Your friends and family are VERY lucky to have someone as honest, strong AND sensitive as you. The partner you haven't met yet would be thrilled if he knew you were in his future. My best, Brad

What a generous thought in your second sentence. I'm sure you had the response I just had, "This man has a great capacity to love honestly, and I hope he and that special man will meet up and recognize each other"--something like that. I'm 4-5 years late in seeing this, but I'm sure his situation has changed for the better. I often feel like I'm allowed to read only the first part of a book.

True!! If being gay was a choice, then why would anyone choose to get killed in hate crimes, get discriminated against, lose their jobs and be shunned by their own parents?

Christopher, the real sin is the hatred that has been imparted upon you through perceived religious dogma, that really does not exist.I cry that you felt that you wanted to change who you really are. praying to be straight is not the answer. The answers are in our own hearts as each one of us has a separate journey to take through life.. No one else's choices for you should control you. Love as you choose. Live as you choose. Laugh as you choose. Be at peace with your choices, no matter what anyone else feels. Peace and love to you my friend I hope to see more videos from you.

Christopher, not a week goes by without me watching one of these " Coming out" videos that touches my soul. Like yourself, I am attracted to men and have been all my life. I don't like labels, so piss on "gay", " straight" or whatever else the judeo/christian society in which we are imprisoned vomits into our brains as truths. My story is literally the same as yours, suicidal ideation and all. I love you brother and you are never alone in this even when you think you are. My question to you is are you into guys that are older than yourself? Because whoever you end up with is the luckiest man in the world. I seriously mean that.

I think our society and religious organizations do such damage to us with their misguided views on sex and marriage. To have such a burden placed upon us at the same time as you were going through puberty is too much the bare for some. I am glad you were able to overcome the many obstacles placed in front of you by your family, faith and community to be who you are. I came out to my family at 65 and growing old without a partner is not recommended! Your comment that we all must just remain celibate and can never love anyone, is completely unrealistic and cruel. I can not believe God would give us the power and desire to love and then say we could never have the joy of the gifts love can bring us to the end of life.

Raised southern Baptist and served as a music director for 37 years in southern Baptist churches. Lived in the same fear and denial as you did but mine was based on suppressed feelings. Attraction to men terrified me and I suppressed those too. Ate to overcome the pain and developed an eating disorder by the age of ten. Did not come out until the age of 63 in 2019. Proud that you had the courage to face your fears at such a young age.

This is a real man! You are so wonderful. There is still hope in this world. Your honesty is powerful. It took a great deal of courage to overcome the brainwashings of religion and to emerge from that circumstance. It takes a lot of strength and resolve but you did it. I too was told all about hell being the result of being gay. It damn near did me in. I rejected the whole thing, accepted myself as I was, and have been happy ever since. You are going to make someone a tremendous partner. I think you are even more beautiful on the inside than you are on the outside. I would love to have a friend like you. Good luck with your future.

This is when I hear such a heartbreaking story that I am so glad that I've been raised away from religion by parents who taught me from the very start that I am a great person and that I can do whatever I want as long as I lead a life I can be proud of. You look very sincere and seem to be a great guy. I am sure that if it's not already done you will find your soulmate, someone that you can rely on, support and that you will also sometimes want to kill ... hey hey Good luck

CHRISTOPHER -- Wow, what a powerful story about discovering yourself and transforming your fears. I am a 70-year-old gay American man now living in Great Britain. I love how you spoke so directly and honestly about no longer living a lie but yet terrified of speaking your truth -- yet you did it anyway. This confirms the equation that I have learned -- FEAR + Love = MAGIC. In other words, if we allow ourselves to fear and discover our many fears and fear-based limitations, we can then give ourselves self-love and thereby transform those fears into positive energy. You can take this to the bank. I love your line about "Why can't I love the way I want to." Congratulations, Big Soul. THIS is what spiritual growth is about. Accepting and loving yourself. -- Donald in Wales

Wow Chris. This was the most heartfelt and sincere coming out I've ever seen. I relived my own experiences with every word you spoke. I can see and feel the apprehension and the weariness in your eyes and in your voice. I think I had to remind myself to breathe a couple of times there. It's a heavy load to bear, trying to live our life to fit the expectations of others, and it only serves to add guilt and shame to our already difficult situation. Once we lift this burden of denial, we can truly begin the journey to happiness. It doesn't make everything instantly good, but it's a start. I think you will be surprised to find how many people in your life will be unaffected by this, as they will know that you are still the same guy they have always known. And those that have a problem with it, you will just have to learn to accept that it is their problem to work through and not yours. And sadly there may be a few that you will just have to let go. I wish you the best in your journey, if the world had more people who value honesty as you do, it would be such a better place for us all.

You seem to be such a nice guy, being gay is definitely not a choice. I reckon not having feelings for girls ever since I can remember. Always remember that the Bible and all religious books are just interpretations, people interpret things the way they like and like to discriminate minorities but use the ignorance and hatred of those individuals to keep on improving and being yourself. Emmanuel and Bless you Friend. 60 yrs old here who had the same exact experiences. One thing I learned that changed my life is if you REALLY ANALYSE the scriptures, loving is not the sin. It's the act (which by the way is in effect for M/F relations too). If you could learn to avoid the physical (which actually is one of the main tenants of Christianity), your entire life will change. You can still love anther man. Ask yourself, when is love EVER a sin??? 37 year relationship here, but God called my soul mate home last year. The devistation is indescribable, almost inhumane. It is only my faith that holds me toghether. Please belive in yourself. You are handsome, honest and mature. My prayers are with you, brother.

Christopher, Thank you so much for your story my beautiful man! I admire your intelligence and heart, we LGBT are as worthy as anyone else in this world to be happy, I suffered 33 years before coming out, and even after that I continued living in the straight world like a shadow because of the wounds of shame and rejection when I was young. I find myself at 56 never having experienced love, and living with the pain of feeling I missed out on life. I'm only now reaching out, I want to experience like and not just exist, thank you so much for your inspiration.

Hey. I am doing well Thank You for your support. It has been a long journey thus far and continues to be. I have been thinking about making another video as a follow up but will probably do so after I graduate in May. The support from friends has been amazing!! My family life is still very rough though. My parents still say its a choice and a sin. My Grandparents have been worse. The night I posted the video they called demanding I take it down and have since left me 2 long nasty emails that are one attack after another. I know it will take time and I am prepared to wait but with every Bible thumping text I get from my mom and other family members that continue to hate it hurts all the more.. If things don't get better soon with them I might have to make the difficult choice to shut them out.. Thank you again for your support. The greatest thing I have gotten out of this is hearing that I have inspired others. That really means alot to me.

Your young, educated and have everything going for you. These family members will tear you down if you let them -- don't. You have grown so much and been able to move away from all the absurd things you have been taught concerning your sexuality. You will find a soul mate who you can love and be loved by and have that marriage and family you want. Congratulations and best wishes.

I'm writing this the end of June, 2020. So I doubt you'll even see this. But I wanted to sincerely thank you for your honesty, courage and integrity. The pain that you experienced growing up, though horrific, has made you the strong person you are in this video. If you haven't already discovered the deep freedom of non-belief, I encourage you to explore it. No matter how much you try to rationalize or excuse religion, it will always disappoint you, judge you, and remain a shackle around your neck. So let go - you don't need it. And see how much true freedom and deep happiness there is for you to discover in atheism/agnosticism. This "break" may be absolutely necessary for your very survival as a gay person, not to mention your full self-realization. I wish you much love and genuine acceptance in your beautiful gay life, my friend. ❤️

Hi Christopher, I just came across your video today. So you are now a year down the road and the sound of things, you have graduated as well. Very proud of people like you and what you did. I'm almost 53, didn't "come out" to my family until I was 30. It didnt' go well at all. I've got a similar background as you just substitute Church of Christ for Southern Baptist. My mom wrote me a very long scathing letter condemning me to hell for the choices I was making and on and on. I lost several friends during the process as well. It took well over a year before my mom & I even spoke again and then for years after the relationship was strained. You know the funny thing, I finally relented and took my then partner, now husband, home to meet the family. I was scared more then than I was about coming out to them. After they met my Andy, almost overnight my relationship with my family was actually stronger than it had ever been. They love Andy as much (i think he is mom's favorite) as they do me. I cry every time I think about how wonderful my family has been to us. They genuinely love him and know without a doubt that he is absolutely the best thing that has ever happened in my life. I still from time to time let my mind fall back onto the religion that I was brought up in, and I have to admit, that those teachings can still haunt me. But in the end, I realize God creates out of love and not hate. I hope at this point in your life you've got that first great post-college job and maybe just maybe someone really close to your heart too. You seem like a great guy, someone I would definitely want to be friends with, someone that people can look up to as a role model. Keep up the good work. ~ John

Congrats on making this video! It's a huge step. I grew up in a christian home as well and went to a private Southern Baptist University. I prayed hard to become straight until finally I came to realize it was all crap. We were dupe'd into thinking and believing a certain way growing up. We were impressionable kids being force fed junk. Luckily in adulthood, we can really seek and learn the truth. I'm sending love and hugs.

The friends or family that shun you will lead to you making up your own family, one who acts not based on what is in books but on what human nature is. Don't waste your time on haters, they are not worth a second of your time... let them lose theirs by hating other people as the bigoted frightened and frustated persons they are. Your speech was very moving and shows how big your heart is. Salutations from the north of France. Olivier

Kia Ora Christopher! I come from an entirely different generation from you. When I was your age, the general consensus of society, as a whole, was extremely anti-Gay. At 19 years old, I was dismissed from the British Armed Services for the "blackmail risk" I posed to fellow soldiers. It didn't seem to occur to them that in allowing me to live openly and freely, there would be nothing to blackmail me for!? The situation is changing, rapidly and worldwide. Here in New Zealand, marriage is an equal right for every gender and orientation. More and more nations are becoming intolerant of intolerance (except those corrupted by a religious perversion - which happens to be the real sin). At this stage of your journey, Christopher it is not necessary to know all the answers, but it does help in being open to all the questions. In moving away from a place of religious intolerance to one of Spiritual curiosity, you will ultimately discover that you are a creature of natural beauty and there is nothing shameful in your capacity to love another human being who "just so happens" to be of the same gender! May you always have enough light, to illuminate the path ahead! Love. Ben (Auckland, New Zealand)

You are Gay, you are worthy of love, giving and receiving, you are normal, you are human etc etc. In my case, I only found peace when I came out. The nervous energy that I used in hiding my secret was now free to flow into things that I loved, not deceit. It Does Get Better, sounds corny, but it is the truth. Warmest wishes to you for a happy and safe life full of love. You've earned it and deserve it.

Thanks for sharing this, I know it was difficult for you. I have known all my life that I was different. I never dated girls as such; they were friends. I grew up strict Catholic and was told gays were sinners. I tried to pray the gay away. I suffered depression and tried suicide ((I also have a slight disability and that played a part) thank God - not too seriously). I never acted on it, but I was sorely tested. I went to university and became more assured. I to university quite late, so when I was almost thirty I was ready to come out, but my brother beat me to it; because he came out due to having HIV and AIDS, I went back into the closet. I moved away a number of years later and came out at 40. Today, I am a happy man. I have my faith, but I no longer do the church part (long story but that is how I dealt with the Christian upbringing). Today, I have my faith. I believe God created me for me and that he doesn't make junk and thus I am as I was meant to be. I no longer believe that God hates gays: Love is love. I am not perfect (no one is). I have faith and that is all that matters. You are loved. You are loved by hopefully some family or extended family, you are loved by friends and you are loved by those people you have touched with your story. I hope you have found peace, love and joy that you so richly deserved. Virtual hugs. A "friend". Bob

You got it right Christopher. Keep on keepin on! Soon you'll realize that this video and being out really doesn't "change my life dramatically or permanently" . Theres nothing new under the sun, including being gay and it's as normal as the air we breath. I don't know you but I am proud of you and your courage!

Your vulnerability was touching. You seem like a great guy. I'm a conservative Christian, and I would LOVE to be your friend! I hope you accept.

Your story is amazing. It is difficult hiding who you are as a individual. When I came out, I felt a sense of relief. You will find your soulmate one day.

Proud of you for sharing this!! You are worthy of choosing whom you love - as is every other person! My son came out to me when he was 18 yrs. old - and honestly I had always know he would do that one day although he too, "dated" girls, etc. Luckily, we had raised him although Catholic - always sharing that we didn't believe everything they preached - and included that being gay was not a choice, everyone deserved to love who they love. If you've never been to Provincetown, MA - you should visit! It's a very accepting and beautiful community!!! Also, you may know me from Ancestry DNA....please connect!! JC

Hey, thank you for sharing this. Haven't come out yet but this is soooo inspiring, I wished I could be the brave. And yes, I want to have a guy to hold hands with, take care when he's sick (and when I am), and marry him and build a little family. Thank you.

Christopher, that was beautiful. Like you, I went through the same Southern Baptist 'guilt-trip'. I caught hell growing up in an insane, abusive environment. I was terrified to admit my sexuality and did not do so for years. I have been in love several times but never managed to find that someone special I really needed to find. I am elderly now and finding that special person is now my number one priority. All the best, my friend.

I am sorry for what you have been through... I am so greatful that we have youtube where we can share our stories, and be brave. I am Christian, finish Bible college, and was so scare for long time... But last 3 years I finally made peace with God, I start accept myself for who I am. I came out of closet when i was 30. In my family my dad and brother accepted fine, mom was scared that she lost me. It took almost 2 years for her to understand that I am exacly the same and nothing change. I belive in God and love, and I pray today for every young man who is in my shoes today afraid to be rejected. I pray that Church stop to be so spitful but more accepting, maybe than gay guys wouldnt go "banana" thinking why should I try be good I am going to hell anyway. Thank you for your story. I hope your life change in good way. If gets hard dont be shy ask for help, least I can do talk and pray with you. It's gets better!

Hey Christopher, I know this is late but I will tell you though, a friend of mine came out to me once and I was shocked but I'm still friends with him, he's still the same person I've known since I was a kid just like you're still the same person too. The people who will be there for you are the ones who love you unconditionally no matter what warts and all. My kid brother and I both are on the Autism Spectrum, I have Asperger's Syndrome, a mild form of autism, and my brother has severe autism, my point is everyone, straight or gay, special needs or normal, deserve and need to be loved unconditionally, especially when it comes to when people become parents themselves, unconditional love is for everyone!

Christopher, you're a giant who stands on the shoulders of the giants who came before you. I've been out for 40 years. I'm glad to see that you've still got videos coming out in 2020.

I feel really bad for that young boy who'd been taught lies merely for religious propaganda. I'm so happy for you!! You can live your truth now. I'm 18 and yet to be free from the closet. You gave me hope :)

Loved your story bud. I went thru so many of the same things you talked about. I want you to remember, that DIFFERENT IS GOOD! Can you imagine how boring, and sad, it would be if we were all the same? Keep the faith my friend, (and don't get me started on religion; I grew up fundamental Baptist) and often existed with feelings of fear and guilt...and shame. I believed I was "damaged goods." Well now I say, if you don't like or accept me for who I am, get over it!

Cristopher, you are very brave. It saddens me to see that people use religion to judge others, for instance, you for being gay. I know first hand how hard it is to come out but let me tell you that it will get better. The worst is behind you... and you are lucky too in that this new generation is more open towards gay people. I applaud your strength and your sensitivity, you are a beautiful man. Live your life without shame as you are a beautiful human being and God loves you.

Thank you for posting this. I found it very moving, with many thoughts about my own upbringing in a Christian household. I do hope you find your soul mate, as I have found mine (together 12 years now). Just be true to yourself and you will (if you haven't already). I hope there is an update video. I will search for it.
