What a generous thought in your second sentence. I'm sure you had the response I just had, "This man has a great capacity to love honestly, and I hope he and that special man will meet up and recognize each other"--something like that. I'm 4-5 years late in seeing this, but I'm sure his situation has changed for the better. I often feel like I'm allowed to read only the first part of a book.

Christopher, the real sin is the hatred that has been imparted upon you through perceived religious dogma, that really does not exist.I cry that you felt that you wanted to change who you really are. praying to be straight is not the answer. The answers are in our own hearts as each one of us has a separate journey to take through life.. No one else's choices for you should control you. Love as you choose. Live as you choose. Laugh as you choose. Be at peace with your choices, no matter what anyone else feels. Peace and love to you my friend I hope to see more videos from you.

Christopher, not a week goes by without me watching one of these " Coming out" videos that touches my soul. Like yourself, I am attracted to men and have been all my life. I don't like labels, so piss on "gay", " straight" or whatever else the judeo/christian society in which we are imprisoned vomits into our brains as truths. My story is literally the same as yours, suicidal ideation and all. I love you brother and you are never alone in this even when you think you are. My question to you is are you into guys that are older than yourself? Because whoever you end up with is the luckiest man in the world. I seriously mean that.

CHRISTOPHER -- Wow, what a powerful story about discovering yourself and transforming your fears. I am a 70-year-old gay American man now living in Great Britain. I love how you spoke so directly and honestly about no longer living a lie but yet terrified of speaking your truth -- yet you did it anyway. This confirms the equation that I have learned -- FEAR + Love = MAGIC. In other words, if we allow ourselves to fear and discover our many fears and fear-based limitations, we can then give ourselves self-love and thereby transform those fears into positive energy. You can take this to the bank. I love your line about "Why can't I love the way I want to." Congratulations, Big Soul. THIS is what spiritual growth is about. Accepting and loving yourself. -- Donald in Wales

Wow Chris. This was the most heartfelt and sincere coming out I've ever seen. I relived my own experiences with every word you spoke. I can see and feel the apprehension and the weariness in your eyes and in your voice. I think I had to remind myself to breathe a couple of times there. It's a heavy load to bear, trying to live our life to fit the expectations of others, and it only serves to add guilt and shame to our already difficult situation. Once we lift this burden of denial, we can truly begin the journey to happiness. It doesn't make everything instantly good, but it's a start. I think you will be surprised to find how many people in your life will be unaffected by this, as they will know that you are still the same guy they have always known. And those that have a problem with it, you will just have to learn to accept that it is their problem to work through and not yours. And sadly there may be a few that you will just have to let go. I wish you the best in your journey, if the world had more people who value honesty as you do, it would be such a better place for us all.

Raised southern Baptist and served as a music director for 37 years in southern Baptist churches. Lived in the same fear and denial as you did but mine was based on suppressed feelings. Attraction to men terrified me and I suppressed those too. Ate to overcome the pain and developed an eating disorder by the age of ten. Did not come out until the age of 63 in 2019. Proud that you had the courage to face your fears at such a young age.

I'm writing this the end of June, 2020. So I doubt you'll even see this. But I wanted to sincerely thank you for your honesty, courage and integrity. The pain that you experienced growing up, though horrific, has made you the strong person you are in this video. If you haven't already discovered the deep freedom of non-belief, I encourage you to explore it. No matter how much you try to rationalize or excuse religion, it will always disappoint you, judge you, and remain a shackle around your neck. So let go - you don't need it. And see how much true freedom and deep happiness there is for you to discover in atheism/agnosticism. This "break" may be absolutely necessary for your very survival as a gay person, not to mention your full self-realization. I wish you much love and genuine acceptance in your beautiful gay life, my friend. ❤️

I think our society and religious organizations do such damage to us with their misguided views on sex and marriage. To have such a burden placed upon us at the same time as you were going through puberty is too much the bare for some. I am glad you were able to overcome the many obstacles placed in front of you by your family, faith and community to be who you are. I came out to my family at 65 and growing old without a partner is not recommended! Your comment that we all must just remain celibate and can never love anyone, is completely unrealistic and cruel. I can not believe God would give us the power and desire to love and then say we could never have the joy of the gifts love can bring us to the end of life.

You seem to be such a nice guy, being gay is definitely not a choice. I reckon not having feelings for girls ever since I can remember. Hi Christopher, My partner and I have just watched your Coming Out Story and are now wiping away the tears because of the emotion that you shown in telling us about yourself. You are one hell of a guy and as you are moving through the different stages of your life you are discovering some truths. Discovering them and accepting them is paramount. You are Gay, you are worthy of love, giving and receiving, you are normal, you are human etc etc. In my case, I only found peace when I came out. The nervous energy that I used in hiding my secret was now free to flow into things that I loved, not deceit. It Does Get Better, sounds corny, but it is the truth. Hey. I am doing well Thank You for your support. It has been a long journey thus far and continues to be. I have been thinking about making another video as a follow up but will probably do so after I graduate in May. The support from friends has been amazing!! My family life is still very rough though. My parents still say its a choice and a sin. My Grandparents have been worse. The night I posted the video they called demanding I take it down and have since left me 2 long nasty emails that are one attack after another. I know it will take time and I am prepared to wait but with every Bible thumping text I get from my mom and other family members that continue to hate it hurts all the more.. If things don't get better soon with them I might have to make the difficult choice to shut them out.. Thank you again for your support. The greatest thing I have gotten out of this is hearing that I have inspired others. That really means alot to me.

Thanks for sharing this, I know it was difficult for you. I have known all my life that I was different. I never dated girls as such; they were friends. I grew up strict Catholic and was told gays were sinners. I tried to pray the gay away. I suffered depression and tried suicide ((I also have a slight disability and that played a part) thank God - not too seriously). I never acted on it, but I was sorely tested. I went to university and became more assured. I to university quite late, so when I was almost thirty I was ready to come out, but my brother beat me to it; because he came out due to having HIV and AIDS, I went back into the closet. I moved away a number of years later and came out at 40. Today, I am a happy man. I have my faith, but I no longer do the church part (long story but that is how I dealt with the Christian upbringing). Today, I have my faith. I believe God created me for me and that he doesn't make junk and thus I am as I was meant to be. I no longer believe that God hates gays: Love is love. I am not perfect (no one is). I have faith and that is all that matters. You are loved. You are loved by hopefully some family or extended family, you are loved by friends and you are loved by those people you have touched with your story. I hope you have found peace, love and joy that you so richly deserved. Virtual hugs. A "friend". Bob

Emmanuel and Bless you Friend. 60 yrs old here who had the same exact experiences. One thing I learned that changed my life is if you REALLY ANALYSE the scriptures, loving is not the sin. It's the act (which by the way is in effect for M/F relations too). If you could learn to avoid the physical (which actually is one of the main tenants of Christianity), your entire life will change. You can still love anther man. Ask yourself, when is love EVER a sin??? 37 year relationship here, but God called my soul mate home last year. The devistation is indescribable, almost inhumane. It is only my faith that holds me toghether. Please belive in yourself. You are handsome, honest and mature. My prayers are with you, brother.

My mom wrote me a very long scathing letter condemning me to hell for the choices I was making and on and on. I lost several friends during the process as well. It took well over a year before my mom & I even spoke again and then for years after the relationship was strained. You know the funny thing, I finally relented and took my then partner, now husband, home to meet the family. I was scared more then than I was about coming out to them. After they met my Andy, almost overnight my relationship with my family was actually stronger than it had ever been. They love Andy as much (i think he is mom's favorite) as they do me. I cry every time I think about how wonderful my family has been to us. They genuinely love him and know without a doubt that he is absolutely the best thing that has ever happened in my life. I still from time to time let my mind fall back onto the religion that I was brought up in, and I have to admit, that those teachings can still haunt me. But in the end, I realize God creates out of love and not hate. I hope at this point in your life you've got that first great post-college job and maybe just maybe someone really close to your heart too. You seem like a great guy, someone I would definitely want to be friends with, someone that people can look up to as a role model. Keep up the good work. ~ John

Beautiful video, very well spoken. I hope and wish all the best for you:) The people who truly love you will always love you, even if it takes some people more time to understand the real you. You deserve to be authentically you, and you deserve to be happy. Awesome to see you taking that into your own hands:)

Christopher. Great story, stay strong, stay proud, and stay away from those pathetic people that are so weak they have to believe in some imaginary entity to give meaning to their lives.

I have never seen someone come out with class. You did this perfectly and if you loss any friends they really were not' friends. I see a bright future for you as you are honest, censer and will have no trouble finding a great person for you. He will be a very lucky person and better treat you right. As I said perfectly done.
