Brilliant as always Keith, it really shows everything it takes to run an intensive service railway.

Thanks for posting this - never thought that I was going to sit through a 45 minute video on a model engineering society! But it was constantly fascinating, and I am in awe of the millions of man hours that must have been expended to achieve the grand vision, from the infrastructure to the rolling stock and the locomotives, from both those who are still with us, and those who are sadly not. You must be very proud to have achieved this.

Been a few years since I last visited Gilling East, but it's nice to see the Mainline Rally is still going, and still attracting some very nice visitors.

Fantastic video. Great that shows all the aspects of running the railway too, loco shed, shunting yards and signal box operation

Cheers Mike, Took a few days to edit. some artistic licence in the edit especially with the signals and one of the phone calls 🙂

I worked at Ampleforth School for a couple of years and everytime i drove to the Gilling School I'd glance in here but thought it was just a small loop. By hell its impressive! Feel like I've missed out now not having a good look when you all have been playing on the lines!

The interior detail on the coaches down to the crockery in the restaurant cars is amazing, I bet when BR were scrapping Mk1 stock wholesale model coaches like these commercially produced would be more expensive. All that weight of train and driver pulled by a steam boiler not much bigger than a couple of bean cans! Ladies and Gentlemen of the large scale model railway movement, I salute you.

Question about the steam locos, as they are real coal burning locos, does the boiler have to be inspected and certified just the same as the full size counterparts?
@MattF127652 ай бұрын
Yes, they have a yearly boiler test to twice working pressure and a hydraulic test every 4 years.

@@MattF12765 Thanks Mat, I don't know all the ins and outs, I'm still learning.
@simonwass63152 ай бұрын
@MattF12765 yearly is just a cold exam followed by a safety valve accumulation test, not a hydraulic which after the 1st at 2x is 1.5x wp.
