@flymetothephilippines
Join us as we take a house tour of our new home in Cagayan De Oro, Miami's Oriental, Mindanao Philippines. Our third home in seven months.
No Air conditioning, did we find hell, or is this Paradise found? A property with a view along the Cagayan De Oro River, breezy, and with great views. Community Pool and lots more.
Homes in the Philippines can be a real challenge for a Western Expat. No hot water in the sink, poor water pressure, noise pollution..... did we manage to avoid the most common pitfalls this time?
We discuss our experience looking for a home, the problems with dogs and Roosters, and karaoke neighbors. Short term rental leasing is the rule to follow.
We share an updated budget and we commissioned a survey on Philippines Expats a Facebook group for Expat life to see if anyone has ever found a quiet neighborhood in the Philippines and if so what is their budget.

I live in a Double Gated community. 2 security gates to get in, located in Liloan, Cebu. 25K or $444 per month. 2 story, 3 bedrooms and 3 C/Rs all with showers. I live alone, just moved here. I can see the ocean, Mactan island, and the city lights of Mandaue City from second floor balcony. NO BARKING DOGS OR ROOSTERS ALLOWED. Very quiet subdivision. Cool night breeze.

Dear Chrissy and Rob, I am initially impressed by your KZbin channel. Incredibly professional setup and you are both very professional in front of the camera. It is also interesting with the information from your part of the Philippines as it is usually always otherwise from Manila, Cebu or Dumaguete. What a comfortable and impressive home you have found can almost be completely envied. But now also take time to enjoy it and each other. Best regards from Denmark

I've watched a few of your videos and have enjoyed them. You guys have a good rapport and interact with each other in a manner that doesn't make the viewer uncomfortable. I have a certain affinity with you as I turn 66yo in September and have traveled SE Asia extensively, as a matter of fact, I spent 3 months in CDO on my last trip. I lived 'downtown' and had a pretty good time. The manager (Italian) of the complex and I became good friends. I wished I would have checked out 'uptown'. Perhaps, met you guys. I am not a sex tourist, but the first couple of times I visited the Philippines, I went to the local nightspots and had young girls throwing themselves at me. I'm 188cm tall, blonde haired, blue eyed, and fit for my age. I recall a 18yo girl taking off my condom and telling me she wanted to have my baby. Gawd! Then, her parents and family visiting my condo the next day. Be careful boys... I live on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, so, the beaches in the Philippines aren't especially spectacular to me. I've been to a few high end resorts in the Philippines, but peek around the corner and the beaches are littered with trash. As Australia is conveniently located to SE Asia, I don't have to endure the brutal flights North Americans and Europeans endure. When the noise, pollution, bureaucracy, traffic become intolerable, I can return home from the chaos and refresh. It's the women who interest me. Where else in SE Asia can you find women who speak English fluently, except Malaysia, which is largely Muslim? Plus, Filipinas are naturally beautiful and caring. The bad ones are 'western influenced', and are increasingly becoming fat due to fast foods. Generally, Filipino's have the worst cuisine in SE Asia, but you can adjust your diet easily by getting foodstuffs (fruit and veg) at local markets. Beef and lamb is imported and frightfully expensive. Pork and poultry are delicious. The vegetables and fruit are local , non refrigerated, and delicious. Do not eat farmed seafood, but only ocean caught. I, like most 'western men', am tired of the women in my own country. The average age for women hitting menopause is 51yo. My balls haven't fallen to the ground yet, and I would like sex until they do. After my first couple of trips to the Philippines, I decided to get serious about finding a woman. I abstained from the nightlife, stayed in one Barangay, and made friends. Slowly but surely, the community accepted me and I was introduced to higher quality women. This is the secret to long-term success. Do not be a 'Playboy'. People will notice you and talk about you. Don't drink too much, but if Filipino men invite you to a party and share alcohol with you, DRINK. Be respectful to the family of your Filipina, but understand you are also understand you accordingly require respect. If your Filipinas family asks you for money, that is a red flag. If you are serious about your Filipina, it will be expected that you contribute to the family. But, you must consult your Filipina, understand her family commitments, and draw boundaries. Otherwise, you will be a 'cash cow' and not be respected. Lastly, I had a great relationship with a 38yo Filipina. Her father was an ex Barangay Captain and I am a Godfather to my best Filipino friend Geoff's adorable daughter (cousin). It is so wonderful to be accepted by a Filipino family and be a part of their lives. I', headed back, but my parents are 90&91yo now, and my family comes first. God bless the Philippines.

You guys found a great home!! Especially with no barking dogs. We live part-time between the US and here, across the river from you guys. 1st year there, no dogs and no roosters, then one dog behind us. Now on our return visit this year we have 3 dogs next door. Usually quiet during the day, but on some nights it gets pretty bad. One of our subdivision guards did have a talk with them, they apologized but that was short lived. We are building another house near buy in a new sub- division, hopefully it will be better there.😅😅

Hate to be "that guy" but you did choose to come to the Phils and yes you can find "quiet" but that is NOT the norm. You can either ignore it, enjoy it, or move BUT do not condemn the culture because it is not your "norm". PS Many people grow up around dogs and the dogs barking at night gives them a sense of security, I don't mind an alarm bark or a good morning crow but excessive barking and noisy roosters are signs of no training, and I would speak to them about it (offer to get them a few "no crow" collars).

Two months deposit is nothing...... In January I was looking for a place to live in Queretaro, MX and because I didn't have a local guarantor they were asking for six months deposit, AND a security deposit! 😱 Requirements in Mexico vary from state to state, in the Yucatán it is first and last months rent, same for a security deposit, and a same amount for a "lawyer,' to do the paperwork. So a $500 USD per month place ends up costing $2,000 before you even move in. 🙄 No KZbin channels covering Mexico mentioned any of this, only how "cheap," things were. Please do keep giving details.

They want to know who your wife is how connected she is; if you have a house, properties etc. They want to see if you already invested too much and cant just pick up and leave - then they will show you a number on the phone - that's how much to pay on top of the normal fee. Solution: go different offices in different provinces so the don't know you.

Probably rent, it only takes one bad neighbor, to make it not worth living in a particular place in the Philippines

You could just get a townhouse somewhere near Nashville TN for the same price with all amenities next to all the state parks, forests, lakes and rivers, walkable neighborhood no dogs or rooster nonsense, plenty of parking and wide straight roads no traffic. The sooner you start the process getting Chrissys visa the sooner you can get away from all the riffraff. All these Philippino riffraff will wear you down you might struggle and hold on for a year or three but it will wear you down eventually.

@@nadiajurasek186 Nashville is in Tennessy there are many lakes and rivers to swim and fish - FREE public access and no garbage. FOREST with fresh cool air to breath. There are also Smokey Mountains there - one of the most beautiful place on earth - FREE and easy access too many roads to go by car and hiking trails with cabins and campsites to rest. There are black bears, bobcats and many many dear in the woods too. And TN has FOUR SEASONS you never get tired as seasons change. Speaking of Texas - Texas has beach on Gulf coast side but yes its a little too far and humid weather too. But you can swim in the pool. Texas is not bad too.

I am happy for you guys, but I would not quite say jackpot because, will Mr. California sell? & For a not jokingly overpriced amount?
@linkinemerson8620
@linkinemerson8620 7 ай бұрын
Because I want to own long-term. Not rent. & if Mr. California can own land & build houses to rent, then the Philippines will either allow me to own the land & house I buy or rent, or I won't move to the Philippines. I'm sick of deals only for the ultra rich. I flat out refuse to not own all parts of my property, period.

Yes I understand however it only takes one bad neighbor to upset the equilibrium- so I prefer to rent and remain free to vote with my feet

Sorry to rant. But for my own personal goals I just hate how outside investments get greenlit, but when I search online it says that no foreigner can legally own. The land a home is on & must be rented by a local citizen. But through loopholes, edits specifically for the richest to gobble up good sites & then never sell them, or through shady side deals either way if that's how it works then I simply don't wish to be a renter. Vietnam has an issue with houses starting at 500k US despite cost of living being 75% cheaper, all due to massive corruption & a couple companies (black rock etc) owning essentially all quality land. & in Thailand the hoops for foreigners actually owning property seems even worse, while still offering loopholes for those few elites.

@@FlyMeToThePhilippines Well that was a great point. I just didn't know fighting dogs & roosters was so common that they are everywhere like that. & yea a really good point not buying & being stuck in 1 spot. With my budget I could do well right now, but its about 1900 max monthly once I get there so I would have some trimming to do in terms of luxuries. Not having a monthly rent cost would be really big so that is what I was stuck on. & also if the economy turned so that 1900 would no longer get me some of the better options & reduce me down ladder is a long-term worry. I also did not consider needing a gated community or security, but I am glad I subbed to get more advice & topics I may not think of while planning this out. I dont have any social media & although I plan on making a couple in the future as much as I dislike it here I know its the best way to meet someone there or keep in touch with the expat communities there, for now I just have email or US phone. Would you be able to share an email of the California owner by chance? I plan on meeting a real estate agent in April & going over my options, but I would be fine with paying an HOA or monthly cost for the security & expenses to pay my share, but if I was able to find a neighborhood like that with those rules, with the right neighbors perhaps the rules could finally be enforced. I really dont know Im just tossing out ideas. Because I have 1 dog which I want to move with, but he is very friendly & even while other dogs bark he doesnt which I lucked out on a good trait in a dog, but he does not bark all day or tear things up. Im just curious if I could buy a property if there are plot left & work with the builders myself & possibly choose some features, like not having a urinal or something lol. Not that its a deal breaker haha.
