✨Visit www.odoo.com/r/t8mR to create your website for free today with @Odoo and experience the power of a truly intuitive management platform! CORRECTION: I mirrored the ships (the torpedoes shoot towards the islands, which should have been starboard, however the islands are set to port). It's my mistake, something went wrong during the rendering and I had to re-do the render right before uploading. I should have postponed the video for a week and simply missed a week of uploading, but I only caught the mirroring error after I published the video. It's a shame, the video took a really long time to create and now there's a silly mistake in there with the islands + torpedoes. U.S. carrier islands are always on starboard, not port.

I love the videos. One small quibble… the islands on the Wasp and Hornet are shown on the port side when they have always been on the starboard side for all American aircraft carriers.
@logancody8841
@logancody8841 3 ай бұрын
You're absolutely right, and I consider it a rather large "quibble." There is a very definite reason why the islands are positioned on the starboard side of the flight deck. The pilot's applying full engine power causes the engine torque to roll (Turn) the aircraft to the left. This rolling tendency is exacerbated at slow airspeeds such as a wave-off during a landing approach. So, in the hands of an inexperienced pilot, a wave-off can result in the aircraft heading directly for the islands if they had been located on the port (Left) side.

not to mention, they are being hit on the port side, not starboard side. The carriers are sailing backwards in the video. Leaves a lot to be disired when the animation does not match up to the actual events.

EVERYTHING about the description and portrayal are wrong, UNLESS Wasp was running in reverse(!). I-19’s torpedoes approached Wasp from the PORT side (at least, as shown here). PLUS, the carrier’s island is depicted as being on the port side as well, which was NEVER the case; with U.S. carriers, the island was ALWAYS to starboard. Other than that, the data presented is accurate. I have enjoyed other HoH videos mightily, so will extend the benefit of the doubt for having an off day. Is it possible that these lapses can be corrected? The battle was significant, and fixing errata would be worth doing. Respectfully, RL

the I-19 launched the most successful 6 torpedo attack so far in history (before Torpedoes became electronic weapons) 1 torpedo in O'Brien (later sank) 1 in North Carolina (huge hole and out of action for months) and 3 in Wasp (who went to the bottom). the captain of the Wasp was a man called Marc Mitscher, he would later become 1 of the task force leaders in Task Force 38/58 under Halsey and Spruance, i bet he remembered the Wasp well, his new ships would be Essex class, only about 10.000 tonnes bigger then Wasp, 4 knots faster, and based of the Yorktown class.

Helena has 3 turrets on her bow and 2 on her stern, Salt Lake City has 4 turrets . also, the 2 task forces where 11 miles apart, the USN was under the impression that there was a 2nd submarine as they could not believe a torpedo had traveled over 12 miles to get to the North Carolina.

I think the animation is wrong when the torpedo hits the three ships. The wasp was hit at point blank range by the sub whike the remaining torpedo spread that missed the wasp, travelled a few mikes until the torpedos end but at that distance, it managed to hit the obrien and the battleship north carolina.

Until he became national hero after sinking USS wasp. Later he commanded submarine I-29 to Europe and got awarded 2nd class Iron Cross by the German. Before he met the tragic end alongside all of I-29 crews by torpedoes from USS Sawfish just less than a year after I-19 had been sunk by depth charge of USS Redford with the lost of all hands in 1943.

@richardletaw4068
@richardletaw4068 3 ай бұрын
Wasn’t there another at least as successful in the same general area? A Japanese sub fired a spread of many. Some hit, while others missed. But those Long Lance torpedoes that missed, with their long range, continued on for miles, eventually striking a completely different U.S. formation which had no idea there was a threat. I claim memory issues as far as further information. But I *know* there was such an incident…

@@chloehennessey6813Even if the Shinano survived, the loss of Wasp was far more devastating. Japan was already certain to lose the war so the Shinano wasn’t going to be very effective. After Wasp was sunk, the US Navy was left with just Hornet and Enterprise in the Pacific. Soon, just the Enterprise. On top of that, the damage to North Carolina was severe enough to only leave 2 US battleships in the region, South Dakota and Washington. If the Hornet was sunk with the Wasp, the Enterprise might’ve been sunk at Santa Cruz with the US forced to bring Saratoga and Ranger to the Pacific. How effective they would’ve been compared to Enterprise is up for debate but the situation would’ve been much more dire.

The I-19 score the most successful torpedo attack ever by a submarine. But the crew didn't know it. Contrary to the video the O"Brien and the North Carolina were several miles away. The Japanese type 93 "Long Lance" torpedo had a range of 24km (13 miles). The I-19 aimed for the Wasp and got two hits. Two other torpedoes missed and just kept running and happened to hit the other two ships. The Japanese didn't know about North Carolina and O'Brien until after the war. Unfortunately I-19 was sunk about a year later so the crew never knew.

He told us some scenes about this famous war. On one scene, he was swimming in a pool of a stream with some elderly men were also present as guards when they were suddenly visited by a troop of America soldiers in camouflage uniforms. They were searching for strayed Japanese soldiers and downed pilots. They conversed and left disappeared in the forest. In another scene, he was sitting on branch of a tree by the beach when he saw the American warplanes in flying formations flying so low from east to west, back and forth celebrating victory day. He was blown off with the branch by the turbulence caused by the planes.😂😂😂. He said he won't forget the experience. Thank you.

The US Admiralty really wanted to keep Wasp in the Atlantic. They knew her design shortcomings made her less than Ideal for the type of war they were fighting in the Pacific. But they were out of carriers. It was either her or Ranger which was an even worse choice. It's not well known but by 1943 the US was down to three carriers only two of them operational so they borrowed HMS Victorious from the royal navy for 9 months until the Essex class came online in 1944.

Only negative American videos from you. I've never seen you make a video that shows an American triumph... not even 1. Why the bias?

In this video basically everything is wrong with the animations (bridges on the port side, switching port to starboard side and vice versa in general, relative position of the I-19 vs Wasp and Hornet and South Dakota - no, Hornet wasn't sailing between I-19 and Wasp...). Again very poor research as you showed before in all those videos about Java Sea battles :( It's really a pity...

Wasp had no business being in the Pacific...it was a floating time bomb.

Well, they did not have the luxury of many options. The other option was USS Ranger, a worse one.
