There are some things aspects that are promising, however, there are several that are not. It is also important that board members and Mr. Miles understands individual schools, challenges, the teachers, administration, and student body. The ARE NOT all the same. It is hard enough to maintain teachers as it is, and temporarily filling large empty spots with unlicensed/certified teachers is not filling positions with qualified and dedicated teachers. Right now, RETENTION should be a priority, or the next year could result in greater than 1000 empty slots. Issues at some High schools. 1. Certain students who disrupt classes by walking into a class and speaking to friends without permission, then disrespect the teacher, refuse to follow orders to vacate, and threaten teachers (state violation) causing a learning disruption. When referred to the office, they continue the same activities and disruptions without care. I AGREE with the need for such students to be removed, as public school paid for by taxpayers is not a parents personal free day care center for their children or young adults. A code must be followed. SO discipline and finding the cause of the issue is needed and no allowance for continued disruption. They need to understand the FACTs of their actions but be guided with a positive outlook back. HOWEVER. 2. The library IS NOT the place to send them. The library has an important function in schools and so to, the librarians. Placing them in the library disrupts its purpose. Another separate place needs to be created. If students are going to be prepared for higher education, they need to constant skill of researching material, and widening their wisdom. Digital media is not the solution, as it creates a disconnect from the written page, the author, as well as thought patterns. Librarians guide students and aid them in this. As a Buddhist wisdom and compassion is an important factor in my life. Wisdom gaining from learning from materials as well as experience. Transforming negative events and feelings into positive, accepting them as a precious learning experience. The library was a refuge for me as a student. I had learning difficulties at first, but when I had choice in materials, i freely dove into learning as much as I could in material, on my own, at a much higher level. My high school in NJ reached a grade A status. We were required to, twice a year go to our library and librarians, be giving an assignment to collect books and material on topics and present them to them. It gave us strong research abilities. DO NOT GET RID OF THE LIBRARIANS OR LIBRARIES ON OUR TAX DOLLARS. 3. TEACHER SUPPORT! These evaluations give me concern. I have taught programs in Veterinarian Technical education. As well as supervised and gave OSHA training programs to fit compliance regulations. When evaluating a teacher, the person doing so needs to have highly sufficient if not equal education background and experience. If we see favoritism, this will backfire on the new board and Mr. Miles. One thing is certain. Oversight, and evaluations cannot INTERRUPT classes, nor strain teachers once a week. No sir. Any true educator at higher levels knows this causes severe disruption and lower esteem. a once per period at correct times yes. And by those who are qualified and non-biased, as teacher retention will be a problem. History teaches you that. Right now the board and Mr. Miles, is being evaluated. It is important they do the following above all else. 1. Make certain teachers and staff are supported fairly without the creation of stress in any form that is not needed. 2. Safety for the schools is adhered too and taken extremely seriously. OPEN CLASSROOM DOORS * IS NOT SAFE * AND ASKING FOR SERIOUS ISSUES & SAFTY CONCERNS, AS WELL AS DISRUPTIVE STUDENTS IN HIGHSCHOOLS TO FREELY CONTINUE TO WALK IN AND DISREPECT TEACHERS AND THE OTHER CLASSROOMS. IT CAN NOT BE ALLOWED. To Even do so with past events and reports by educators, shows a clear neglect of duties and logically evaluation for so called policies. Summary: Teachers must be greatly supported as the core of the system. Students can not disrupt classes or disrespect teachers, staff, adults at any grade level. However, they firmly need to be guided back with a positive hopefully outlook for their future, as they are the hope of our state and nation. Libraries must remain present and utilized correctly, not as a place for handling the disruptive behavior, as it gives a negative feel to the purpose of the space, and the sanctuary or wisdom it is. Evaluations must be performed by equal qualified people properly with positive teach building reflection, not negative and in a manner that disrespects teacher and staff, or that evaluator must be removed. Strain on teachers will result in a great loss of them in the future and a quickly increasing unfilled positions. Discissions must involve oversight and the unions. One thing that is an issue is the rise of dictatorship ideals and authoritarism that the major will not support. The student's new strong guidance, to be taught to be serious and follow instruction, have respect, and skills they need for their future. Houston is a city with so many opportunities for them, and it need to be made clear to them.
