FYI BECAUSE KRYSTAL CHANGED MY LIFE WHEN SHE TAUGHT ME THIS LAST YEAR....Anyone that missed that part, if you have a pot without drainage you can use a diamond masonry bit to drill them. I bought one and just use my impact driver. You have to keep the piece submerged in water while you do it or it can crack though! Keep the spot you're drilling wet continuously throughout so submerge or keep stopping and rewetting the dent/hole😂
@emoo234210 ай бұрын
Another tip-if you keep a plant in the nursery pot, you can just pull it out of the cover pot to water it, and/or bottom water it, and put it back. (My favorite method because it’s much easier to repot out of a nursery pot than a cute ceramic or clay pot that you may have to destroy to get the plant out) They also sell hole drill bits, specifically-same concept, too, just able to drill bigger holes. Love it for my succulent arrangements.😄 And ya’ll, get some mesh liners to hold your soil in, too.👌🏾
@emoo23429 ай бұрын
@@9622paige Yes!!! I saw this tip somewhere and was like "That would have been a nice thought before I went and bought a soldering iron"..but the soldering iron was maybe $12 and it's super quick. My parfait cups stand no chance.xD I think I saw somewhere on here that you can use just a screw driver and a hammer to make holes, but I am not that brave and I don't want to break $xx.xx in pots trying to see if I can do it when I already have a drill that costs less.😅

I've stopped going to my local big box stores for plants because I get really genuinely upset when I see all the sad & neglected plants & can't take them all home with me. I go to my local Ace Hardware instead since it's owned by a lovely older couple & the wife, Carol, runs the plant, lawn care, & outdoor sections with an iron fist! The clearance plants are all $1 & they're usually in there because it's the end of their growing season, the environment just isn't right for them, or they've just been there a long time! I've never had a plant with pests or diseases from there. A genuinely great place to go for plants. Carol knows plants better than most anyone & is great at giving you care advice. Also we swap pet pictures & her 2 cats and 1 dog are very cute!

I’m usually dissatisfied with our local Home Depot too, they make soil soup constantly..and the pots around my area are so basic , there’s no pretty cactus pots for my beefs etc Thanks for pushing past your shy limits for us!!! I use my nurseries to soften my anxiety when having a rough day, I’ll force myself out and tour around looking at plants. Doesn’t mean I’ll buy anything but just getting out and surrounding myself in green foliage helps calm my anxiety

Not sure where you live. I’m in western pa. The new ones are coming in slowly. One of my local Lowe’s, everything must be left over from last year. I like to buy the little $5.xx starters. 90% are half dead. The rest are 3 times normal size. But a good deal since they are $5.xx. I left one day last week and the plant truck was making a delivery. I went in the next day and all the dead plants were gone and new ones arrived. If something is not on the clearance rack but still looks half dead don’t be afraid to ask for a discount. That’s what I’ve been doing. Got an ivy last night half off because I asked the plant guy standing there if he could discount it.

if i let myself look at plants when i'm out shopping, i try to go in with a list of plants i've researched that would suit my lighting options and look easy to care for. a few of the plants you named i've killed in the past, but some i've rescued! I try to only buy from a local nursery so they're usually in good shape (and expensive, which also limits what i buy because i don't want to spend too much!) it's the pots that are the most expensive parts of plant parenthood!

The gray small alocasia is 'Melo" also known as Rhino Skin. As dismal as you think your shopping options are, mine are far worse. I am 55 miles away from any big box stores and they are almost always disappointing when I do get to shop them. Please keep your eyes out for a trailing plant with plain green heart-shaped leaves (about 1 to 1.25" across). It's a soft stemmed plant like an impatiens, with alternating leaves. The newest leaves are very small. I saw it at Walmart (hanging basket, Exotic Angel) but there was no ID tag. I'm just struggling to get an ID for it since I've never seen it before (and I've been gardening for many decades). It's fairly plain but I can't stop thinking about it. I really enjoy your videos.
