I LOVE Houston's Freeways. Whenever they reconstruct the 285/400 interchange here in Atlanta, they really need to look to Houston to know what to do with an interchange. My favorite interchange in Houston is 290 at the Sam Houston Tollway. A true work of art

Very good video Jim, well done. Your productions get better and better every time. KUDOS.

It's not that hard, just remember, all the ramps connect to something and if you mess up you can turn around at the next exit :) Personally I think these interchanges are works of art. The interchanged you referenced is really quite simple and there are many like it across the country, this one in particular is higher, bigger and more spread out than most but it's the same 4-level directional design that first showed up in Los Angeles in early 1950's.

Houston is gorgeous, nowadays many more roads and interchanges are being built.

I lived in Houston for a month. As a Floridian, I was really amazed by the HUGE stacks, the ongoing construction, and how wide I-10 is going to be. But I agree with aswchris, concrete highways are not really aesthetic. Not even the new ones.

To DanRyan55 the two most stressful freeways I've driven in this country were both in LA, the 101 Hollywood Freeway & Ventura Freeway and the 405 San Diego Freeway from Century City all the way down to the 110 in south central. Both are 10-12 lane freeways, but are always packed even during the middle of the day and on weekends, LA doesn't have enough freeway lane miles/people compared to other cities despite how many freeways they have and how wide they are

All these interchanges are giving me a craving for spaghetti (for obvious reasons), and the I-10/I-610 interchange looks even more badass since the Crosby Freeway was extended. ;-)

Fantastic clip! The DFW metro has even more stacks, like 19 or something in that range. Those Houston concrete freeways with their frontage roads are not very aesthetic though...

Jim, I am afraid that the footage at 1:25 is not the I-10 with US-59/US-90 as you show, but the I-45 with US-59. See the video "Houston,TX US59 Interchanges Stack City Part 2" from ScrewdUPClickV2 (2:40) for a comparison. Anyway, congratulations for your videos! Here you have a fan.

The freeways in the south for the most part are much newer, wider and more modern looking with the Springfield Interchange & Wilson bridge being the lone exceptions for the DC area. As for speeds, the south is faster but only because there is more congestion in the DC area, I've seen my share of crazy drivers up there.
@Freewayjim15 жыл бұрын

I think you missed I-5 in Orange County, CA, that's pretty big from what I understand. I-85 & I-285 SW of Atlanta is 16 lanes for a few miles (I have a couple videos of it) From what I have heard that stretch of I-10 is 20 lanes, I have not seen it since it was finished.

you missed two very very important parts of the area. the 610 east loop by the refineries and just 59 from down town to beltway 8. those are two very very nice spots. also the north houston i 45 stretch from the woodlands and the i 45 to galveston. hopefully ill get them and post them on here. good videos! and it wouldve been great if you filmed the baytown bridge.

You should come back to Houston and film the changes that have been made, including the Katy Freeway & the new Galveston Causeway. They are working on the interchange with I-45 and the NASA Parkway (also known as NASA Road 1), but so far most of the other road projects are complete in the Houston area... For now...

OH MY goodness! Who was the ginus who came up with the idea At 3:18-3:33? Could they of made it any more complex? I am still trying to figure out what road went with what road. I couldn't imagine trying to exicute this at speed limit plus checking mirors plus changeing lanes plus reading signs and on top of it all you had a dam camera running.

It is done. The entire Katy Freeway is complete with the HOV. The toll lanes, though physically there, are still being used as additional HOV lanes, officials with HCTRA & TxDOT are still trying to decide on pricing, whether or not they will use "congestion pricing", and how to charge only single-occupancy vehicles without charging those who are carpooling...

Texas, we need to take a lesson from Missouri, and start posting mile markers every 0.2 miles, five per mile on interstates. Personally I would request congress to allow mile markers to be posted every tenth mile or two-tenth mile on interstates. If it were legal, I would spray paint numbers on the lamp posts every tenth mile for a mile stretch of I-10 in my city (El Paso)
