OK, tip from a long-time house renovator. The very first task is to order the waste bin from the local waste disposal company. That way, you move the debris directly into the bin and never need to move it again.

Some suggestions: Old carpet can hold lots of bad stuff in it: mold spores, bacteria, toxic dust, etc.. Best to wear a good air filter mask when cutting or handling lots of old carpet and also doing other work around the house. You don't want to get carpet dust into your lungs. Living in semi-wilderness areas can be problematic. Best to make friends with your neighbors, and find out from them what problems with wild life they have had and how they deal with it. People who live in the same area will have lots of information that you can't get anywhere else. For instance, when was the last time your neighbors were given a warning to evacuate because of a nearby forest fire?

Welcome to the Pacific Northwest, Andrew! I hopwe that you will love the Pacific Northwest as much as I do. I moved here in 1997 and i plan on spending the rest of my days here. The region is spectacularly beautiful, as you have noted, with beauty in every season, with long summer twilight. I've lived in Sammamish (consistently rated one of the ten best cities its size in the entire country) on Seattle's Eastside for 24 years. Even after all these years i still drive around with my mouth agape at the jaw-dropping beauty, thinking "Wow! I get to live here!" The weather is temperate all-year round and it is seldom humid. For someone who enjoys the outdoors, as you do, this is paradise. For someone wjp likes to travel, as you do, Delta's rivalry with Alaska Airlines give us non-stop travel all over the U.S, Canada, Mexico, Asia and Europe. Because of Seattle's location our flights to Asia are the shortest of any city in the lower 48 and flights to Europe are the shortest in the West. If you appreciate diversity and all the marvelous gifts that immigrants bring from their homelands to enrich our culture, then you will love it here. If you believe that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, national or racial background, family status, sexual orientation or identity is deserving of respect, dignity, equal access under the law, then this is the place for you. If you appreciate good, fresh seafood, locally sourced produce, fruit, berries, fine dining with cuisines from all over the world and locally grown and produced wines that are recognized worldwide as being among the finest, then you are in the right place! If living in a region that is a world-leading center of high-tech, aviation and space flight innovation, as well as a leader in bio-technology development and health care, then this is it. The early reasearch on COVID-19 as well as the revolutionary breakthrough in MRNA technology that brought us the Pfizer and Moderna Vaccines in record time, in spite of and not because of the Trump administration, yep, developed, right here at the University of Washington. As a health care professional yourself, this should make the region a good choice. If this all sounds too good to be true, I know that the region has its issues. but i believe you have made a wonderful choice that you will never regret! Andrew, welcome to Washington and Welcome home!

If you are going to purchase power tools for jobs around the house, stick with one brand that has a wide selection of tools. If you buy different brands, you will be buying multiple batteries that won’t be interchangeable. Stick with one brand, I would suggest DeWalt, Milwaukee, or Ryobi. They each offer a great selection of tools. Also, Johnson & Johnson has a great selection of Bandaids and Bandages; Bactine is a good antiseptic, and it contains Lidocaine.

WA & OR are both gorgeous states (lived there 6 years), but are run by Marxists loons. Nature is king, and having lots of acreage is a huge plus. I am sure it will turn into something wonderful. Congrats on moving to Washington State. I lived in Seattle from '96 to '01. IMPORTANT TIP: Since you're much closer to Mt. Reiner. Know you exit path for when it erupts. (It is an active volcano that erupts on a regular schedule. And it's a several centuries over due for another eruption. But then again, it may be another century or more before it blows. BUT, it's overdue as of now!) For reference, watch the Pierce Brosnan/Linda Hamilton 1997 file "Dante's Peak". (It came out while I was living there and Washingtonians were saying how realistic that film was, and was based on Mt. St. Hellen's eruption in the 1980's.) And Mt. Reiner is known for when it blows, it blows it top. And they say, from past eruptions, they have found boulders the size of a small car had fallen as far as Tacoma WA from the volcano. So, know you exit for when it blows! Watch out for the pyroclastic flows! (See the movie to learn about that.) It's not just the Earthquakes and Tsunamis you have to worry about here in Puget Sound. It's also the Volcanos. There are plenty of resources online to learn about the dangers of Mt. Reiner as a volcano. Check it out. (Not trying to trash that you moved there. I'm insanely jealous watching this. I would move back there in a moment if I could.) Enjoy Washington State. It is the "Evergreen" state. (Also, further away from the salt water, the more bugs. Mt. Reiner has a lot of bugs when I went down to hike around it.)
