A lot of people try to harp about how expendable and poorly treated Chase was in the early seasons but in reality there are layers of depth to House and Chase’s interaction throughout the show and House always gave Chase exactly what he needed. Chase was the first of the original three that House hired, claiming it was purely because he had a recommendation from his father. But we all know that House handpicks his team and guides them to their own form of happiness while never able to find his own. Chase had problems with his father and because of that, his first instinct at every turn was to try and prove himself to House or earn favor with him. He kissed up to his boss whenever possible, never liked to speak candidly to him, and avoided conflict with House whenever possible even though he’s perfectly fine being harsh with the rest of the team and even patients. House always takes notice of Chase’s attempts and yet never gives him what he wants, the praises even when Chase does well for himself. He constantly administers tough love to Chase by being withholding and even though it forces Chase to sometimes feel the need to rebel or lash out, it was what was best for him. Eventually Chase gives up on trying to prove himself to House and becomes his own man, no longer concerned with what any other man feels about him because he’s come to terms with his own demons and makes his own decisions. He stops idolizing House and learns the lesson over a long period of growth, the lesson being that just because he had an absentee father doesn’t mean he needs a father figure. By the end of the show, House is not just his boss again but they’re also on some level friends with mutual respect. House helped arrange and also attended Chase’s bachelor party, he protected Chase from consequences when it mattered, and he let Chase back on the team at a low point in his life where he had lost Cameron.

and truthfully, that is how it should be. Donators that give that much to such a place basically are keeping it afloat, so they should have such input into its workings. Hospitals have to be run and financed by someone, if it isn't the government then it has to be private investors and it has to make money to stay in "business". Most private hospitals stay working from the donations of others, not from the normal day to day billing of patients, many of who can't pay or don't pay etc. It's a horrible broken system and has been for years in most countries because your trying to both be a profitable business and a helpful one. Sadly it doesn't work. Any other business where someone gets your service and doesn't pay you wouldn't exist. Imagine a car dealership selling someone a car, that someone can't pay, and the car dealership can't get the car back or force them to pay. Wouldn't ever happen.

$100M is a lot of money. Chairman isn’t actually an executive position as demonstrated in these types of shows. IRL a chairman speaks on behalf of a board but they don’t actually vote on decisions. He doesn’t have to be an expert. He just has to be trusted to steer the board to function properly. In fact it is often helpful when chairmen aren’t experts in the main area of business. Experts tend to get caught up in the details of the execution of their expertise. Chairmen need to be above that.

Even if no other Hospital took him, he is literally a genius. Remember when he learned cooking? He could be a chef, he could be an accountant, he could be a private investigator, he could even be a college proffessor. Dr. House has an AMAZING mind and skillset that goes beyond being liked as a person. My best guess as to why he stays at the Hospital is access to drugs, the people he works with, and helping people.......I that order. If the people left it would be drugs, he eventually tried to go clean. He is being limited in how many people he can help because of his personality, so he leaves. House has never truly lost all three until the very end of the series. There was always someone until he is threatened with real jail time and Wilson was going to die before he got out. It's not like he planned to live as a dead person for the rest of his life after Wilson. He just wouldn't be a doctor. He was over his addiction by that time I am pretty sure, and jail time would ruin his time to be with Wilson. People, saving people, and drugs were all gone. There are better ways to find puzzles without eternally pissing off the entirety of the medical Community.

This episode was awesome! It reflects the reality of many healthcare systems around the world today. It's a perfect example of what happens to a medical institution when it's run with business in mind (he's a business man and clearly has no experience/background in healthcare provision, policy, public health, etc.). The focus is on keeping hospital budgets in the black by opting for budget cuts, staff cuts, sticking to rigid guidelines and so on. vs looking at the bigger picture and focusing on patient care and long-term results. This is why we have shortages in healthcare staff, not enough beds and long wait times in the ER and for electives (at least it's the case in Canada or with the NHS in the UK for example. Universal HC is awesome but our current wait times are outrageous. Covid only made it worse...). It creates stressful work environments, burnout and feelings of hopelessness amongst staff.

Volger acting like he wants the hospital to run well and make money, then tearing employees and their teams apart, sowing discord and mistrust. He's the worst kind of manager. Chi Mcbride did such a good job being an a-hole.

I work for the NHS in the UK and this scene always frightens me, the fact that in America someone with money can walk onto a ward and start reading patient information, this guy isn’t a clinician in any respect, it’s beyond inappropriate he even be in the room looking at the patient, let alone learning their medical history and telling his doctors what to do
@koborkutya73383 жыл бұрын
US is crazy man but this is just a TV series. Actual fighter pilots don't go maverick. Actual astronauts don't fly around like cowboys or start crying due to a malfunction. Actual investors don't walk into wards like this. They coerce their will in far more indirect and irresistible manners but don't make themselves visible like this.
@getitboy833 жыл бұрын
Actually, HIPAA prohibits any doctor from randomly viewing a patient’s medical history without the patient’s permission, unless absolutely necessary. So, in this scene, Volgler actually committed a crime.

2:56 if there are 4 people including himself, and we assume his 3 underlings all make about the same and he makes more, and a 17% cut across all 4 yields the same savings as letting go of a single underling, that means he alone makes nearly 3x as much as each of his underlings 😳.

You see this is why hospitals accept donations, but never the strings attached because now this guy is using his influence on a personal mission against someone for personal reasons. So he is not only abusing his power as a benefactor, but also as a board member to get rid of a doctor who is not up to their standards even though his so called "unprofessionalism" is out weighed by his success to treating patient, and saving their lives. And to add on top of that when he disturbed the guy who was helping that girl listen to what he said when he read her medical chart he has no idea what is ailing her, and yet instead of letting professionals do their jobs he is treating them like he knows their jobs better than them.
