andrew, down the Columbia River. Not going to go looking for specifics. He has a real fixer--upper there and the extended yard and out-buildings have great potential for all sorts of uses. My only advice to him would be to start right now to hire some local to mow the yard, cut back the overgrowth, etc., on a continuing basis. The yard came to him with a year or two if neglect. In our climate, that stuff will grow out of control faster than he can believe. Consider it the price of being a country gentleman. That "flowering tree" is a very old, poorly located rhododendron. Lack of light from the shading trees makes them that way. That pond surrounded by iris is just fantastic, a real treasure for the property. I look forward to his future adventures in country home owning.

As my mother always said, if you are bored, buy a house, you will have plenty to do. Can't wait to see the remodel. You need to get a riding lawn mower. Also, how do you know where your property line is. You should create a path that follows your property line. That would be fun. Andrew - Don’t remove that window in the kitchen. You’ll regret it. Kitchens need as much natural light as possible. Your kitchen already looks dark. Removing that window will make it a lot darker. Maybe change it to a shorter window that you can run base cabinets under. Or, even better would be to make the other window bigger. You have beautiful views. Why not open the kitchen up to them? That would be awesome.

When you were showing Rainier in the last video I had a moment of surprise because you were practically driving past my house haha. I hope you enjoy living in the area, it is indeed an outdoor oasis! The only big drawback I find is that the gloomy rainy season can be taxing on one's mental health. But having a travel heavy lifestyle works really well to mitigate that.

You've got so much land!! I'm jealous. LOL Do you know how much snow you'll get in the winter? There are several non-chemical ways to prevent ticks from attacking you. You can make a lotion using 8 1/2 ounces of a body lotion of your choice, add 20 to 30 drops of essential oils (like lemon, tea tree, eucalyptus). Mix well and apply to exposed skin. I'd even go down your ankles a bit into your shoes. You can also use a water based repellent for you clothes. In a spray bottle add one cup of water, 2-5 drops lavender oil, 2-5 drops lemongrass oil, 10 drops rose geranium oil, 2-5 drops cedar oil. Shake well and spray it on your shoes and clothes. These oils may be hard to find, but worth it. I'm from Central/Western Florida (Tampa area) and my parents are from Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda (south of Mt. Myers) area. So ticks and fleas are bad there. My grandmother used a mixture of dried Rosemary (small had full, probably around and ounce), 4 cups of water, and at least one tablespoon of vinegar. Boil the water and add the Rosemary. Stir, cover, and let steep overnight (you can just leave it on the stove). The next day, strain the water/Rosemary mixture and put it in a spray bottle. Add the vinegar and shake to mix it up. You can use this on your skin, your clothes, AND your pets.
