Hey Robert, an idea for a series: A Worshipper's Guide to the Faiths of Westeros (and Essos). You said that you very much enjoyed the traveller's guide and this could have a similar format. I did mention this several times in the chat but every time I said it, it was just before you launched into a soliloquy so you may not have seen it. Sorry to be spamming you if you did. Of course, it may be a terrible idea or just not what you want. But if it anybody could do it...

I'm running a D&D homebrew set in the world of ice and fire. One of my players desperately wanted to be a member of House Velaryon, so we made his character a "half-triton" hybrid of the Merlin King and the Velaryons. The group is about to run into Ser Marlon Manderly....just for his helm

54:15 Does anybody else think that Robert is way off on this? There is nothing in that passage that gives the impression that Aemon suddenly realizes Jon is a Targaryen. He's talking about how he's about to die. The whole quote is "I should not have left the Wall. Lord Snow could not have known, but I should have seen it. Fire consumes, but ice preserves. The Wall... but it is too late to go running back. The Stranger waits outside my door and will not be denied." "I should not have left the Wall...too late to go running back now" Why would any of this pertain to Jon being a Targaryen? It reads exactly like he just discovered that the Wall was extending his life.
@flintedsteel4 жыл бұрын
I took it the same way. I used to wonder if perhaps he figured out Jon might be assassinated but the "Ice preserves" quote does seem to be about the cold keeping him alive (which is bizarre considering his dragon blood but thats another discussion entirely)

Jojen calls Bran your Grace because Bran is a king. He is the King of The North. If he is not the king of the northern region, then he is the prince. Bran Stark comes from a royal blood line as his brother was coronated King of the North. The king reference has numerous pragmatic angles as well as arcane ones(by the lore and story mechanics)

Not once they talk about House Velaryon in the series. Or the Hightowers.
@theinvisiblewoman67834 жыл бұрын
They do talk about house Velaryon in the books. I’m reading A Feast for Crows again because I know more about the world than I did when I first read them. Jamie talks to a man who works down in the black cells named Longwaters which was a couple of generations bastard of a Velaryon and and Targaryen princess we read about in A world of Ice and Fire and will get more details in Fire and Blood vol 2. Beniffer Longwaters even tells Jamie of his great grandmother being a Targaryen Princess (Elaina Targaryen and Alyn Velarion were his great grandparents) but Jamie doesn’t believe him and doesn’t want to hear it. And in a Cersei chapter she thinks she sees Rhaegar talking to a Tyrell girl but it is Aurane Waters a bastard of House Velayrion who I believe shows up more than once. Also there is Monford and Monterys Velarion who are with Stannis. They also talk about the Hightower’s a few times that Lord Hightower and his daughter have locked themselves in the tower in the current books. Pycell tells Jamie that when a plague came to Oldtown he locked the city so the disease couldn’t spread past their city. But despite he made the right call, as soon as he opened the city again the people pulled him and his son of their horses and murdered them.

I couldn’t quote it for fact but after the Dance house Valeryon true heirs died out and a bastard was legitimized. It seemed like the Targaryen marriages dropped right after that. But we don’t have Fire and Blood 2 yet so don’t quote me. Aegon the 3rd seemed to be the last king to marry a Velaryon. Then there was Aegon 4th Can’t keep it in his pants. King Daeron and Princess Daenerys married Martells to finically unite Dorne. We don’t know Baelor’s wife. Markar was married to a Dayne. Aegon the 5th married a Blackwood. Duncan married Jenny, one son was gay and Jaeherys insisted on marrying his sister and forced Arys to marry Rhaella. People talk about Targaryens like all they did was marry brothers and sisters. But if you really go over it, it was a lot less of that than people talk like it was.

Watching this in bits over many days, I don't recall the timing of Bran being called your Grace, but if it was after Robb's death he'd be King in the North at that point wouldn't he (for those not familiar with the will, which assumed Bran and Rickon were dead anyway)

I'm curious how did their house keep the valyrian features did they marry only the houses from valyria or did they like the targaryens marry siblings together
@robbypodobinski8244 жыл бұрын
There's not a single mention of siblings marrying in house valeron. They and the targaryans have the valyrian look. Years and years of intermarrying between the 2 familys definitely kept the look in the family. Also, it's a story. Real world science and logic dosnt always matter 🙂

I’ve always found it interesting that “Velaryon” is so close to “Valyrian”. Makes me wonder if maybe the Velaryons were actually a top echelon house in Valyria but somehow lost their dragons and had to escape. I want to know more about why the left Valyria.
@sophiawilson86964 жыл бұрын
@@shananika this a little that I know that were vessels to the Targaryens Family. But they weren't Dragon Lord's. They rule the Sea with their ships. The Targaryens brought with the two other families with them. To learn more about them you look at the Valyria's past there were 48 noble families of Dragons Riders and they were fighting each other for power. I think they do series about Valyria but Nooooo!!. Looks like the name for House Velaryon is simply related linguistically to the other House names we know but just happens to start with a "V". Targary / Velary / Belaery are the beginnings of the 3 Valyrian House names we know so far, which all have the "ary" segment.

Djinn-1 They are on the wiki but there is little information about apart from their Valyrian origin. I think due to their overall little importance, House Celtigar were a rank below House Velaryon in Valyria.
