And what about the University of Houston! No discussion about the brilliant faculty and multiple sites beyond the Central Campus! Houston is also one of the few cities with a resident Symphony Orchestra, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera and The Alley Theater, among other performing arts organizations.

What can the city of Houston (and the surrounding cities in the greater Houston area) do to reduce the property tax? Property tax is ridiculous. Property tax in the greater Houston area is between 3% to 4% of the appraised home value. Family moving from a state that collect state income tax pays 2 to 3 times more tax than they paid in their previous state. This is how it works - State with personal income tax collects tax on the income they earn. Property tax in those states is usually around or less than 1% of the appraised home value. Most of the homeowners buys home that are 3 to 4 times their annual household salary. When you compare the property tax in the greater Houston area on the appraised home value to that of the state income tax in their previous state, homeowners in greater Houston area pay 3 times higher in tax than the tax they paid on their combined income tax and property tax on the state that they lived earlier.

I think Houston has much potential to improve and grow over time, but there seem to be at least two long standing issues that the city still hasn’t solved: 1.) More and better flood infrastructure. Without more ways to divert away water, various parts of the city and county remain in danger from flooding. Property damage and loss will continue to plague Houstonians until this is much more thoroughly solved. 2.) Crime. Basic law and order is absolutely critical to maintain society. This cannot be emphasized enough. It’s a multi factor problem to solve, but it can be done. Doing so requires assessing the amount of police needed, laws regarding defense of self and property, and also the basic values and morality behind all these things.

No. Houston needs mass transit and a much better public transport system to develop into a world class city like New York or Chicago.

Houston has flood infrastructure. The problem is that greedy developers built homes in the flood plains of that infrastructure. Duh...those houses flood! Never should have been allowed. Dumb consumers rolled the dice on cheaper lots and lost.

Please.... FIX the roads around the Medical Center. There are holes and bumps. When they fix, they just drop the asphalt just like what they did in the y road by Target by Main and Old Spanish trail. Been driving in this ugly road for years and years.
@swpowell1226
@swpowell1226 Жыл бұрын
The roads are a disgrace. If you want to damage your vehicle drive down Westheimer, TC Jester, Richmond, etc. The government can't even put in a first class rail/transit system. All they want to do is add more and more buses that have to compete with the rest of traffic. They ignore what people have voted for and approved and add something else. Tax dollars for roads and transit are vanishing into a black home somewhere. A new mayor is needed to hopefully get things back on track.

Houston has passed Chicago and population. what the problem is is your lack of adequate zoning laws have caused a lot of loss of wetlands. also you area wasn’t meant for the population as large. you guys are having huge issues about water. Furthermore you guys really have to spend money on light rail in public transit you’re focuses too much on cars

I’m sorry, but without proper public transportation, all of these great things won’t work properly and won’t be a world class city, not even a train from the major airports to the DT, hate to say it, I live in Houston, but it is what it is and is not changing, they will invest 10billions on expanding freeways, instead of proper public transportation 😢
