People, do you realize this track is a quarter of a century old and can still kill the dance floor and is better than most of the tracks being produced today!? Hauntingly simplistic but way ahead of its time! Long live true house music!

I'm a DJ who decided for now to dig only in the late 80s et not go beyond the '95. I work only on vinyl. I take risks using only this high standard music for the dancefloor and let me tell you, people do realize only after the DJ switch. This music has to be teached at school, because it drawned under all of this bedroom music made by self-taught producers...nothing to do with the work of real composers, people actually able to read, write and play music havin' thick and complexe structures! The audience can understand, the problem now are music selling platforms, producers and DJs :) Long live true house music!

Marshall Jefferson is the Quincy Jones of first generation house music.
@uv77mc8511 ай бұрын
Now its nearly 40 years since it was released and it still stands as probably the best house EP. Marshall Jefferson was a genius for this type of thing. This wasn't as big as Adonis or Move your body or the acid stuff but it holds up much better over time.

After 418 songs (the count at time of commenting) I've finally reached the end of my Underground Classics House journey. An incredible amount of amazing songs, most of which I've never heard before and have subsequently added to my own playlists for repeat listens. Thank you Mr.Uploader for compiling a wonderful list of tunes from this important musical moment in history. I await for more with great anticipation!

Marshall Jefferson has told in many interviews that all the tracks on this EP he made solo - no Vince Lawrence or Adonis. Vince Lawrence helped put this out on Trax. Adonis was supposed to put two of his own tracks on the B-side, including 'No Way Back' but then he realized the potential hit in his track and decided to pull it in the last minute for his own solo release. Marshall Jefferson put 'Free Yourself' and 'Under You' quickly together so the EP could be complete. That's why these tracks are simplistic and minimal in their nature. But very hot tracks some early deep house right here!

@@AdonisRecordings No you weren't in the studio for Free Yourself, Under You, and R U Hot Enough. "My Space" I put together from your bass line (I added the top line) and finished the track AND gave you songwriters credit (you're welcome) which you're still probably collecting today as I didn't want to work with you after you pulled "No Way Back" from the E.P. and i hope you haven't forgotten how arrogant you were after "No Way Back" came out. Also you can't name a single part or even drum that you played on any of those tracks so stop misleading people.

Me and I don't know you Mike gee buy this is the free yourself I remember also...and the title speaks for itself...cause that's exact what you did when Larry played this...especially when Larry at 6:30 am would calm down the club and play something just for you to listen too..while you get some punch or something...then he would put on the sound of a thunderstorm...then you knew he was about to take you to the place again..and sometimes he would start back off with this song

WOW... that's what makes the Garage so legendary, I've been to the Garage just once and I believe the people who told me that I didn't get the full treatment music wise BUT!!! can tell from that one visit the pure magic of moment. Don't feel bad for me though because I got (what I consider along with many others, in and outside the scene) an experience that was just as great at Club Zanzibar.

One of the best electronic tracks ever made. It has a magical feel to it which is hard to do with the few basic 80s synths that were used on this. Those phased cymbals still sound amazing, some sort of Eventide fx unit.

Have only heard this at 2 clubs , Shelter and Zanzibar, didn't like it at Shelter as Steve Dash subs didn't equal the lows of Richard Long's (mids and the highs did though) , the kids danced to it better at Shelter. But musically ,for me anyway, it was deeper at Club Zanzibar.
