@robinholbrook65763 жыл бұрын
I even see it in brochures of homes for sale! Lid up! Can’t stand it! Our first home was 30 years old when we bought it. Went in to one of the bathrooms one time and there was something in there. Long story short: a rat had evidently gotten into the air pipe on the roof and fallen down and gotten into the toilet. The lid was down and it couldn’t get out. (Thank heavens!) If the lid had been up…who knows? I’ve heard of snakes coming up from toilets, too, especially in the south. And, of course, we drop things into the potty! I get small organizers from the dollar tree to put my Q-tips and cotton balls and within these cabinets and the best part about them is they are mirrored on the inside so you can open them up and see the back of your hair when you’re styling it or if you’re like me and cut and color at yourself 🙂That said, Next time I’m getting a vanity with storage below it!

The stickers and the electric cord "instructions" -- how are people that tolerant? That said Ironed sheets are so great. If you aren't feeling the ironed sheets I recommend starting with ironing the pillowcases and the top half of the top sheet. One you get how lovely it is you'll start ironing the whole set. The sheets can really be ironed folded over and maybe iron only the top of the duvet cover. Find little ways to make it easier. There are two more things to add to the list, Kleenex boxes on the back of the toilet or in the counters. Just find a nice ceramic container or anything better than the box to transfer the Kleenex into. The other one is outlet covers. What is it when the space is beautifully painted or wallpapered and the outlet is a blaring white. Paint them people! And when ever possible change out the outlet and/or light switch to compliment. There are so many choices that will finish your space to that upper level of beauty. These elements are the jewelry to a space. My biggest gripe is I see so many professional interior designers ignore this small detail.

I love your points. Kindred spirits!!!! Only one That doesn’t bother me is the paper towel on the counter. But I love an ironed bedding. I love a put together home, I love a good smelling home and the small details make all the difference

Thank for all you great tips! Have you done videos of sharing your individual rooms how you store stuff? For example your bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, etc.

Yes!! This is so funny. My mom is 92 and she has always wished there was a place to put her microwave. In her old home she had a large enough back room to have it on the way out to the garage. Anyways another pet peeve is paper towel sitting out. Dishes on a dish rack..make up not in a pretty basket to hide it. Always had her dishes dried right away...and her dish soap put away. She is picky what people may call her.. but I know it looked better. Another big one hanging up sheets or drapes out of the package..all the fold marks hanging up. Most young people do not own an iron..which is just sad...it makes everything look so much better. You appear polished. I say young people because I'm in my 50s and not one of my kids iron their clothes and I ironed everything when they was growing up. Even my pajammas. All their clothes ..everything.

So true! I feel I’m always ironing - especially cotton summer clothes this time of year - shorts, tees, tank tops, etc. I recently asked my daughter-in-law if she has a laundering secret because she NEVER seems to iron anything. Even if I dry clothes using delicate cycle & remove right away, the items seem to need a quick ironing once over. Btw, she did tell me she sends my son’s dress shirts to the dry cleaners for laundering.

I don’t know how young people don’t use an iron any more either. We have 4 kids that only iron if absolutely necessary, and I used to iron their play clothes, lol! I won’t leave the house looking wrinkled, and will pick a cruise line with laundry facilities over one without so that I can iron.......obsessive.......maybe a little, lol!

Agree agree!! I too remove or hide all stickers, keep my fridge clear, replace my dish cloth and towels when starting to wear, refill my hand soap dispensers, and corral my limited clutter in various wooden boxes, baskets, jars etc so my surfaces are clear and peaceful. Yes, homemaking, it’s an art and a beautiful way to live! Thanks for sharing Valentina!

Faux fur blankets are my daughter’s favorite but she also loves to use the fleece blankets with cute pictures or characters. I like to change my hand towels and kitchen towels everyday so it’s clean and basically paper towels are only for grease messes so I can throw away.

I definitely iron guest room bed sheets and pillow cases. You can actually accomplish this on the bed instead of an ironing board.

I agree. Better still, with a steamer. 😊

My grandmother ironed the sheets as well with starch water. They smelled soooo good.

@ FM VTampa Your grandmother...ummm - a precious and nostalgic thought! Well, nowadays, count it as a day of inspiration when the house dwellers even launder the bed linen. Ironing? Forget it! (Not advocating iron or not iron sheets. My point is that the younger generations are just lazy.
@TheFvtampa3 жыл бұрын
@@taffyweiss2414 she never wanted a dryer either. She hung the laundry in the sun. Starched, refrigerated, and ironed everything. Laundry day was every day. :-)

@@TheFvtampa Your post brought back fond childhood memories. My grandmother did the very same method of laundry. I loved, loved ironing the damp starched pillowcases for her. Now, most HOA's have restrictive covenants preventing outdoors / clothes line drying. I wonder is that for (vain) aesthetic reasoning, only?

@@taffyweiss2414 My HOA has a restriction preventing outdoor clothes line, but I have a privacy fence and rigged up a temporary clothesline across my patio that the neighbors can't see. It's temporary, so I can put it up or down easily and only as needed. There's something cathartic about hanging out clothes - IMO.

@@diana6842 Yes, I see how it can be. I find it cathartic to turn on my favorite music (no TV) and do house cleaning, uninterrupted. I've been told that I'm weird because I admit, with no apologies, that I love housekeeping.
