37:23 YES. I agree with this so much. It's hard for me to buy into the idea that Aegon really is who he says he is (or that he's the ToJ baby) because it just fits so well thematically that F Aegon just turns out to be a false dragon. So much of GRRM's story is about how totally failed a system dynastic succession is. It just doesn't make any sense for this perfect potential ruler to be the rightful king of Westeros with the rest of the story. I'm not even sure he's a Blackfyre. I actually think he might really and truly be nobody at all, with no even tertiary claim to the throne.
@psychkosys Жыл бұрын
He's a Blackfyre...whether he knows it or not remains to be seen, but I think it would be brilliant of GRRM if he doesn't know. The reason he is a Blackfyre is because the Golden Company took a blood vow to avenge Bittersteel by placing a Blackfyre on the throne. That is why they broke their contract and follow (F)Aegon, whether on information provided by Illyrio or from his own lips, the Golden Company know he is descended from the Blackfyres.

If Illyrio has been working with Aegon all these years to get (F)Aegon on the throne, then what was his purpose in helping Vicerys and Daenerys? Why arrange the marriage with Drogo with the purpose of embarking on a Dhothraki invasion? Was it to weaken Westeros forces in advance (something The War of the Five Kings ended up doing, anyway)? Was it to establish Vicerys as a "bad king" so F(Aegon) could come in and save the day?
@alanhiggs58263 жыл бұрын
I believe either both outcomes were what Illyrio, Varys, and the Golden Company would want. So they could place a Blackfire pretended (Fe) agon on the Iron Throne. I also think the secret to Young Griff's true identify is in plain sight whe relating the history of Westeros. All the Blackfire's are called pretenders when mentioned in their past rebellions. This is essentially what Young Griff is. A black dragon pretending to be a red. Which in turn might lead Danery's and the possible Euron partnership to destroy King's Landing.

An empire that also seemed to have had dragons and dragonriders. And I suspect the purple eyes mark their abilities. Not that you need to have purple eyes to have those abilities, but I suspect purple eyes are far more common in lines that have them and/or indicate particularly strong abilities. G R R Martin often utilises inspiration from history, particularly from the Wars of the Roses. Aegons storyline is very similiar to the youngest prince in tower (the ones who disappeared during the reign of Richard III). Years after their disappearance a man claiming to be the youngest prince came to claim the English throne from Henry VII. He gathered support from his supposed extended family and was hosted by European Royalty and even given arms and a noble wife. He invaded England but was captured and held prisoner before being executed. There are a lot more similarities between the two. There could also be a similiarity between the sweat and greyscale which was bought to England by the invading Henry VII, who could be compared to Danerys, especially in regard to the relationship between Henry VII and this imposter.

@@goatmc Jon is still very much a Stark which makes it all the more interesting , beyond possibly the whole Sara Snow situation (which is not totally clear) one of the few unions of Fire & Ice and the literal embodiment of the Song of Ice & Fire. His mother is a Stark , raised in Winterfell and character / traits wise more a Stark than any of Ned's biological children. That will take the claim to a whole other level being likely the heir to Winterfell until any of Ned's children legitimately resurface where many become aware of it and could be like the show he ends up being proclaimed King in the North and then to find out to have a claim to the Iron throne itself through his paternal Targ heritage. Why would varys swap just one baby, I realise he is the heir but nothing is certain in this realm, any number of illnesses could kill this child while he growing so why not save the son and the daughter of the king. It seems unlikely to me that he would allow one child to die when he had the opportunity to save her. It has been a few years since I read the books but I always questioned this.
@alexb36044 жыл бұрын
jodie , I think it comes down to being able to actually being able to swap out and pass off a baby and / or child without being found out. Its much easier to swap out and those believe the identity of a few month old baby compared to a few year old child for one , also not sure Varys would care much beyond facilitating his own plot. That being said its much less likely any swap happened in this circumstance anyway , it much more plausible that he is Illiyrio's son with his Valyrian looking wife or some Targ / Valyrian looking child found over in Essos ; which in the books would be fairly easy to come upon.

I find it curious that Varys wouldn’t reveal himself to be a Blackfyre himself, if he indeed is one to Kevin & reveal that the Blackfyre & the King who wielded The Sword was here to reclaim his birthright that began by with Bittersteel & ends with me finally putting the legitimate heir on his rightful place on the Iron Throne. Or he goes into a monologue about The piss water prince. “I knew what Aerys meant to do & I knew the vile of the Lannister’s so I switched the two babes for a barrel of arbor gold. And he will save the realm.” Then he could go into his other part of the monologue. “And oh by the way Aegon will make a great king, much better than anything that’ll come.” from the Tonman era. So either scenario I’m surprised he didn’t give up more of a reason for being so fateful to Aegon. After all, he first had to tear apart the realm through war just to place Aegon on the throne. If it was peace he wanted, Robert had been providing that, yet Varys , Illyrio & Jon Con had been raising Aegon for kingship since his birth. Why do that if not to just make a power play for your own blood, blood that you believe to be royal & that of the dragon? Of course GRRM didn’t want to give away the game, that’s why we’re here discussing possibilities for this character & that. It’s great writing.

Here you have an actual magical being in Dany that was reborn in fire with three dragons yet wrongly view the comet as a sign of a path she must take. I wished they would have drawn upon that toward the end of the show. They clearly lost the narrative.

The main problem with fAegon Blackfyre is: why Varys didn't reveal himself as a Blackfyre (or a Blackfyre supporter) to Kevan when he murdered him? You don't keep secrets to the dead. Also, why in the world they didn't kill Viserys and Dany instead of rising them? Illyrio could had been killed by Robert just for being loyal to the Targs, and he was planning to destroy the targs all the time? It's illogical. Maybe giving them to the Dothraki was a way of killing them, but he waited too long to do that. And, finally, why use JonCon? To make more legitimate the claim, because he was oh-so-loyal to Rhaegar? But it is an unjustified risk having your most loyal supporters bonded by a lie. Surely Illyrio could find thousands of good commanders to the Blackfyre army in any city of Essos. I really love the Blackfyre theory. It will be spectacular if revealed to be true. But there are inconsistencies.
@mr.plainview22684 жыл бұрын
1: Varys knows the Blackfyres have almost no support left in Westeros. They lost all 5 of their rebellions bc the Targaryen Dynasty had better support everytime. When the real Aegon was killed it was literally to good of an opportunity to pass up. If Faegon is seen to be an actual Targ instead of a Blackfyre(except to golden co, Blackfyre diehards, Varys & Illyrio) he will gain all the advantages of Royal legitimacy that the Blackfyres never had; plus the supporters of House Targryen. Varys wasn't lying to Kevan in particuluar, he was putting on a show for the lil' birds (and probably getting some revenge on the Lannisters; Varys loves to revel in other character's misery, while pretending to be compassionate). The lil' birds hear the rightful heir is alive & coming to save Westeros, & the ones who can talk will tell that tale; building up Faegon's mystique & spread the word of his cause/ claim. Plus as I said it's obvious that Varys hates the Lannisters (except maybe his best frenemy Tyrion)and needs to cause division amongst the crown's supporters. He orchestrated Tyrion & Twyin's final showdown, he constantly informed on Cersei & Tyrion to one another (& informed on both of them to Tywin lol). He has always played both sides! It's not that he's lying to a deadman so much as he's putting on a mummer's farce to build up Faegon to the kids in the room. Although he does seem to enjoy metaphorically "twisting the knife" on Kevan, just like he did with Ned. After all major players in the GOT like Tywin, Tyrion, Ned, & Kevan have been screwing up Varys plans through out the story. Varys even said he couldn't take the chance that Kevan might actually fix the problems in King's Landing and bind the realm to Tommen. 2: He did not want to kill Viserys bc he wanted him and Drogo to be Faegon's version of the mummer's dragon (a unlikable & foreign enemy for the hero to vanquish). If Viserys and Drogo invaded they would have little support and be seen as invaders, making it easier for a better alternative like Faegon to gain support when he eventually fought them. Plus after they would have defeated V & D Faegon could marry Dany which would bind the two groups together and make Faegon look even more like Rhaegar's rightful heir. When Faegon married Dany people would most likely stop questioning whether he's legit or not, bc why would Dany marry a fake? 3: Jon Con serves the same purpose as marrying Dany, or posessing Blackfyre; it makes Faegon look legitimate. Not to mention Jon Con is so loyal to Rhaegar that he is willing to do anything (forsake his honor, his house's honor, or become the man he hates most: Tywin) to put Faegon on the Throne, end Robert's line, & make up for failing Rhaegar/ the Targaryen Dynasty. Not to mention he's capable, tactical, he's grown more experienced, he's been Hand once before (for Faegon's supposed Grandfather), & as I stated above the most important thing is that he's loyal to a fault. I believe him being loyal to Faegon is what will be Varys and Illyrio's eventual downfall, bc if I know if I was in Jon Con's shoes my first act as Hand would be to get rid of those two before they betrayed Faegon. I really don't see any inconsistencies w/ the Blackfyre theory, as a matter of fact I see the opposite.

If he's just going to be the guy in the Red Keep when Daeny torches the city, I don't think it matters that they just left Cersi there since she goes back to the beginning of the story.

I do not understand the current trend among asoiaf content creators and livestreams.. I cannot be the only one who doesn't enjoy these. Look at the view count compared to actual content. 1/4th of the views on a good one, sometimes waaaaay less. I don't get it.
